It's heelflip rotation, & his back foot caused the rotation, so this is in fact a pressure flip. A really really nice pressure flip, but it is in fact a pressure flip non he less.

@@nedtempleton4873 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ptuardp_tqragnk.html This is a muska flip bro. Muska flip has a kickflip rotation. Jonnys flip did a heelflip rotation. If you remove the vertical part of the equation, muska would be an inward kickflip aka hardflip. Jonny here did a outward pressure heel aka pressure varial heel, but it's verticle. If muska did a fs180 with his muska flip it's a front side flip. Jonnys flip + fs180 doesn't equate to a front side flip, at all. If Johnny added a fa 180 to this it would be a fs heel pressure flip. Analyse closely. The muska flip and Johnny's flip are spinning in the opposite direction.

Hey Jonny, I understand what you are saying about the flip but to me a true hardflip is a front shove kick flip. Yes I prefer the 'real' way and i believe that is the only true hardflip. But its doesn't mean the flip in question isn't it's own trick. Look at muska fs flips and hardflips. They aren't frontside 180 kickflip. The reason for me is because the flip isn't generated from the front foot. It's an illusion. It's really a kind of pressure flip. Even when muska was big we had always called them illusion flips term I knew in the late 90s/early 2000s in Australia. Fs illusion/illusion hardflip. I dunno. I hope u understand what im tryna say. That's my opinion. We used the term a lot when doing them on transition. Maybe you can explain why it's not a type of pressure flip. I never really understood those in the sense that I couldn't do them but i could do most other flips. I always thought of the illusion 'rule' we had when doing nollie inward heel and hards because they roll over easy easy. Anyway. Love your skills man. Was always a fan of flips late shove and vice versa. You do them so well! Later.
@beanberg3 жыл бұрын
I think the difference is in the front foot. Front shove has foot stay over board, muska flip makes board do a vertical shove while front foot goes behind the board (between your legs), and a hardflip causes the board to actually flip so the front foot is already behind the board from the flick (board between legs)

True 'illusion flips' were named as such as they don't actually flip. The board turns slightly backside rather than frontside, but doesn't flip. It simply tweaks in the air and then falls back on itself - just a vertical pop shuv. Hence the 'illusion'. Some people did both FS flips and hardflips using this technique.

It's a very stylish pressure flip
@lawrencedamato1757 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your explanation; that is, he’s doing a backside pressure flip on the y-axis-which flips vertically, not horizontally. This demonstration, in the video, is not a late-1990s-style hardflip, also known as a ‘Muska Flip.’ To be a Muska flip, the graphic, as you mentioned, needs to be on the toe-side of the board while flipping (or folding) vertically on the y-axis.

When doing a hardflip, the graphic faces towards the front of your body. In this trick, his grip faced the front of his body. You can clearly see at 4:50 when he does a real hardflip that the graphic faced the camera but when he does the muska flip, the grip faced the camera. This is just like when you do a dolphin, the graphic will face in front of you but when doing a dolphin heel, the grip will face in front of you. There's no way to do a hardflip and have the grip not face in front. Its just not possible. Ok so after watching the video, at 6:34 if you slow down the video, you can see that the board begins to flip the opposite way that his foot would have flicked it if he went for an actual hardflip. Right after he pops, you can see the board begins to flip heel flip wise but since the board goes just slightly frontside because it's impossible to do a perfectly vertical trick, that means the board did less than half a heelflip and a front shuv, making this a regular frontside shuv that simply went between his legs. Its a really cool trick but it is NOT a hardflip. You can also compare his front shots of both tricks and see that in the hardlfip, the grip faces the right and in the muska flip, the grip faces the left.

Look at the hardflip at 4:33, the graphic faces outward from you, because it flips. Now look at the 'hardflip' at 6:20 , the graphic is facing behind you aka it doesn't flip, or 'flips' the opposite direction to the fs shuv. So i definitely would not call it a hard flip. I think my main point of contention on your hang ten one was actually the fact the shuv part of the hardflip is literally the wrong way. The shuv went nollie varial direction and not nollie hardflip direction.

The thing I'm looking is the direction the board flips. At 4:32 when he catches it, the board turns the heelflip way which is the normal rotation after the board spins 180°. But at 6:20 it would flip like a kickflip.

For a real muska flip, you gotta flick.
@MacLethal3 жыл бұрын
You know what? This actually IS a front shuv. I just sat with a fingerboard recreating it. My mind was completely confused. No, this isn’t a hard flip. It’s like a weird half pressure flip from the toes, but it doesn’t technically flip. It’s a very tweaked front shuv.

@@mrcakeslayer1264 a hard flip is a front shuv with a flip in it... not just a rocket front shuv! do a 180 with that trick and you have done a frontside 180, not a frontside flip

dude one of the older guys was like nice front shove and said it wasnt a hardflip. I died a bit inside and never did them after that. I grew up in that era and so of course i looked at muskas hardflips thought I was doing them right. This makes me feel good inside

Mr. Giger, Thank you so much for agreeing with me on hardflips. I also consider the vertical/Muska flip a hardflip. From my experience the way you get the Muska hardlflip over the other one is too much *OOMF* in your back foot. Transferring the focus of *OOMF* to your front foot/the flick will create the more traditional hardlfip. But I 100% agree the Muska flip feels a lot more natural. Sincerely A fan that is very happy to have just bought your pro model.

Hayyy Jonny!! Love the channel! Just started watching a few days ago.. i have lived this debate with friends for over 15yrs now.. my suggestion for you to show EVERYONE that it is indeed a hardflip without explanation! , is for you to film a couple of them with you coming straight toward the camera rather then a side view.. they will no doubt see that this is a hard flip!! End of debate! :D

Vertical hardflip would be a 180 vertical rotation and half *kickflip*, that would show us the board image, not the grip tape. What we see on a video is a vertical pressure varial heelflip or vertical pressure inward heelflip. The board shows grip tape, meaning this is half heelflip. Because the board also does vertical rotation, it is impossible to tell if this is varial or inward because there is no "front" or "back", it is vertical. And finally, there is no flick, so it is a pressure trick.

I'm so glad you made this video. This is how I hardflip, but my debate is whether it's flipping in the kickflip or heelflip direction. Now that I'm seeing it in slow mo I think it's actually heelflipping so maybe it's a super inverted varial heel? Either way it's super stylish. I've never thought it looked like a pop shuv, it's too cool to be that

@7:30 if anything it’s a pressure front heel varial illusion...the board doesn’t flip as if it was kick flipped, it flips towards the heel flip side ...the ones at the very end and the beginning were proper. back in the 90’s when Muska was doing the hard flips this way, the verticle way was the preferred way...but not exactly at 12 o clock vertical more like how you have it, between 1 and 2 o clock...

I do my frontside flip using a variation of this method, the toe is more in the backside of the board's pocket. If you have done it this way, you can for sure feel it's a hardflip. I literally only learnt frontside flips because I was trying to hardflip this way, and my body rotates to avoid credit cards.
