Hugh Laurie also plays piano very well. Does Sir Anthony also have a cd? I have a nephew named Anthony. He's 14 and until this year was taking cello lessons. I wish he hadn't given up, but I tried oboe and realised I'd never be as good as David McCallum, no matter how much I practised. He's played more than just oboe over the years and he also conducted-like his dad.

Hopkins is one of my favorite actors. He is masterful in whatever role he plays. He took a pretty good stab at Chopin. I heard Van Cliburn play the Chopin Polonaise and many other pieces, concertos, etc. in live performance over the years. He brought the house down every time. He was a musical genius and the greatest pianist I ever heard in live concert. Also a very sweet, kind and humble man. RIP, Van.

As a musician I find this incredibly beautiful but also incredibly sad. All our lives we learn these favorite notes and pieces and develop the feel for the music, which takes such an immense amount of commitment and long term memory, and when we pass away, all of that knowledge simply disappears in seconds. Every single musician has such a personal connection with the music they play that I will not only mourn when Anthony passes, but mourn for his special and unique emotional connection to the music he chose to learn throughout his lifetime.

@Aimee Shaw...Well, that is why we are quite blessed these days, to at least have recordings, film of people shaing their talents with us. Isn't the same as like performance. But, that is what we have.

It's sad to me as well with Sir Anthony as well. Did you see his waltz video with Andre Rieu? Well worth a watch. He had written a piece some decades ago. He didn't think anyone would like it so he put it away. The video was the waltz's debut. He was in the audience and got to see an entire venue of people not just enjoy his piece but they came to life over it. It was so lovely but I kept thinking what else might he have written since this if he knew he was really good at composing? And I'm sure he felt validated that night but were those decades of uncertainty necessary? Was the validation worth waiting so long for?

There is an album titled, "Anthony Hopkins, Composer" with nine tracks by him. They are orchestrated though I don't know who did that. They are moody and cinematic. Especially nice are "Evesham Fair" and "And the Waltz Goes On". A very talented man.

Holy cow, he plays Chopin Polonaise in A flat... and seems as if he really once played it not bad at all even though he seems out of practice. He is definitely way above average as a hobby pianist.

He learned to play piano to a pretty high standard when he was young, and - I think - contemplated going to music school. Hopkins eventually enrolled at the Welsh College of Music & Drama, albeit to study acting.

I have admired Sir Anthony for many years...and this video has shocked me really.. I had no idea he is also a talented pianist. I am a musician myself and I can tell you, he plays with real soulful reflection and personal enjoyment.. What an amazing man!!! In the movie "The Two Popes" he plays this tune but (fictionally) he credits Bedřich Smetana. The true is that the compositions is by Anthony. He wanted to include it in the film in order to get the credits

Such a lovely down to earth man and extremely talented, not only a great actor but composer too. He certainly has proved that he isn't stupid as he has said in other interviews. More to the point he was probably dyslexic at school, that was why it was hard for him to understand the teachers. Who in those days didn't know anything about dyslexia, the teachers and education system were very brutal . Thankfully he overcame it and learned to play the piano, learning the chords and how to compose music. That in itself proves he isn't stupid he's also a very fine actor too, if I look that good at his age I will be very grateful.

Its quite common for actors to learn music either singing or playing an instrument it helps the actors memory to learn scripts another Hollywood actor Jack Palance also played the piano and a multi linguist in 5 languages.

I do agree, really very musical! Well, I'm not surprised while it's coming from such a great personality and a sensitive artist. Only something strange about the pedal, which reveals that he is an amateur, but otherwise the sound was very beautiful.
