My parents are environmental engineers who worked in the rainforests in Latin America. We love your nature films. The best way to reconnect with nature is to have a garden, to grow plants you can see grow and harvest, to be aware of how the weather affects them, the entire ecosystem of animals (birds and other insects that pollinate) in just a small plot of land. Everyone should learn to do this in school, it would change everyone's outlook of the planet. You won't waste anything once you realize how much work a plant has to do to produce one fruit, one beautiful leaf, or flower.

Diana .C thats exactly my point. We're not sheep. We can't hope someone in leadership will make the change. The reason we're in this mess is that although environmentalists and scientists have been alerting us to climate change for the past 30 years or more, it didn't suit governments pockets to make any changes. The UK and various other countries have finally woken up to the fact that green energy is the way to go and are implementing it. Late in the day but better than nothing. We need to keep pressuring them. After all, they are only in power bc of us (in a democracy anyway). It's just very unfortunate that two of the most powerful countries in the world: the US and China, still put money before people and the planet.

Wasting electricity is foolish but at the same time domestic electricity is barely a spot on our global emissions. You can keep your lights on all day of the year and you'll reduce your emissions more if you eat couple steaks less that year than if you turned lights off when you aren't using them. Same goes for water. Producing things uses more resources than you can imagine. Buying less is the thing to do.
