Why do so many people of an earlier generation insist that the times back then were better than the times we're living in now?. For the simple reason that they WERE BETTER! 😊

Not agreeing completely, they were very different: Music was rebellion and that spirit left by the end of the 90's Today's technology was unimaginable when these songs came out. The spirit of Rebellion left the charts and you can hear that.

76 here . My memory for music related stuff-- lyrics, artists, song titles Etc is actually unbelievable. I wish I could make some money from it because it is sure taking up a lot of my brain RAM. I can still tell when somebody tries to sneak in an alternate take of an oldie, but because I have listened to most of these songs from this era for so long there is literally a groove of the studio recording cut into my brain. I recently listened to a somewhat more modern song called Roll Away the Stone by Mott the Hoople (1973)and something just wasn't quite right. Well it took me about 15 minutes but I eventually found the original version from the original album. And of course there was an alternate take that was virtually identical except for the sounds of the women backing singers. And of course the reasons for the alternate take had to do with feuds/ legal problems between the band and their record label.

The BBC has banned any music before 1980s, so no Beatles et al, that's why pop music is just mush, nothing catchy riffy at all. Boring Talent show excrements or bands who are unable to compose tunes, you can only learn from the Beatles who learnt from Bert Weedon books as did Hank Marvin.

I'm from the 60's/70's.....youth. Today it's repeating lyrics, and auto-tuned everything. It's been 20 years since I heard anything new that I like or see some great "new sound". Where did talent go? I don't know. The last real Rock/Pop superstar was Billy Armstrong, in regards to writing and performing. Cobain was another. The best currently is Taylor Swift. But I'm no fan. Proves yet again great music is timeless.I recently played a "Shadows"cd in the car LOUDLY ! My 2 grandchildren were amazed & asked for it again days later. At traffic lights I got to smile at the other drivers tapping their fingers &,in a couple of cases rolling their windows DOWN to hear better !

Look at me - I'm an idiot ....and proud of it ! Just attention grabbing fools . Their thinking , if indeed they actually have a brain , which in a lot of case's is very doubtful , says a lot about the way ' society ' thinks these days . But then ' society ' , is now virtually non existent . Everyone for themselves , stuff everybody else . I'll do what I want to do , and no one can stop me . And if they have children , and you wonder why , they bring them up to be mirror images of themselves . So the chain remains unbroken , into the foreseeable future . Not a nice prospect for those who follow in our footsteps

I can remember playing “Telstar” by the Tornados over and over again on the juke box at my beach club back when you could play 3 songs for a quarter. What a great song. Little did I know that it was a precursor to the British Invasion which would come to the US about 2 years later.

Wow ! Wonderful Land, by The Shadows, at 11:34 ! Wow. What a combination of a both mournful and at the same time uplifting instrumental. Hauntingly beautiful, I remember it from my own teenage years, and had not heard it again until today when I stumbled on it here. I'm pushing 77 yrs. Honestly, it brought tears to my eyes.

To: "Pete Roberts" --- Thanks for posting the video. Listening to and watching these videos made me realize something that I have known for years: They are all much better than the stuff that came along 5 and 10 and 15 years later with people having no singing voice aptitude, howling / screaming into a microphone instead of playing notes and cords on instruments. Rather amazing how much sound the electric keyboard player got from it on "Telstar".

My brother had a crystal radio with headphones so I used to borrow it and listen under the bedclothes.
