Welcome to Sitka Alaska;
This past summer Darlene and I took the grandkids and spent a week in the quaint little town of Sitka Alaska. This is where I lived from the age of 11 until I left town at 21. I did a ton of growing up here. For me this was a great place to live during those years. I have been back a few times since I originally left in the mid 70's. Sitka has not changed a whole lot in all the years since I moved away. Sure, there are a few new buildings in town, a few new people as well, but the little town of Sitka still has that small, southeastern Alaska feel I remember. If you're planning a trip into this part of Alaska, make sure to put Sitka on your list of stops.

It was a long-held dream of mine to visit Sitka, a cruise 10 yrs ago missed it due to weather, last summer we tried again, the weather was beautiful and the time spent was worth the cost. Tour bus only hit a few places, our walking days are over but we did do the church, some of downtown, the totem pole park and the Jackson museum. The time was to short but that time along with your video made up for it. Thank you for the time spent with your tour.

Curt, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I would say I'm very familiar with this little Alaskan town. Growing up there from the age of 11 to 21 gives you a lot of time to explore just about everything. It's very hard to totally capture any place during the short visit on a cruise ship. Glad you liked Sitka during your visit. Thanks for watching. If you need a travel partner, join us with some of our other travel videos. Be Safe.

So cool to take a trip down memory lane! I grew up in Sitka, leaving in 82-83! I lived off of Crabapple Drive, so just a few blocks from the castle site!

82-83... Ya, I had already moved south by then. My family arrived in Sitka December of 64. I was 11 years old at that time. We moved there because my father had taken a job at ALP (Alaska Lumber and Pulp). I was there from elementary school to working 3 years at the pulp mill. I left in April of 75. Those were some of the most memorable years of my life. Great little town. Glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching.

@@kmmorrin Thats cool, My father worked there as well. He was the head of electrical engineering and was rather instrumental in helping me get on right out of high school. I'm sure they knew each other. I would ask him but he passed back in 2017. Sitka was way to small not to know most everybody.

@@rideupsidevideoadventures3172 I don’t know if I know you or not, but I very well could. I moved to Sitka in 1961, and then bounced around Southeast for a few years and then back to Sitka for the last 30 years before I moved to Idaho. I graduated from Sitka high in 1976. I miss Sitka. That will always be home to me. Would love to get back there again as well. Take care, it’s a small world .

I got to Sitka with the family in Dec of 1964 right after Christmas. The family lived there for about eight years, then my father took a job in Washington St. and they all left. I stayed a couple more years because I had a job at ALP. In 1975 at the age of 21 I decided to follow the family and headed south as well. I've only been back a few time to visit, but growing up there has always been such an amazing part of my life. You graduated in 76... I was out of High school in 72 and Started at the mill that same year. My name is Michael Kerner. I'm sure we know a lot of the same peeps from town.

Hi. Enjoyed the video! My wife and I are planning to visit Sitka this September. I would really like to do the Gavin Hill and/or Tabor Mountain hike but my wife is unable to hike. Is it safe to hike alone or could you possibly recommend a local person who might be up to join me on the hike?

@rideupsidevideoadventures3172 11 ай бұрын
Gavin Hill was always less accessible as far as trails go. That may have changed in the 50 years since I actually lived there. Harbor Mountain will be very different. There is a dirt/gravel road that goes to the top, and then a very nice trail that goes to the very peak. The views of Sitka from there (peak) will be great. Don't forget your camera... Telephoto lens would be good also. Hope you have a great time. Thanks for your comments.
