Annamarie, except for the bridge at 7:02 (off center), you did splendidly at navigating your boat. I speak bluntly, and must say that after watching hundreds of narrowboat videos, it was obvious that the men were better captains, both at controlling the boats and handling the locks. But your progress has convinced me that there is no reason the ladies can't move right up to their level of competence. Plus, you are a pleasure to follow with your cheerful disposition and infectious enthusiasm. Keep up the good work!

exactly two years ago, friends and my wife and I did this same trip, both ways.....your gentle approach and touches on the scenery and quietness that is the Llangollen was a great reminder of our trip...thanks for this...really made my sunday morning....have fun

See you went past my old school "Ellesmere College" . 8 years of sheer hell on earth !!. Grew up in Ellesmere, a lovely town. You must have also gone past my old house "Frankton Manor" Just up from the Narrowboat pub. Happy days.

@@TheNarrowboatExperience If you are still there, Pete Sandwich Bar in the square is amazing. Its Pete Vermeulens, Hell of a character and well known in Ellesmere. Also has a delicatessen next door, could spend a small fortune in there !!. If you are travelling back. Moor up at Mad Jack Myttons Restaurant at Hindford. Walk into Whittington to see the Castle. Also two good pubs there, Ye Old Boot Inn (my dads old local) and The White Lion. (was there Sunday! ) Happy days, Adrian

The Narrowboat Experience Yep cats cop attitudes like that. Had 2 brothers many moons ago for almost 9 years so I have personal experience! One had a canine personality so much would even greet me at the door and faithfully follow me around and listen to me. That was Darth, all black naturally. The other was completely opposite named him Skitsy short for Schizophrenic! 🤣 Would totally ignore me be gone for days and then return at his leisure throwing major attitude at me besides mini snit fits! Too funny. Have been mostly dog person ever since...😁👍🤣

Ellesmere is a very friendly place Anna,hope you found some lol,hope you liked our little town,Tescos,Cafes and Market,i have lived here for 40yrs and love it,love watching your vlogs you are such a laugh,you would cheer anybody up i think lol.x

Ellesmere Basin, once had to do a 3 point turn at the end of it with a 10 berther on mi bill as everyone else had bailed out to the pub. No bumps or bashing went like a dream!!!!

Nice one SVA... (Sapphire, Vixen, Anna)....,you are a credit to the canal. Second solo, and a relaxed smile and aura about you. A natural. Love the fact your wearing your Ellesmere market hat, nice touch. Highly recommend The Boathouse, on the mereside, about half a mile outside of town, passed the Red Lion. Cracking brew in there and coffee, and a breakfast to die for......OMG, how quickly can I get back from the Coventry canal, a Boathouse brekky.....umm umm! Hope alls well. xx

That was lovely and the two lambs head butting each other were so cute. I would love to have the confidence to cruise single handed but I know I would panic at the locks and swing bridges. We are looking at bigger boats online now but my husband is not really keen. I have no idea why because I love it on the canals but because I’m so apprehensive about travelling alone I’m considering a campervan. That would give m3 the freedom I want and I would be confident travelling alone. However, videos have shown me that single handed life aboard could be a possibility if I was a little more confident. Thanks.

How can you be lonely with all those friends around you. When I was on The Norfolk Brds feeding the swans Late at night had a marvellous conversation lol with a couple of swans sharing my dinner. If that were me I would spend a lot of time (evening) sketching ,learning more tunes on my harmonica, listening to horror stories iPad. Barbecues etc etc.

As for the pepper spray I say get some bear spray. I met a nice lady from Wales and she said she carried a small tube of bear spray to keep the bears away I guess it worked as she had never met a bear in Wales. lol

I have a lot of fond memories of Ellesmere :) When I was in my late teens/early 20's I lived in Abermule between Newtown and Welshpool, we would frequently drive up to ellesmere to canoe. It is a beautiful place, especially in the summer.

Well done Anna 😊 Now I'm on my own, and prefer it, however I do go to the shop just to talk to people sometimes (grin). Everyone seems to have black cats. My Neighbour's now got 2 and recently started letting them out. They tease the birds and the birds tease them lol. Sit high up in the tree until the cats go out front, come and have a feed then fly off when they see them again. If you like have a look at my recent video of the Goldfinches feeding.

After careful review, the vessel seems to still be afloat, and all cats still aboard. No animals appear to have been harmed. Hopefully no ice cream melted. Never saw anyone named David lurking about. IS it true he is considering renaming his boat 'The Importance of Impotence'??? Possibly just a silly rumor. Forget I mentioned it. Probably does not want to discuss it . . . So nobody say anything!

I really should get a second centre line! It is great going solo: just you and the landscape. I met a long narrowboat on a tight bend once and I thought I was lucky to be on the inside of the bend, but no: the shallowness threw my bow hard over so we missed each other but both ended up in the outside bends bank:-)

@@TheNarrowboatExperience Yes with just one it often feels like driving a coach and horses with all the wrist / arm action on the rope. And then the times you are on approach to moor and realise it is still set the wrong side:-)

Do your cats stay pretty close by when they are off the boat? I would be so afraid of losing them. You can definitely tell it is spring with the tulips and the tree in bloom...as well you mentioned the lambs. I do not think I could drive (is that the proper word) such a long boat. You can be shown how to do it.... You can have someone there to watch you..... BUT till you do it yourself by yourself you don’t get the experience and comfort of doing it. As you say you love it and are gaining the confidence to do it without thinking. Thinking the 20 times and wondering which way should it be done! If nothing gets damaged or anyone hurt it has given you the experience to do it again.. Amacf

As a Ellesmerian i would never call the canal the Llangollen Canal from my town to Ellesmere Port yes that town on the Cheshire coast is named after our little Shropshire town linked by the Shropshire Union Canal if you are visiting our Market Town by boat the weeks market is on a Tuesday and as well as Tesco's there are many family run Pubs and shops and also a large laundrette.

Used to do a bit of boating on my own in my early years found having a glass of golden liquid often made up for lack of company,carry some pepper spray in your pocket X
