Funny Allan, but I just went on about how it seems Benny Hill did all of this type of thing, with another KZfaq commenter who "dare I say that Humphries is the greatest comedian of all time.", to which I suggested Hill. Being from the UK, care to comment on Benny versus Barry? Who do you believe was doing this stuff first? I guess maybe it really doesn't matter, both are very funny men. Perhaps they developed their comedy concurrently, as they were literally a world apart. And I imagine the Aussies will vote Humphries and The Brits will vote Hill. And we Americans are caught somewhere in between... hahaha. My vote goes with Hill, probably because I saw him probably 45 or so years ago, whereas I just caught the Edna/Patterson skits today. Ever hear of Benny Hill? He did all of this same thing generally, and much more, and was born ten years earlier than Humphries. I watch this, and his Edna potrayal, which are quite good, but I know I've seen this before, and my mind goes right back to Benny Hill. Them being literally a world apart may explain some of the imitation aspects, but it leads one to think, who came first, the Benny or the Barry? I side with Benny, primarily because he was older. I first saw Hill, and all of his wonderful hilarity, in the late seventies on American PBS. I just caught wind of Humphries today, on KZfaq. Perhaps, if I had seen Humphries 45 years ago, and Hill just now, my view would be different. Just saying...
