In the heart of the Indian Ocean, a centuries-old Chinese diaspora community has endured through the ages to keep their traditions alive. Shifting tides have caused their numbers to swell and ebb, but the dedicated focus of community elders has helped preserve their most time-tested customs.
CGTN Africa visited the historic Chinatown in the capital Port Louis on the eve of Chinese New Year, when the community's distinct culture is at its most prominent, to learn more about the challenges it has faced in its quest for cultural preservation.
