I would like to know if you are from Jamaica and you know, when Derrick Morgan and Prince Buster. Where they have several fights with their fans,I guessed you are just speculating. Because you don't know the nature of the violence, that pm Hugh Shearer haveto put a stopping to it. Because you don't know what you are saying at all about feud,I lived in the inner city of Kingston. When there is tribal war between both parties, you lived on the same street and. You cannot go up the street, and the other people them cannot come down the street. I cussed you don't understand the city life, do you know anyone out of the two of them. Well I know both of them more than 60 years ago, and it was personal experiences. So it is really up to you, that you said it was a stunt,ok.

You just need to make sure the original writer and/or publisher is notified of the cover and are paid the correct mechanical royalty. On platforms like Spotify and Deezer, these licenses are already in place and the correct fees will be deducted from any revenue and paid to the right party. If you use a different platform or make physical copies then this needs to be done manually. In my case, I will have my publisher do the necessary paperwork. Depending on what country you are in and how many copies/downloads/streams you get then you can purchase the license in advance.

@@Traxploitation as far as i know, distributors like f.e. distrokid ask if you have the license of the songowner. may i ask wich distributor you are with? and bandcamp also asks this: "What can I upload? Are covers OK? You must own or control all rights to everything you upload. That means covers are out, unless you have a written license or authorization from the artist to upload the cover to Bandcamp and grant us the rights in the terms below. Do not upload cover songs unless you have obtained all permissions and authorizations in writing!"

@@cologneconductor8591 yeah, bandcamp say not to upload covers as a default in their terms. But theres still loads of covers on there 🤷‍♂️ I don't use distrokid or any of the online distributors. I use an independent distributor. Send me an email I'll give you more details.

The Folkes Brothers case is actually a great story! Worthy of its own video, thanks for reminding me! I was going to do a video on why so many reggae artists didn't get paid properly and who actually got the money... the people that actually profited from the exploitation of Jamaican artists in the 60s, 70s and 80s may surprise you. Derrick Morgan said that although he released his first single in 1961 he didnt know what royalties or publishing was until 1972. Max Romeo said he has NEVER received any royalties for the "War Inna Babylon" album and the only money he got was when Jay Z and Prodigy sampled "Chase The Devil". Ive helped a lot of Jamaican artists collect money owed to them and they all tell a similar story, the Jamaican producers would tell those that asked about royalties "Your money dere ah england" so they'd go to London to the record label that licensed it and would be told either the Jamaican producer got all the money, there was no money or the money was in USA or some other wild goose chase....

@@donhue4546 probably around '61 or '62 did it evolve into ska. Fats Domino was massively popular in Jamaica so a lot of recordings in the 50's are an emulation of his style. His influence on Jamaican music cannot be stressed enough. Listen to his song "Be My Guest" and you will hear the song that likely lead to ska. Super Cat even payed tribute to him in the 90's by turning his "My Girl Josephine" into a dancehall hit..
