most of the time when you do your speed glitches, the board slides under you. that is why you need to cannonball. the lower the board is at the landing, the faster you usually go. you still need timing on your landings like skaterr said...

You're probably holding the cannonball too long. Try to see if releasing the right stick right before you hit Y works

After staying up until 3:00am trying to do this fucking thing I finally achieved maximum velocity! I doubted, I was tired but I can go faster now than I had ever thought possible. Trying to do this glitch is like trying to start a fire with a wooden stick. You don't think it's possible until you achieve the end result, then you get a lot better at it.
