For this soap, I used 100% refined olive oil for my base oil to make what’s called a castile soap. I also added essential oils and kaolin clay. Lather tests at the end.
Thank you so much for watching, liking, & subscribing! :)

DISCLAIMER: I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials for beginners. These videos are intended for those who already have an understanding of cold process soap making. Cold process soapmaking has many variables and involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear. While I hope you find watching my videos helpful or entertaining, so many variables go into making soap and even the smallest change can greatly affect the results; therefore, I am not liable or responsible for your results if you try any of the methods or techniques that I use in my videos.

Great video 👍 When I make 100% olive oil soaps, I add rosemary oleoresin and citric acid, which are natural preservatives and prevent rancidity (unfortunately, pure olive oil soaps get rancid, with time). Anyway, my favorite recipe for body soap, which is also a base for most all my body soaps, is made with 75% olive, 20% coconut and 5% castor oil. It needs no preservatives, because castor and coconut oil don't get rancid, so the soap doesn't, and increase lather a lot; soap makers know that lather has nothing to do with the quality of a soap, anyway it's pleasurable, so it's fine to add it. I tried also 95% olive and 5% castor oils, and still the soap didn't get rancid with time; anyway, I liked it less than the previous one, it felt a little bit less delicate on the skin, and less hydrating too. Still a good quality soap, anyway.

Hi Dott. Lupus, almond oils also get rancid, right? And what is the recipe (percentages) for your coconut wit olive oil soap? (It will my first attempt to make soap) I have 200ml of coconut denatured, but it are solid at room temperature, can use with one liter of olive oil (~15% coconut oil) with lavander oleoresin? (for this quantities, how much lye (solid 98%) have to use? ) I have dry and sensitive skin and I wash my hands many times a day.. And what about the colorants types can be used to get some colorful stripes/spots like in the swirled soap's?

So it's olive oil that gets rancid, not coconut oil? I think now i know what happened with my soap.

I've been using pure beef tallow soap made with tap water for the past few months. Even less lather than your castile soap, but it cleans well and is gentle on skin. My second ever soap batch is currently curing, and is also all tallow, but has distilled water and sodium citrate so I'm hopeful it'll lather better.

I had my last child BORN with skin so dry and sensitive that it literally cracked and BLED at every bend and joint. She could only be bathed with baby oil, but my pediatrician suggested at 4 months that I could attempt Castile soap once a week. Having worked with horses, where Castile soap can commonly be found, I stopped by a tack store and snagged a bar asap. Almost had a heart attack at the price. 12$/bar?! Thus began my journey into soap making...as with everything else with my children EVERYTHING had to be complicated! My eldest couldn't tolerate ANY food additives without losing her mind. So homemade everything became "normal" and "mandatory" around our house. Freshie and pop were banned, along with chocolate and all artificial colours. Convincing grandparents that "treats" were NOT, treats, was the hardest part. As the allergists said, " the more they're exposed to now, the sooner the migraines will setin, and the more severe they'll be when they do. So far, it's my eldest that's been suffering the longest. Since she was 11. Her grandparents just couldn't grasp that her body couldn't cope with the chemicals of the food dyes. And so, consistently "treated" her to the exact things her "mean" old mother wouldn't let her have. Until the day her grandfather brought her home and I noticed she was again "high". Told her to come here, looked at her eyes, major telltale with her, her pupils would dilate, every time, they were.. .so I told her to run in and grab her jammies, poppa and grandma wanted her to have a sleep over... so off she went, grandfather is having conniption "we can't, we're going to a dance!" "I've warned you before, now YOU get to deal with it." "But.. But. ." "Should have thought of that first. THIS TIME, you don't get to drop her off for her mother to deal with. Have fun..." the next AFTERNOON, he brings her home, looking like he's gone through 30 round with an entire class of kindergarten students, "I see what you mean... we haven't had ANY sleep at ALL. It won't happen again." "Thankyou. I'm sorry it had to come to that. More sorry that its moved HER that much closer to her migraine threshold, but now that you're not going to be giving her any more of the garbage, perhaps it'll work out to balance the scales. "

I’ve made Castile soap before too. I’m actually using a bar that’s aged two years. I find Castile to be more cleansing and stripping than other bars I’ve made. My skin is all about the moisture! As a side note, who are the three thumbs down?? I don’t get that at all. Your videos are so beautiful, Holly, and the music you accompany them with is so soothing. If they don’t like soap making, why are they watching??
