About Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks:
New England’s best bluefin tuna fishermen venture south to North Carolina’s treacherous fishing grounds, the Outer Banks, where they will battle the local fleet for the ocean’s most lucrative prize. A single giant bluefin can be worth more than $20,000 but the dangerous waters, small quota and explosive rivalries make North Carolina's Outer Banks, nicknamed “The Graveyard of the Atlantic”, the most challenging place in the world to catch these elusive fish.

So if y’all didn’t know, This boat (Waste Knot) definitely sunk fairly quickly. It hit something and the rutters went up through the hull causing severe damage and very large holes. It washed up on shore with the bridge ripped off and the boat basically gutted. You can find pictures online. The boat builder Ritchie Howell purchased the remains of the boat and resurrected it. It now is chartering out of NC as the charter boat Drifter. You should see the before and after pics. Incredible.

There really are so many things--like bongs and other materials these days that you CAN cram into a leaking space, not to mention the number one reason boats go down--do you, or do even these "pros" know what that cause/causes are and how to easily prevent it from happening? Sure, great to show p and save people, better to prevent the threat to the people and the loss of the boat and all the gear.

That boat was probably under water within 5 minutes but with how tall it is and how short the vessel is once it takes a certain amount of water it’s an extremely high risk that it will capsize it’s not a fun experience when you feel the boat thrash side to side when giving it power cuz of the water weight and then all of a sudden a hatch lid just starts to float even though it doesn’t seem too extreme here on video it’s terrifying and very unsafe some things just can’t be explained unless you’ve been there before

Not sure what happened cause it don’t show it but that boat would not have sunk with the proper training. Been on sportfish boat for years and we do flooding drills twice a month to stop water intruding the hull. Anything you can slow it down with helps. That includes blankets, pillows, seat cushions, and ever plastic wrap!! If you have large bilge pumps to keep water pumping out all you have to do is slow the water intake. Proper training is the key factor.

@mkultra8244
@mkultra8244 3 жыл бұрын
Not always how it works you have to understand that once you take on a certain amount of water the boat is at a point where it could easily decide to capsize especially with all the weight up top also that boat was probably under water 5-10 minutes afterwards but in the ocean you never know the nearest person could be 15 minutes away or way more and just because it doesn’t look that far gone there could be water in places that completely disable power and steering like in this case better to ditch it save everyone and let the insurance company do it’s thing rather than try to salvage it and risk riding up in that bridge and all of a sudden you’re flipped 20 feet under water without warning and it’s sinking on top of you

Never seen a capt just give up. If its taking water then you can usually slow it down. That boat had a long way before it sank and it will let you know long before the water was even an issue. Seemed like dude was resigned to just collecting the insurance.
@davedavids9619
@davedavids9619 2 жыл бұрын
@ Michael Teeple, if the water is coming in faster than that you can get it out the end result is clear. Trying to save the boat is nice, but saving your life is more important. Unless someone has a pump abandoning ship on time is the only correct action. The only incorrect thing in this video was some lunatic who decided to go pray on the radio when there was an active SAR case going on. When there is a SAR case going on.....STAY OFF THE RADIOS if you have nothing to contribute.
