That's so cool that you ice skate. When I was growing up all I wanted to do was learn how to ice skate. I used to watch all the figure skating Olympics and all that as a kid I want to do that so bad it looks so cool and they looked all so pretty doing all the spins and tricks.

I've currently got Jackson Mystique's (I've only started learning to skate September of 2018) and I'm planning to get my next skates in early summer (likely late May/early June), and I plan on getting Edea Chorus, so this video was very informative! I am a traitor. I took a decade or more off skating, trying to come back... edeas are now all the rage. I’m sorry to say aesthetically they do nothing for me! I love the traditional deep rich wood heels, and sleek no ridges look on my leather lol. I still love harlick or good ole sp. still have my Jackson’s my original coach had me get in 03. I still don’t skate well in them. They never broke in. Don’t think Jackson suits my feet . Would never get them again!
@Garceyy
@Garceyy 4 жыл бұрын
I felt like that when I first saw the ice fly's especially but honestly try them and you might well be a convert. I don't think any brands really have skates with wooden heels anymore and any higher level skate will have some kind of design feature. I hope you find a boot that suits you soon!!

Hi! I have the Edea Chorus boot and am trying to decide between Coronation Ace and the MK Professionals. What are the major differences that can help make the decision?
@nancythrall4441

Sʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ Fɪɢᴜʀᴇ Sᴋᴀᴛɪɴɢ Hi there! Well, I made my decision and went with Coronation Ace based on two things. First, I have just the MK Galaxy now and don’t like the toe pick. My skate shop said if I don’t like it on my Galaxy I won’t like it on the Pro. The second thing was upon looking at the Edea website they actually stated that they most often put the Coronation Ace on the Chorus boot. So, those two things plus all the good reviews made me go with Coronation Ace.

I am picking up my skates with the new blades this evening and will be skating on them tomorrow! I will try to get back on here and let you know what I think of the blades!
@nancythrall4441
@nancythrall4441 6 жыл бұрын
Sʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ Fɪɢᴜʀᴇ Sᴋᴀᴛɪɴɢ I love love love the Coronation Ace blades, it was a super easy transition from the MK galaxy blades. The more curved rocker and better clearance between the ice and toe pick made everything totally smooth almost immediately - the ‘sweet spot’ for turning made my three turns perfectly smooth and effortless, didn’t even have to think about them. So, if you’re looking for a blade that allows for spins and turns a bit easier and you have a bit more toe pick clearance (but still have a significant toe pick for jumps etc) then, in my opinion, the Coronation Ace blades are an excellent choice! I couldn’t be happier with them but I know every skater is different with different preferences but for me these are a better fit for me than the MK line. I hope this helps and you find blades that are a great fit for you too! My MKs were so frustrating to me and these seemed effortless in comparison, for me anyway :)
@michealbarkman9542

Hey there, so most of the blades that Jackson Ultima manufactures have 8ft rocker profiles except for the dance and the Matrix Nova, also regarding the blades that come with the mystique models, mainly there design is for beginners who are starting out in lessons so basic edges and stops and small footwork and with the lack of a proper rocker a one foot spin and standard jumps arent really possible due to the lack of a proper toe pick mainly whats called the drag pick which catches you when you land and drags in the ice so you dont fall fowards. Now with the MK Professionals it comes with a 7ft rocker which makes spins easier and with less blade contact on the ice as compared to a 8ft rocker less fatigue is also presented, as well the toe pick is cross cut forming the diamond shaped picks which have a better grip than straight cut picks. I perfer cross cut picks over straight cut due to the fact that it doesnt dig as deep in the ice which wont really slow down the momentum of your jumps as well as not damaging the ice as much lets say with a pattern 99 blade.

Hi, would you still recommend the Jackson ice skates (1st one you showed) for people like me who only skate for fun. I skate every two weeks for fun, it’s merely a hobby. I don’t do any jumps or fancy moves. I just like skating and swirling around just like a figure skater but staying at ground level all the time. Would you recommend me Jacksons or something even cheaper? Something like SFR galaxy or SFR Glitra, or cheapest available from Riedell brand, or Roces Paradise......?? Basically, what price range would you recommend?
@catepilarr
@catepilarr 5 жыл бұрын
the boot choice should not be a trend as you kind of suggest at the beginning of the video. people should try on different brands at their level to find out what boot suits their feet the best. both feet and boots come in differenct shapes. ideally to find a good boot fitter or at least a shop, where you can try different brands and models on.

Hey Faith :) the best person to speak to would be your coach as they will know you better than I do! but from what your saying it sounds like you would be fine going down to Overture or staying with Chorus and coronation ace is a great blade so no problems there. If you want to look into other brands maybe have a look at RF3s or Jackson Competitors (I'm a bit rusty with Jacksons so they might not be the right ones)! 2:00 I believe the jackson Ultima mystique blades are a shallow rocker ie 9ft or more. This gives a more stable fore and aft stability as a learner skate blade. The toe picks are smaller and raised up higher i believe too. A few forum's said "very flat" thus my 9ft or more is my out of my bum engineers best estimate. With each sharpening skate blades often get "more rocker" if the sharpener person whales on the toe and heal areas. Hockey sharpeners often due this. Thus the original profile gets butchered; modified with each sharpening. The sharpening with figure blades is to keep the profile/rocker the same. Sometimes some places radically change the side profile. In a collection of used figure skates i have bought or sharpened the original factory rocker is often lost. Ie many have been sharpened poorly. Regards
@Garceyy
@Garceyy 6 жыл бұрын
thats really interesting! I've had my Jacksons for years so I am beginning to think that a few hockey sharpening have given it more of a rock than it originally had.

