In early videos we bribed the Zamboni guy with beer and shot videos from around 1AM-3AM. Some videos we sneak on 30 minutes before pick-up hockey in the middle of the day and shoot a quick video. In other videos we just pay to rent the ice for an hour and shoot a handful of videos.

nice vid, when people get more confident they should learn mowhawk turns. ever thought on doing a vid on positional play? Just few basic tips on YOUR take on being a better Centre, winger & defender?

A cool trick the ole-two-niner (Phil Bourque) taught me is to use your stick like a leverage board. When an opposing player has the puck pinned against the boards with his feet, put your stick between him and the wall at waist height. Then you use your stick to pull him backwards. Once the player is off the puck drop your stick to the ice and sweep the puck away :)

Played competitive hockey thru my youth and teens, still skate 2-3 times a week and play once a week, im 45..still trying to learn different techniques.

It would be cool if you did a video on using the boards. For example, how to angle your stick to collect passes rung around the boards (say by a defenseman to a forward). Then of course you could show how way to ring that pass around as the defenseman. Another example could be how/when to use the boards as a winger to get by a pinching defenseman.

Does he lift his heel off the ice to do the one foot pivot? The leg he isn't pulling.

Can you please make a video about beginner skating for goalies? I am just beginning to play goalie and I got to a clinic but cannot skate well. I have all the equipment needed (including goalie skates) I currently do not play for a team but I would like to very soon. I am in the Bantam division. I have some experience with street hockey (playing goalie) but none at all with ice hockey. If you can post the video or give me some good tips asap that would be great and I would appreciate it. Hey Jeremy, anyway to get a closer up view of the feet and maybe in slower motion on both techniques? For instance, on ken's transition, does he go to the toe of the foot at all when he turns ? I'm guessing you have to be completely flat on the ice? or else, wont you catch an edge?

Good video, as usual. I find the Mohawk hard to do, as it feels unstable. I don't have very open hips which does not help. I have mastered something like your first turn, but a little different although I've seen others do the same as me. To rotate anti-clockwise, I adopt a good knee bend, stride forward, push out my right foot, then push down with the front inside edge on the right foot, while rotating it anti-clockwise. That foot now acts as an 'anchor' thanks to the inside edge, which allows me to rotate my body anti-clockwise. The right foot slides a bit, describing a horseshoe arc, whereas you (Ken) seem to do more of a pivot with the right foot not on either edge. I find my version very stable, and I can do it at high speed. Perhaps when I gain more skill I will get your version. Comments (positive, or otherwise) welcome. :)

thanks for this. I need to return to basics. I don't pivot to skate backwards, I do the more advanced way so my edges never leave the ice. But I've noticed lately My pivoting game is really weak when I need to transition different types of skating together. For example, my backwards skating is getting legit.. and I can mohawk like a mofo, even going is a straight line. But man.. Getting out of those positions back into forward is my weak spot! PIVOTING! more PIVOTING! PIVOTING@. lol 🤜🤛

i used inlineskates to practice these turns. my technique is much better now because with inliners youre forced to do it more properly.... if you catch an edge your a dead man :)
