In this video, we will be going over the life and resting place of Joni Sledge. She was an American singer best known as a founding member of the family vocal group Sister Sledge. The group was known for their hits during the mid-1970s through the mid-1990s; most notably 1979's "We Are Family" and "He's the Greatest Dancer".

Joni was my favorite. I saw the girls live twice. Joni was a crowd pleaser, chanting and clapping it up.

Sister Sledge are 4 of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. And I saw them up close as they invited me on stage with them at the Blue Max theater near O'Hare Airport in July 1980. Joni was my favorite and I am still heart broken.

they had a great album out in 1980 but it was not given radio play. must have been a great show in july 1980. this act did not get the accolades it deserved.

Man I was so in loved with Joni Sledge when I was a teenager in the 80s that was my absolute favorite out of all the sisters I remember one time I was taking a nap in the living room in my mother woke me up and all I remember saying to her where is Joni I thought joni was here not realizing I was dreaming my mother was like Lord have mercy my son done woke up dreaming about Joni Sledge lol those were the days lol 😆

Kathy said she did not leave the group she was still with them while doing her solo album. Later on Debbie kicked Kathy out of the group and took her rights to the name.

That picture you showed was not of Edwin Sledge. That pic was of Fred Davis, who was Edwin's dance partner. They were known as Fred & Sledge.

According to Getty images and Discogs.com, these sources indicated that was Edwin Sledge. There is a photo with both Fred & Sledge together, and cropped it out to show only Edwin Sledge

rest in Peace I live near Ivy Hill cemetery met them years went to their house for cookout a buddy who also was a great singer that sang in Bands bit didn't make ot big they seemed nice and I was very bashful so I was a little stunned love them

I was about to share this video to promote our upcoming Mar 17th concert featuring the Sledge Family (5 yrs after her death Mar 10th). Until the audio started repeating from 3:50m+ over again at 6:20-6:40m+.

Joni was such a good dancer. When SS performed, I always watched Joni move! She danced inside the beat, not to it. She was an awesome human being. Miss her dearly. ❤️

Thanks for doing the video..Your knowledge of Sister Sledge appears limited..At 1:43 youre speaking on Joni, but zoomed in on Kim. Joni didnt sing lead on "He's The Greatest Dancer" its Kathy, but you inserted footage of Joni singing it. Joni leads on "Lost In Music" At 4:04 you're discussing Joni, but zooming in on Kathy. Do you really know who Joni/Sister Sledge are?
