I have had the feeling that Severin is a bit of a snob and typical English boy. I once saw an interview with the band and the dude asked what food they all liked. Well Severin said 'I like English food'. Now I really think that English food'hasn't really taken off in the world EVER! Infact it is known to be quite rancid and tasteless. For someone who has travelled the world and seen various cultures wouldn't you think that the answer would be rather different? No he's sticking to his English roots right down to the accent and identity. Now if I were asked..

Judging by the year and the channel (MTV) I’m almost certain that the interviewer is Mark Goodman, one of the original VJ’s of MTV. Goodman knows his stuff and wasn’t afraid to ask interesting questions. There was a famous back and forth between Goodman & David Bowie around this time when Bowie during an interview asked point blank why MTV refused to play black artists. Goodman tried to defend MTV and still acknowledge Bowie’s point. Still wouldn’t happen for a few years, but Yo MTV Raps was the first step in that direction

@@user-gh8wt2zi2n In terms of popular culture, there's a strong argument to be made that TV shows like 'The Munsters' and 'The Adams Family' were goth. Siouxsie has said that growing up she was a fan of Carolyn Jones. I'd argue that Yvonne de Carlo in 'The Munsters' heavily influenced Siouxise's look. It's not something a punk / post punk band would fess up to, but to me it's so obvious. Bands like The Doors ( their non-bluesy stuff: The End or People are Strange ) should take some credit for Goth music. Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit was, for me, Goth music.

@Reese Morgan I agree but perhaps proto-Goth. There were (non famous)people who dressed in such a manner in the sixties too.. The full scene itself didn't form till the 70s though. There certainly are Goth, Punk, post-Punk singers who emulated Jim Morrisons

3 bands actually, he had a side project with Severin called The Glove, and that entire period was insanity, the man had just recorded Pornography, which was emotionally draining for him, then joined The Banshees, and in the same year recorded 3 albums back to back plus singles and b-sides the year before, and toured non-stop. The fact Smith was able to write and record The Head on the Door only a year after all of that is both a miracle and a testament to his dedication to music.

High as a kyte , plus Siouxsie Sioux has always had this strong feminine presence . I´m actually quite surprised she´s so " nice " about Robert Smith in this ... maybe cause it is MTV ... around this era , and I´m certain I´m not the only one , I read something in some magazine about her saying that the reason Robert Smith was out was because he was " a lousy lay " - sth to that effect .

@@zaradragonia9863 Alcohol, Meth ( in various different forms which can be found in the UK - paste, base etc ... ) , I can definitely recall them disclosing they were using Opium and Psychedelics for The Glove´s sessions ... what was there left back then ? Well, Hash was as vulgar as is these days , just cleaner ( imho that is - might well be my " messed up receptors - whatever that means ) . Basically the one drug I can´t recall any of them naming in 83/84 was " blow " . Curious , innit ? Specially when you consider that it would soon after become The Cure´s " Icing Sugar " so to speak .
