Just like sitting with friends and chatting! As usual, sweet and funny and informative. Arne reading his childhood books was so exciting for me, because I am also re re reading my most favorite childhood books by Enid Blyton. ( I'm in my mid sixties). Still totally in love with all of them. It's a time machine, reading childhood books. Totally transports me to simple carefree days and the thrill of adding another book to my collection when I was young. In these crazy times, I certainly am enjoying going back to reading old books, once in a while.

Oh my goodness! Nancy Drew is my FAVORITE sleuth! She can do everything: tap dance, Morse code, expert carpenter, etc etc. The old original books are wonderful: she pulls on her gloves before she gets in her roadster. She gives advice like “stay away from the fireplace when the rescue helicopter shows up because the sparks will ruin your sleek coif.” And hey - the room you are in, with its wonderful paneling, looks straight out of a Carl Larsson painting. I have a little mountain camp like it and try to model the rooms after Larsson’s ideas. There is a “funny” meme circulating here about the financial anxiety we feel when we hear our furnaces kicking in. The cold will bankrupt us all. I’m knitting your patterns like mad and am staying warm. Thanks for this chat! Xx

For me this is an amazing podcast for several reasons. I am from Scottish heritage and every time you’ve discussed your traditional outfits you are making I’ve wondered if my tartan would have been acceptable if I had been Norwegian (my children have my Scottish heritage and their father’s Norwegian heritage). I understand now that my tartan would not have been accepted and why. I enjoyed that history section. Then you spoke about the orchestra and knitting with them in the future. My knitting life revolves highly around knitting handwarmers (as I like to call them). This is at least 75% of what I do. And then you showed your beautiful mitten. I peered over my knitting to catch a glimpse. Then something amazing! Your wrist warmers, bold and beautiful! And as if that was not enough, Carlos, you demonstrated how a person could play violin with them on. Your movement of the bow arm was perfect! I spent years teaching students to acquire that fluidity in bowing. Do you play?

I can now really relate to your winter stories. It is freezing in central Texas and the snow is thick on the ground. The trees are breaking from the ice. Our electricity comes and goes and so does the water. Our systems are not set up for weather this cold. Outside, the deer are huddled together. Our dog Trixie wears a sweater when she goes out. All this is to say, I really enjoyed this episode as I felt like we were talking together about shared experienes. So happy you all are back.

I enjoyed your podcast as usual. The moose story rings a bell with me. Here in Alaska the snow is deep and the moose are coming into town to walk on the plowed streets as they search for food. This is their hungry time until the trees start budding. Monday we had a cow with her twin calves lay down and take a 2 hour nap in our front yard. Then, refreshed they got up, and walked down the street in search of supper. We call them urban moose since they aren’t deterred by cars or dogs and seem to take all the noises of the town in stride.

Thanks so much for this episode! I sat and finished doing duplicate stitch on the Theo Dickey I have been making for my husband. I particularly enjoyed hearing about your time in Orkney, where I have also been. Such a wonderful place! Birds, archaeology, and wool!

Music and knitting? Who knew! My husband walked into the room and said, “how can you watch people you don’t know talk about nothing?” I never laughed so much! Stitching and Nothing. Nothing better.
