With RW06 closed due to wind direction, the mid afternoon traffic could only use RW03 for arrivals and departures.
Kudos to the Air Traffic Controller who directed the 55 minutes of arrivals and departures at Perth Airport!
Includes Alliance Airlines (VH-FGB) "90th Anniversary - 1st Trans Pacific Flight" special colours Fokker F100.

That triple 7 was the plane i left Australia in 2011 ( Sydney/Singapore SQ 222 ). It was one of the sadest days in my entire life. I felt lonely and hopeless that day......

@5:40 So Qantas' terminal is a left exit and, as per Perth airport's procedures, they plan for a delta exit. To be given a request to vacate 700 meters earlier on final is a lovely spanner in the works. Maybe a quick discussion to increase the autobrake setting or a mini-brief to disengage autobrake early on in the roll and go for full reverse as opposed to idle to see if they can make it. They made it. Love it

Interesting to compare YPPH ATC to KSFO where I have watched and listened many times. US ATC deals with such tight schedules all the time and seems to have a much more 'scoot or boot' approach. By this I mean they seem to clear takeoffs while incoming is on relatively short 'long' final, and the whole thing roles along very quickly. Aus ATC seems to delay planes a lot more, less 'fitting them in' and get em going approach. I've seen it at YMML and YSSY too, planes waiting a lot longer while incoming is miles away on long final. Anyone observed this syndrome or am I imagining it?

Just a point to indicate this. VA 1889 rotates at 33.55 but QF 582 sits a full minute before being cleared for take off at 37.00. Wake turbulelence et al, but is 30 seconds wait not enough because rotation of QF 582 is now a full 1 min 50 seconds after VA 1889? So a departure every 2 minutes almost, whereas, 45 seconds is the norm in the US at busy times?

Obviously if wake turbulence is an issue, we have to give the correct wake turbulence spacing for safety of the following aircraft. Wake turbulence comes with a whole host of different separation minimas which I wont cover here. Then there are plenty of other factors to consider - if a slower aircraft (eg: a F100 is considered slower than a B717 or B737) departs first and the second are following the same SID or going a similar route, we need to give the departures controller extra spacing. If they turning different directions (first turns to the west and second to the east) then even if first aircraft is slower we can use what we call tower separation and get them airborne making sure we can visually see and separate them until they have both turned their opposite directions and a radar separation exists. (Therefore in bad weather, low cloud etc, we can't do that and need to give a radar separation making sure the aircraft don't get closer than the required radar separation provided). Hence we push traffic closer on clear days compared to bad weather days. Then there is other factor of traffic crossing (arriving and departing Jandakot airport) so the departures controller will hold our traffic on the ground until they ready to accept the next aircraft in order to get the required separation airborne with that traffic. So it sometimes seems we holding aircraft unnecessary but I assure you, we getting them airborne as quick as we can according to all the rules and procedures we have to follow.

@@christwine Thanks for the reply Chris. Yes, I get this. I once flew an Archer into the wake of a Lear Jet at Jandakot, that was fun. I was on base, while he was on long final and I wondered if I had enough separation. It was the most acrobatic final I ever made to be sure. Just saying, that I have actually heard SFO approach use the term "you better scoot, or boot" to a UA (Skywest US) RJ that I was on,being a bit slow to turn into base after ATC communication, when you could hear live ATC on United. They really pump them in quickly there with two sets of parallel cross runways. Another thing, the airlines will make quite steep turns rapidly on take off at about 200 feet to keep themselves out of each others way. It does seem Oz ATC is much more conservative, and that is not a criticism, just an observation.