I was wondering what is the heel padding like in the ice flys? I have really narrow heels and I've been having issues with my heels slipping, which is not fun on a landing and annoying at best during footwork. The issue is that its not just a slight slip and I don't have access to a decent skate shop anywhere near me. Also last time I traveled I didn't really get much help, they wanted to put me in a wider boot, special order and takes months, for the front of my foot which would leave me with even more issues. I have tried on ice flys once before and I know they fit me well in the front but I can't remember much about the heel padding and I don't know how it breaks down.
@tiasephora
@tiasephora 6 жыл бұрын
Terri M with Edea skates the width options are actually referring to the heel cup. So the c is standard b is narrow a is super narrow. Also they can be heat molded around your heel if you find you are still slipping. That being said you would have to see an edea dealer for proper sizing and molding.
@saloon241
@saloon241 6 жыл бұрын
tiasephora Part of the issue is that I don't have an edea dealer anywhere near me that does proper sizing. I also do need the front of the boot to be wider along with a narrower heel. I have heat molded mine using my hairdryer and pinched the heels but its not perfect since I still need the heel pads I have in my skates and bunga pads. My heels no longer slip so its good enough and my skating has drastically improved. I may just have to keep doing that whenever I buy new skates. My best option would probably be customs but you can't get them in the UK (and the price is insane) and there are no decent shops nearby to get a fitting to try and weed out these problems.
@tiasephora
@tiasephora 6 жыл бұрын
Terri M I also meant to add the front of the boot can be molded however you need it, I have feet that are basically the same width all the way from front to back so the front just stretched a little bit while I was breaking them in and that worked great. I would suggest edea brand to you but it would be hard to say what size you need. Maybe they have sizing guides online? Or a sizing kit you could order if you’re willing to spend the money?
@saloon241
@saloon241 6 жыл бұрын
tiasephora I currently have edeas, I'm in chorus but I beeak down skates fairly quickly so I go up in stifness. I also find edeas do break down fast although I don't have experience with other brands.

I’m 13 and I might start taking ice skating lessons. I know how to... Well, *skate* on ice as I’ve gone on plenty of public sessions and stuff, but does anyone think I just might be starting lessons too late? I’m kinda worried that I’ll be the oldest one there at Level 1 lessons... When did you guys start to learn how to skate? :)
@chloesantiag0
@chloesantiag0 6 жыл бұрын
Also, since I’ll be starting at Level 1 (sorry for all these questions, I’m worried!), should I start my first lesson with Mystique skates or just learn with skate hire? Buying new skates for Level 1 sounds extreme at the very max, but I don’t want to transition into new skates when I’m in, like, Level 3 or 4, where I’ll possibly be learning hard stuff. I feel that if I get skates then, it’ll be difficult to change from hired skates to professional figure skates 😅 P.S. I probably used all the wrong terminology for these questions, but I’m just worried and I need some adviceee

Hey lovely! I started lessons when I was about 7 but I don't think you're too late at all!! I've been working at rinks for years and I've seen people start learn to skate aged 2, 7, 12, 16, 21 all the way up to 58! If it's really something you think you're going to stick to then I'd 100% go into level one with your own skates, or maybe go to the first lessons in hire skates and talk to your coach about the skates you want to buy! Enjoy starting learn to skate though, let me know how it goes xx

Ahhh, thank you 😁 I’ve always wanted to learn how to ice skate and do many tricks, and I had to ‘pitch’ my idea to start lessons to my dad yesterday 😂 It’ll be hard to convince him to buy me my own skates before my first lesson because he doesn’t think I’ll stick to learning how to skate, but if it takes me having to save up, then I’ll do it!! Once again, thank you for the advice and answering my questions, it really helped - I’m just super nervous :/

aelan chloe Honestly it's not too bad changing into your own skates at level 4. When you first start that stuff seems really daunting but by the time you get there it's not too bad. Changing into your own skates at this time would probably improve your skating, although stopping will be hard at first on sharp blades. It also depends on how bad the hire skates are. If they are not too bad then you should be fine in them for a while. I would defiently get some by level 4 tho. You don't want to be doing crossovers in hire skates. One thing to remember is that if you do buy your own skates, make sure they fit and are comfortable and make sure that you get the essentials to care for them. Some places do a starter kit of sorts but you need guards and soakers. Along with an old towel to dry your blades after a session. Obviously the earlier you have them the better so if you can get some then go for it. Maybe go to the lessons at least once before you buy some tho, so you can get a feel for if you will want to continue.
