I loved seeing U.S. service personnel performing this piece. It's important that Americans remember that the men an women serving in our armed are living, breathing human beings willing to put their lives on the line to defend our country. Proud to say my daughter served in the Navy. Very fine video.

Hello. I'm from Russia. I read that in the US you can no longer call men and women men and women, is that true? I myself am related to the fleet and I believe that a woman on a ship should only be a guest. Woman is a symbol of peace, mother. It shouldn't have anything to do with the war. War is the business of men.

Fantastic version of a song that originated in South Island New Zealand nearly two centuries ago. Who would have thought it would make such a comeback in todays music. Well performed.

Yep Whalers out of Sydney called Weller Bros that had a whaling station where Dunedin NZ would later be, the resupply ship called the Wellerman would hopefully turn up and give some relief to the lads hunting the Southern Ocean around Antarctica, amazing this diddy has come to see the light of day again, its the tale of when they hooked a large Southern Right Whale Bull and he took them for a ride and lost some crew in the process

I saw the Irish Rovers in concert for the first time when I was 15 or 16 years old. I saw them again 35 years later, and they were every bit as good then as they were the first time I saw them.

I love old nautical ballads like this and have no idea why. The ending with The Sailor’s Hornpipe was a pleasant surprise. Well done!

One of my very first records as a child was the Irish Rovers. Still love them. Never heard of the Six-String Soldiers before, but they sound good!

I love this version. It’s nice that it has a conclusion and it’s one of respect from the Captain of the ship but leaving the whale with that ‘don’t think it’s over’ message. I imagine the Captain waving as the whale goes of.

Eeh... kinda Disney-fies it though, doesn't it? The original song isn't supposed to be happy - it's indentured labor, hard labor with no end in sight, and the best you can hope for is the occasional sugar and tea and rum.

@@Visplight No I don’t think it does Disney-fy it. I think it gives it an ending. I’m not saying either is right or wrong or that this version is better, I’m just saying I love it. The first version will always be the one that I think of and play when I think of that tune but to me this has its merits.

That was a fun performance. It is also the first version I have heard that has a "conclusion" to the hunt. Most of the versions leave the impression that the Billy of Tea is STILL fighting to bring in that whale! ;)
