@amind1317 Жыл бұрын
They are f-ing shredding no one was very interested in easy unless you were a Tony Hawk fan! lol! Speed & Power Style & Difficulty Artistic Expression Agressive Shredding Skating was like a satisfying taboo; the boards were like wild stallions, the barrier they represented was an honor to concour, and was mastered by the pro's. Today, the most difficult tricks look easy even if they aren't. The boards are designed symmetrical and balanced to favor technical flips and switched stances, it all looks easy and that raises the bar for expectations and new abilities to the sky. You guy's are dreaming up some crazy tricks these days, but in the 80's it was more about the process and feeling of skating, not just the feeling of accomplishment (especially for people like me who were never a fan of Tony Hawk, nothing against him for being himself, just not for me).

Nice work on that beautiful ramp,Tim Payne I assume da man,that thing was gorgeous wrapping around the corner,wow nice touch with darker wood too...when I started skating vert 75 ish I was lucky enuf to have a giant to ft long pipe to learn in...only bad thing was it was real plywood when you fell there was a little forgiving bounce like a gymnist floor,concrete don't give u that...but worst part was the plywood burn the pipe was 14 foot high right up to the ceiling of the warehouse when ever you missed a trick you got good at sliding on your paws and changing weight points to make your gear last,even skate short wearnt up to the task,it was a motivator to nail my tricks and not fall because burns suck more than bruise especially when its your skin in important areas like your finger you eat with and brush your teeth,like I said motivation to nail your tricks,a small short 8 or 9 foot slide instantly burn almost a 2 inch hole in pads and pants,enough of dis shit I said and got good real fast,I had a good teacher that was best part...I couldn't skate masonite the first time in Tampa it was so slippery but I could appreciate the reason behind less friction,it was almost nothing compared to real bare plywood...hey the guys were German ship builders,three brothers in Nanuet ,NY,their dream skate park only stayed open for one full year,crushing my skate dreams,but they did a great job no one ever did anything wrong by trying...60 feet plus long,20 feet across and 14ft high,85 degrees of vertical,the speeds were killer you could send it four foot air were easy for this ten year old unfortunately you could get much higher because the ceiling was in the way,hah ha,but for 1975 or 6 it was probably the biggest pipe just for skating ever built by a skate park for the public access bummer it only last till two days before I got my new 10×32Sims taperkick,new Indy trucks and yo yo wheels with German bearing,to shred too bad I was a couple days later missed the closing ceremonies,apparently so did my friend who was the manager,he got a phone call,new years day that said sorry but don't come to work tommorow we closed,insurance rates tripled,no body ever got hurt in this park it was bullshit it was just across the board,no challenge or nothing,no claims,140 dollar board and no park,poss on me as the English say...piece out I ain't bitter,naw not me....aoooiiiihhhh...

Nobody can really believe this happened if you lived in the 80s where would you see any of this footage it wasn’t on cable tv there wasn’t anywhere you could walk up and buy this video. Sadly these skaters aren’t easily remembered because they didn’t get any real exposure from media they really were a live act and that takes consistency. i see that showmanship here!
@cheekywun15 жыл бұрын
Street skating evolved from freestyle skating which was where a lot of the flip tricks come from. Also, the freestyle boards were much smaller and skinnier than the wide decks, much similar to what is around today. The shaped changed around the early 90's when ramp skating pretty much died and street skating took over.
@amind1317 Жыл бұрын
I never cared for any of the freestyle sections of skate videos in the 80's. I always thought that stuff was boring and too technical. Now all of skating has a major injection of boring technical tricks with balanced bigger freestyle boards. lol! I loved my 80's decks with big trucks and big wheels all unbalanced. those rigs were raw, agressive and fun to land tricks with.
