GRR🚩387 बेतद्य: (Betadyo) भक्तपुरमा मनाइने बिस्का जात्रामा तानिने भैरवनाथको रथको अगाडी सारथीको रुपमा रहेका देवता नै बेतद्य: हो । बेतद्य: भैरवनाथको आसन हुन जो रगत र हिंसामा सौखिन छन । अशुभ शक्ति र अशुभ भाग्यबाट मानिसको रक्षा र कल्याणको लागि भगवान भैरवको चरणमा बेतद्य:लाई सधैं राख्ने गर्दछ । भक्तपुरमा मनाउने बिस्का जात्रा हेर्न र भद्रकाली मातालाई खोज्न काशी बिश्वनाथ मानिसको रुप धारण गरि नेपालमा आएका थिए । जात्रा हेर्ने क्रममा नेपालका तान्त्रिकहरुले चिनेर नेपालमै रोक्न खोज्दा काशी बिश्वनाथको शिर छेडन भयो । त्यही छेडन भएको शिरलाई आज हामी भैरवनाथ भन्दछौ । भैरवनाथ नफर्किएको कारण भैरवलाई खोज्दै बेतद्य: एक सानो सात बर्षको बालक भई तेल बेच्दै नेपाल आई पुगे । यसरी तेल बेच्दै आएका कारण यस देवतालाई मानन्धरहरुको छोराको रुपमा लिने गर्दछ । एक लोककथा अनुसार बेतद्य: एक असभ्य केटा थियो जसले सधैं पकाएको खाना बिगार्ने, सुतिरहेका मानिसहरूलाई थप्पड हान्ने, भर्याङबाट खसाल्ने जस्ता उत्सृङ्खल कार्यहरु गर्थे । यहि कारण बेतद्य:लाई सधै बाँधेर राख्ने गरिन्छ । बाँधेर राख्दा पनि तह लगाउन नसकेपछि धलिन माथी घोप्टो पारेर बाँधेर राख्ने गरिन्छ । यसरी बाँधेर राखेको बेतद्य:लाई मानन्धरहरुले बोकेर भैरवनाथको रथमा राख्ने गर्दछ । एक समय तिब्बतीहरु नेपाल जित्ने अभिप्रायले नेपाल आउँदा कहाँ पुगिएको थाहा नपाई बटुवाहरुलाई सोध्दै आउने क्रममा बाचामारी पुगेर भक्तपुर तिर हेर्दा सानो बालक बेतद्य:ले एक हातले "हस्ते" गर्दै भैरवनाथको रथ तान्नेछ र अर्को हातले "हाइसे" गर्दै लिङ्गो उठाएछ । एक ब्यक्ति नै यति बलिया भए सबै आए हाम्रो के होला ? भनी तिब्बतीहरु डराइ भागेका कारण जीवन रथार्थ बेतद्य:लाई भगवान मानी पुजिन्दै बिस्का जात्रामा रथको अगि राखिन थालेको भन्ने प्रचलन पनि रहि आएको छ । लेख: GR Ranjit स्रोत: Amrit Mishra

Okay as no one could properly elaborate the folklore behind Biska Jatra, I'll write what I know so far. Legend has it, Lord Bhairava from the holy place of Kashi Vishwanath (Banaras) used to come here yearly to observe the "Yoshin Thaneu" (Lingo uthaune) jatra. In the meantime, he also fell in love with Bhadrakali Ajima, who belonged to Bhaktapur. Lord Bhairava didn't show his real "Roop" and always used to visit the Jatra in disguise of a human. He was the tallest amongst all and a local Tantric from Bhaktapur recognized him to be no ordinary being but the fierce Lord Bhairava instead. After seeing the Tantric approaching him, Lord Bhairava began running away. He was about to elapse from the River of Chapinggal, at Yoshinkhel but the Tantric caught his hair and cut down his head, allowing the body to get back at Kashi without the head. Then, for the sake of protection of Bhaktapur, Lord Bhairava was built a temple at Taumadhi and got placed inside. But he remained angry plus his nature is already fierce. So to keep him calm, the rath jatra started as an act of honor and respect. Since then, "Bhailakha", his chariot is made every year and pulled all the way down the place of Yoshinkhel (Lingo uthaune thau) as he's fond of the Jatra.
