I always go up stairs using the last method. I found it the most easy and stable one to go up stairs on skates. For going down stairs I got used to parallel only.

HI SkatefreshAsha! How can your online students connect with you? There's no Q && A option on your course website.. Are there other options to interact with you (ask questions ..) - email, blog...etc?
@SkatefreshVideos

I reply to all my social media channel comments (eventually) as it's a lot of messages every day (up to 60 a day) so I can get a bit behind..... I offer Online Video Coaching as a way to privately teach people and assess their videos of the skills they are learning and improving. In future the new online courses I launch will come with an "after care" option. At the moment this isn't possible with the site Im currently using. But social media is the best place to try and reach me, it can just take some time as I am swamped by questions. Those who purchase an online course have more direct access to me via email.

I gotta ask. How come no one is using those skate heel breaks that come with the skates ? All youtubers ride without them. Is this a thing tied to shame, prestige or is it just in the way. Meaning...do the skate breaks get in the way ? For example going up/down the stairs while doing a crossover it seems to me like the heel break would be in the way. I'm kinda torn about this...should i keep the heel break on (i know several ways to stop on skates) or should i remove the heel break ? Currently i removed them coz i think i'd trip while riding of the side walk curb...maybe i'm mistaken ? Is it taboo to talk about the reason no one uses the heel break ? p.s. Love your vids, tnx for making them !
@AliceFujiKuro
@AliceFujiKuro 4 жыл бұрын
I know that a majority of youtubers take it off because it gets in the way of some tricks and transitions, I doubt it's because a heel break is tied to shame or prestige. If you have no reason to take it off, then don't. Later if it starts to get in the way you can just take it off :D
@Omidion
@Omidion 4 жыл бұрын
@@AliceFujiKuro So why don't they mention it at the start of the tutorial video ? This video for example is made for beginners and Asha doesn't mention "hey take off your heel break, it will get in the way". It's like not having a heel break is a given (of course the first thing you did is to take off your heel break and then started watching YT videos on "how to... inline skate").
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 4 жыл бұрын
Omidion, this is a great question and one of my favourite topics to talk about. I think ALL beginners should have a heel brake on their skates and learn to use it properly (so they can be comfortable at higher speeds AND control their speed and stop on down hill slopes. Then they should start learning other stopping methods (while keeping their brake on), those other stops should be the Plough Stop, T-Stop, Turn stops and Powerslide. My advice is ONLY REMOVE YOUR HEEL BRAKE when you have 3 other stops which work very well (in all situations, high speeds, down hill and emergency stops). Then you are safe to remove the heel brake. In my observation about 95% of all skaters choose NOT to do this and remove their heel brake often BEFORE their T-stop is good enough to stop them on the flat. This in my opinion is a serious mistake and puts the skater (and others around them) at unnecessary risk. The brake I think gets in the way doing slalom skating and I recommend dit is removed for slalom practice (where you are not on slopes and not going fast). But for everything else it can remain on. If when you are crossing over you bend properly your support leg (not the crossing skate but the other one) then the heel brake will pass infant of the other skate and not hit. On the steps you can choose the crossing behind method as a way of avoiding this. I don't wear a heel brake because the frames I use don't accept one. But all our beginner classes in Skatefresh the instructor is using a heel brake and teaching students to use one. I've made several videos about heel braking and I have some good quality full length video trainings available especially for beginners who can get immediate access for FREE by clicking on "Free Trial" on this page; inlineskatecourse.com/how-to-skate-beginner/ There is also a Free Heel Brake video training on this page absolutely FREE; inlineskatecourse.com/how-to-stop-beginner/ I hope these trainings help beginners even more than my KZfaq channel offerings. There are free trainings available for Intermediates and Advanced skaters on there too....

Skates for the freeskate doesn't has heel brake (hmm, maybe few models). I'm the very beginner, and I never used it - because I never had it ;). It's quite easy to learn L-STOP (T-STOP is on the ice skating I think), which is more efficient way to stop than using heel brake. Anyway, if you're beginner, as me, in my opinion, first you should learn how to fall, get up and stop (not using heel brake, even if you have one). Than you can try down hill ;) - SAFETY FIRST!

Bonecrusher... your wheels shouldn't be rolling anywhere when crossing over or under going up or down stairs?! If you 'V' your skates in any position they will roll. You must be doing that. Check and video yourself by a friend....

@@SkatefreshVideos Thanks Asha, I think it might also be possible when the steps are not exactly even? If that's the case, will going faster help so that you don't give them enough time to roll, and when you go faster you tend to have more friction.
@Bonecrusher27WTF
@Bonecrusher27WTF 4 жыл бұрын
@@gevgalstyan6577 Thanks Gev. Reason I asked about faster is I find if I go too slowly, that's when the skates have more time to roll.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 4 жыл бұрын
@@Bonecrusher27WTF I still need to confirm if you are talking about the walking up the stairs forwards? If so then yes, some momentum can help but I wouldn't call it "fast" as your feet and skates still have to move and going too fast will mean you can't move your feet fast enough to go up the stairs...... All the sideways methods stepping and crossing, you should be static and not rolling. Hope that makes sense. If you are rolling on the sideways methods then your skates are not parallel and that's what's creating movement. Keep them parallel.

I saw a young girl skater go up some stairs quicker than me with just trainers on! Isn't there another technique where you face forward the steps and place pressure of first wheel right in crux of step?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 2 жыл бұрын
There is a method of walking down steps facing forward but it's the most risky and I've seen many people fall using this method so I don't like to teach it unless Im there personally to do all the details and assist. Some things I don't like teaching on KZfaq which is always a quick summary of something and not the real deal Im afraid.

I've been lucky enough to be sponsored by Powerslide since 2011 and have worn their skates since then. They gift me a pair every 3-4 years which I wear non-stop and then change. Buying on the internet gives you the best range and choice but it's never as good as trying skates on if at all possible. Different brands have different 'fits' some wider or narrower than others etc. Good luck with your choices.

how tight your skate correctly? 🙏🏿
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 10 ай бұрын
You need to tie them tightly (but not to tight they hurt). You don't want your feet to move around inside the skate and you don't want your heel to lift up in the skate (that's what the lower ankle strap is designed to fix). The top ankle strap needs to be tight enough so that when you bend your knee the ankle is then supported by the top strap. If you are a beginner then I suggest you watch a more detailed video where I explain this in full. My @powerslidebrand Tau Trinity skates have 3x 110mm wheels which are pretty large and fast and top of the range. It might be better to go around the 200 euro mark for your first good pair of skates as you'll get something great. Try PS Next skate or similar and try on different brands to see which fit better. Good luck!
