When impressive functionality, perfect readability and technological innovation come together, the result is versatile and robust timepiece such as the U50 HYDRO - realised in a comfortably wearable size of 41 mm diameter!
One of the outstanding features of the U50 HYDRO is concealed inside the diving watch, meaning that its incredible effect becomes most evident under water: HYDRO Technology. The benefits never fail to impress experienced users: reflection-free underwater readability from any angle, absolute freedom from fogging and - thanks to the special oil filling - water-resistant and pressure-resistant up to a diving depth of 5,000 m (=500 bar).
The watch focusses on a striking design with a display that concentrates on the essentials. It owes its outstanding suitability for everyday use to high-quality features with special materials, which ensure that the U50 HYDRO can withstand even the most adverse conditions. The case and crown are thus made of high-strength seawater-resistant German Submarine Steel. It is characterised by its extreme strength and exceptional non-magnetic properties. Another advantage that stands out for connoisseurs is its outstanding resistance to seawater. As a result, we have
designed the rotating bezel to be captive in the case. Thanks to the use of TEGIMENT Technology to harden the surface, it can also easily
withstand high external stresses. The result: exceptional scratch resistance. The positioning of the crown at 4 o’clock also deserves special attention. This prevents pressure on the back of the hand - even during physically demanding activities.
Due to the aforementioned oil filling, this timepiece must be a quartz watch, as the oscillation of the balance in a mechanical watch would be unable to overcome the high damping resistance of a liquid medium. Nevertheless, watch lovers needn’t forgo the reliability typical of SINN - the long-lasting lithium battery used ensures reliable function at temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C. The battery also has an exceptionally long service life. The movement’s integrated EOL (end of life) function prevents the watch from stopping suddenly.
Whether for professional use or to cope with the demands of diving, the U50 HYDRO is perfect for such challenges - as has also been confirmed by independent classification company DNV. On our behalf, it tests and certifies pressure resistance to a diving depth of 5000 m (= 500 bar) and temperature resistance and functionality in accordance with the European diving device standards.

The U-50 is the one I have because of the size and versatility. I can wear it diving or with a suit and tie. The ridiculously good legibility underwater makes these the best dive/sports watch money can buy imo.

@@ClickSpringReview I have the black bezel because the bezel is more visible especially in the water. I have compared while snorkeling both the U50 bs and the U50 hydro. Both are great but the Hydro you can still see on extreme angles. It's amazing.

If the UX hydro was sub 2k with the Ronda I’d be more inclined to be ok with it but at that price…. Not so much. Imagine if seiko started regulating the NH35 variants and got it to perform as well as the 8L35 and then started sticking it into their marine master 300’s but still charged the same, the outrage would be huge and nobody would buy one! That’s pretty much the ETA/Ronda debate in my eyes. Bloody good looking watch though 👌
@ClickSpringReview

Yeah it's true and its a tough call, the best thing is if Sinn never told us its a Ronda movement we would all be happy as there is no way to check but they did lol
@drmanhattan225
@drmanhattan225 4 ай бұрын
I've had a few 8L35's and out of the box they all performed horrendously. The Rhonda will perform better than even the most tightly regulated 8L35, so for me it's still a good draw even with a non-COSC rated movement. Sinn spent over a year working on regulating it, so all things considered it's still a fantastic package, which is why they can still sell it for what they do.
@swanney75
@swanney75 4 ай бұрын
My point was the Ronda is £20 the ETA 10x more so how do people feel about spending so much money on a watch that has the same movement as a Timefactors PRS-10 which costs £195! Spend about £50 on some silicone oil and you could make your own “waterproof” watch mil spec watch 😂
@ClickSpringReview
@ClickSpringReview 4 ай бұрын
The Tag Heuer Aquaracer Pro 200 costs over £2.6k and that has a £45 movement in the back, Unfortunately ETA won't supply Sinn new models with there COSC spec movements and no body else makes them say apart for Seiko's 9F movement, Yes you can fill a PRS10 with but you won't get any extra water resistance out of it in fact it maybe less due to the pressure on the movement as it doesn't have a diagram
@andal7404
@andal7404 4 ай бұрын
Sinn say they use the quartz movement as that is the only way to get the requisite torque to move the hands through the oil. The problem is that Ressence make an oil filled watch and use an automatic movement, so the torque argument is seemingly disingenuous. The idea that Sinn cannot use an ETA automatic movement, as they cannot get one, does not stop them from using Sellita movements, as they already do so on most of the automatic models.

As an owner U50 Hydro SDR I must admit the first week was tough, not only because of disparaging remarks about Ronda and $30 movement, but confirmation from Sinn factory that they do not "improve/modify" stock this Ronda movement. By second week (and it's only +2 seconds from NIST Atomic time) I no longer mind about the cheap movement; I am just enjoying it, and using it to set time for all my other Sinn's.

Great review as always Barry, i like the look of the new U50 Hydro, and the way they managed to ultimately shrink the UX while maintaining the clean look of the dial, but I can't get past the Ronda movement. They put all the effort and engineering into these wonderful timepieces to then stick a sub 20 dollar movement into it. I’m also suprised it’s just €90 cheaper than the base model UX.

How likely is the bubble to happen in a UX? I would be wearing the watch almost continuously only taking it off to wear a dressier watch on occasion and then it would be inside 22-23 degrees C. I live on the US Mex border where it will be 40 degrees C frequently if that matters. I think it’s the perfect watch for me but the bubble would drive me nuts.

I've not seen one on my UX at all, my old 90s Hydro it would only happen when it gets really cold and once on your wrist it would disappear. Sinn about 10 years ago redesigned the diaphragm so it shouldn't be a problem any more

Right now, more interested in the U50 hydro than the UX. I'm in the US, so maybe the situation is different in Europe, the fully tegimented version of the UX was a limited release so you can't just go and get one of those anymore. The U50 Hydro, meanwhile, has all variations available for pre-order right now so you can get any color in any case hardness. Also, 6.75 inch wrist here, so while I can wear a 45 mm watch I would rather do a 41. I prefer the more sterile dials, so GSG branding doesn't make a difference to me.

I know sir thats why they use quartz for these watches but it is possible to use an auto movement if you only allow oil to the dial side like Ressence do.
