Sipaliwini savanna, Suriname expedition 08-2022

The Sipaliwini savanna is a large savanna divided over Northern Brazil and Southern Suriname. An extraordinary looking landscape with many hills, rocks and forest-islands. Some of the forest islands are the only location the blue poison dart frog (Dendrobates azureus) occurs! Dick Langeveld is a true adventurer who wanted to experience the remote jungles and savannas of Suriname. Local indigenous showed us around their beautiful nature for 4 days before we flew on towards the Kabalebo river.

Have you reached the Surinamese Brazilian border where the boundary markers are? I would really like to visit there one day

No unfortunately not, it would be about a week hike to get there. We had another expedition on the Tapanahony river from where a trail starts, from there the hike would also be about 4 days.

Do you have any information on the plant species to co-occur with the dendrobates tinctorius "azure" that you found?

Not much details on any smaller plants. However in the areas where they are living they seem to prefer big trees with large plank-roots. Also we have seen that they prefer living around the Acariquara (locally named: pari udu), especially fallen ones, probably since they have many little water pockets to lay their eggs.
