An all-time great ! I wish the Golden Globe Awards would have been shown on TV back in 1981 when Sissy won the award for playing Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner's Daughter.

This movie was heartbreaking and her performance was AMAZING as a grieving mother. The entire cast was FANTASTIC. GREAT FILM. It deserved ALL THE AWARDS!! She most DEFINITELY deserved the Oscar for it, so bummed she only got the globe. This film is really great.

Sissy would have won the Oscar if it hadn't been the year for the Academy to finally acknowledge the African American actor. Even Denzel, in his Oscar speech made a comment knowing so. In the Bedroom was the best film of 2001.

This has nothing to do with anything. But I think that in Awards shows, they tape reactions from the celebrity audience during an earlier part of the ceremony, so that when they're mentioned later in the speeches, the producers are able to broadcast "live" reactions. That's why the people who are cut away to never seem to be reacting appropriately to the speeches being given.

@JM4EDR M mom is mixed race (B & W) and was13 years old in 1963 - she was considered black, even though she was mixed race and was rejected by white people (not all) at very strong terms. Her teacher even told her that she was "half dumb-half bright" and would only be capable of doing certain things because of her supposedly "mixed" brain. Many mixed race people feel the same way from that era and obviously feel a connection with the black side...So what is the black angle? No anger btw!

Ya'll keep saying Sissy shoulda won the Oscar that year. Don't you know the Oscars are not always about who actually DESERVES it, more about doing the right thing. In that year Hollywood feeling mighty guilty not awarding a black actress the Oscar in a leading role. Along comes Halle Berry and what better opportunity to award her the Oscar ! Even Halle admitted later she didn't think she would win.

Spacek deserved her 2nd Oscar for "In the Bedroom". THe Oscars were clearly rigged that year. Halle Barre won for Best Actress in a Pornographic Role for "Monster's Ball" at the Oscars. She deserved it for that...nothing else. "Monster's Ball was pure trash while "In the Bedroom" was pure art.

@kamelion7 I totally agree. Spacek is a legend but because she isn't drop-dead gorgeous, she's ignored. Berrie's Oscar was for political reasons, it was sooo obvious. And those false tears when she won was vomit-inducing. Not to mention, she is half WHITE and was bought up by her white mother, (as are A LOT of "black" women but are of white parentage also), but it's better for them to use the black angle I suppose.
