Why did you cut Barbora's speech? I understand that it was long but it's very important part of Czech history and it made Navrátilová cry. For people who haven't seen the speech, Barbora talked about November 17 1989 (because is todays date), when Velvet revolution occured. Czechoslovakian people went on the streets to protest against communistic regime. The result was finaly getting out of the regime and gaining democracy. Martina emigrated to USA because of communism but the love for her country remained. She got really emotional and Katka and Bára also cried. The revolution is the reason why they can play freely and I can write this comment. I am really proud of them. Very beautiful. Even our commentator got emotional and said that he didn't expect it and it caught him of guard, 😂❤️

Shame on you WTA for cutting off Barbora Krejcikova speech part where she talks about the Velvet Revolution anniversary, against the totalitarian communist regime in the former Czechoslovakia. In China, another totalitarian communist regimen, Peng Shuai is still missing after making sexual assault accusations against a former high ranking official in the Chinese Communist Party (ChCP)

This is the first time I have watched so much doubles tennis and thoroughly enjoyed it. Congrats to the finalists. Siniakova and krejcikova you did not cease to amaze me with your style of play. Kréjcikova won hands down the "Pronounce 'Guadalajara'" contest. :D :D :D By the way, czech tactic was simple but effective: when hitting to the baseline, aim at Hsieh; when hitting to the net player, aim at Mertens. Otherwise, go back to the basics: it's impossible to pass Siniakova at the net except with a lob, and then Krejcikova turns the lob into a vicious shot from the baseline. Tough nut to crack, these ladies. Congrats!

so glad that doubles was truly spotlighted at this event. Players should note that doubles does improve your singles (i.e. Barbora Krejcikova # wta singles #3 wta doubles )

Hsieh needs a better partner for doubles. She is just doing most of the work. Her pairing with Barbora Strycova was a way better partnership than with Mertens.

100% agree with you. Hsieh was actually better on the baseline working with Strycova. But it's been reported on foreign media that Hsieh and Mertens will not be continuing their partnership next year. Mertens is looking to partner with Kudermetova instead. The article also said Mertens decided not to continue because "Hsieh is 35 and lacks future prospects, along with her lack of power and instability in performance". I mean, the audacity??? Hsieh literally carried her to the Wimbledon and Indian Wells title.

yup I agree, apparently shieh’s age, unclear future perspectives and the loss of the masters final made Mertens think differently about their partnerships. Too bad, I didn’t think they were a bad team.

@@jelle1132 Quite harsh comments considering how much Hsieh had carried Mertens to win the titles. She said Hsieh lacked power as well, which i disagree. Hsieh is great both at the baseline and at the net, but she loses out on her weaker serve. Mertens usually does nothing when she's at the net. She scores a lot of points with good serves, but she also makes too many double faults. To be good at doubles, both net and baseline skills are equally important. I wonder who Hsieh will look for her next doubles partner.

@@cc4454 yeah quite harsh exactly…I think Hsieh has so much more to offer than a random east-european hard hitting girl. I heard in newspapers that Mertens was quite upset about losing the masters final and sort of held Hsieh responsable for it. I think they just faced 2 opponents who were better that day.

@@cc4454 in the end I do think Mertens is a skilled doubles player regarding her track record, grand slam titles with different partners, number 1, she is agile and quick and does have good strokes with a good serve as you said…but totally disagree on ditching Hsieh for Kudermetova
