This is a round 5 game from the 2015 Sinquefield Cup between Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria, and Fabiano Caruana of the United States. The Sinquefield Cup is held at the Saint Louis Chess Club and Scholastic Center in Missouri, USA. This tournament acts as the 2nd of three tournaments of the Grand Chess Tour. This round 5 game features a Ruy Lopez, Berlin with 4. d3. Topalov obtains an ideal pawn center, and Caruana looks to break it down by both indirect and direct means. A pawn transformation gives Topalov a strong pawn in Caruana's territory on the kingside (e5), the same area that Topalov is also weak. Will it be the winner of Norway Chess 2015, Veselin Topalov, or Mister 7-0 from the 2014 Sinquefield Cup, Fabiano Caruana who comes out on top in this tense strategical struggle?

Very good job as always. I've seen the game live and something I might add to the Qd1 move: Apparently it's a move that MVL played in a rapid game once in this position and Topalov seems to have liked it.

What do you think of 19...Bxg4 for black? Seems like an interesting piece sac, was hoping you might explore that line. 20. hxg4 Qxg4+ followed by black's knight to f5

@Jerry or anyone else: What does it mean when you use the phrase "to come in with tempo" in places like 22:37? I sort of understand the concept of tempo in the opening, but not so much in the middle game. +ChessNetwork

Moving with an attack on an unprotected and/or more valuable piece. OR attacking where your opponent must retreat, reposition or defend mostly without the option to counterattack. Sometimes, it's like getting 2 moves in a row because you know your opponent must retreat or defend.

At 12:00, why can't black's dark squared bishop take the pawn on d4, given that its defender - the knight on f3 - is in a pin? I'm missing something.

Question: at the positioning you're talking about around 11:10 , can't black just win a free pawn when the queen backs out because the knight is stuck in a pin? Am I missing something, could anyone explain this too me?

Personally i would like to see the whole game played through before the "what if" scenario. I personally get lost in the rambling of what could have happened or what was a better move, maybe it would be better to reflect when the game has been seen once through for those of us who didn't get to see the live chess match. Not trying to sound negative, love the videos.

+Joshua John Granada I have watched Jerry's videos for years, it is SO funny you said that, I had to listen to a video from a year ago to compare to how he sounded today and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. If I had to guess, maybe he had some dental work or something that might make him sound a bit different? I am glad I am not just going crazy and I was not the only one to think Jerry sounded different.
@loveless8241
@loveless8241 9 жыл бұрын
7mean7bunny7 For me, Jerry doesn't sound as spontaneous as he usually does (well, based on the playlists I've watched). He sounds less confident, and he pauses more often. I'm not saying the video is bad 'cuz it definitely isn't, but like I said, Jerry just seemed different.
