I hit a pothole the other night. My board went forward, I went backwards and smacked my head on the pavement. I wear a triple 8 helmet and it legitimately saved me from a head injury lol The helmet was scratched up, but my head was fine. I've had loads of close calls without a helmet and that night just solidified my reason for wearing one. I'd rather look weird than not be able to skate ever again

Man, I'm 48, fat, and have no balance. I wear my helmet all the time. I don't care if you wear a dang Home Depot bucket on your head. There's nothing corny, or ugly, about self preservation. Loved the video! Also...that leopard print helmet is fire.

So Im a psychology student from Germany and this video reminds me of the "spotlight effect" which is a phenomenon of social psychology where we as humans tend to overestimate the amount of attention we get by others, especially when doing something very atypical. In conclusion, to not turn this into a lecture, a lot of people actually dont give a shit and worry about themselfes. And If they notice you, they mostly dont care or think negative about you! So thank you George for doing this and helping people to conquer their anxiety when wearing a helmet!

I wear all the pads because I'm old. There are times when I think "I can skip the pads today." But when I take a nice slam and have my pads and helmet on, I'm always glad I kept the pads on.

I just started skating again at 34 after almost 20 years not skating. I rock a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and especially wrist guards lmao. I am not fucking my wrists up. I'm even going to get thicker more supportive cup sole shoes and ditch the vans. Landing heavy on my feet or running down a tall quarter after bailing screws with my ankles and I'm not playing that game either. The older you get the less you care and the more you realize nobody else really cares either :D. I can cruise around and stop well enough to stay out of people's way and I always check around before going to do something. Just being self aware and courteous is all anyone wants at the skatepark.

My mom forced me to wear a helmet after I fell and hit my head... I insisted it was fine but she made me anyways. I was so glum because i skate on the streets and I was afraid that people would laugh at me. At first, I tried to cheer myself up by thinking: 'Hey, George Poulos wears a helmet too but he has 312k subscribers!'. It worked, but not for long. Fortunately as I street skated more and more, I realised nobody actually gives a damn. The adults are too busy being scared of my whizzing skateboard and the kids just... well, they're kids, so they gotta wear a helmet (and probably also full gear) too. Maybe there'll be that occasional "haha look at your head with a helmet on it", but I honestly don't really care much anymore. Thank you George Poulos for uploading this video and I hope other kids who wear helmets (willingly or not) will understand that IT'S FINE (what a long comment lol)

I started helemeting up before skating vert about a year ago and it motivated my friend to do the same. It helped both of us feel more confident and protected me from a few nasty dome shots. There’s nothing dorky about wanting to protect your brain. Shoutout Andy Anderson. 🙌 I also think the green one is a really good look for u!

i actually bought my helmet a few weeks ago and i got the lizzie armanto one cos i liked the color so much in your videos (and the lil print is so cute) and i feel so good and more safe when skating (i'm still very much a beginner too). sometimes it does feel a little unusual being the only one to put on a helmet but i still like it a lot better like this and yeah no one really cares :D

Day 1 of skating again i took a rough fall on my elbow and hip and got bloodied up. Im not one for elbow bads but i plan to get a helmet when i start hitting the park and upping the danger factor. In a weird way im proud of my scrapes and such because it reminds me of the challenges i push through. I usually will wear soccer guards on my shins though because they hide under pants easy and im not good at landing simple stuff yet. Just find your comfort level with the danger and send it

Back in the late 80's I started rock climbing, and by the mid 90s I was instructing and finally went full time as an instructor by 2000, at that time almost none of the high profile climbers used to wear helmets, and I didn't either except when I was working with groups. After moving on to more mountaineering type stuff where rock fall is significantly more common, I started wearing a helmet more often even when I was just at my local crag, and thankfully it has now become totally normal to wear a helmet while climbing. I've seen enough people get serious head injuries over the years and in some cases people being killed by falling rocks for my own personal safety and enjoyment of living without a life changing brain injury to be more important than making a fashion statement. The attitude of 'It won't happen to me' is fine, until it happens to you and then you spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair with someone else wiping your arse for you! ALWAYS wear a helmet when exposing yourself to risk of head injury!

Lol found this video while researching helmets as I try to re-learn how to inline. The premise threw me off a bit because the only skate park in my city requires a helmet AND knee/elbow pads! (Plus face guards for hockey). It’s randomly patrolled by park dept employees and if you don’t have the gear you get bounced out and can’t return until you pay a 50$ civil ticket! At first the skaters were all mad pissed about it but after a while they decided to just be happy about the public skate park they had been fighting for forever. Now you almost never see a skater in city limits without a helmet because it’s become the norm! 😅

i feel like all of the other protective gear like shinguards and gloves, potentially knee pads are more beneficial than a helmet depending on what you skate. like if you're just doing ledges whats the point but you could use the other gear all the time

I love protec as they do good stuff for a lot of extreme sports. I kinda wanna get one, it's a statement piece really. Only thing is I imagine it would get hot as balls with the ear coverings as well. With the shades it really suited you!

My excuse to not have a helmet is that it’s difficult to travel with but I really should just commit and get a helmet. I wear wrist guards every time tho because if I fall on my hands without I can’t skate for weeks so I’ve learned. I’ve never hit my head but I’m scared to learn the hard way. My wrist recover but my head might not 🥴

i wear a helmet when i skate and if we ever do something a little more dangerous I tell people to put one on and now alot of my friends own helmets which is a major win in my book cause if were about to do something we know is gonna make us fall alot then we all wear them.

Know what's sad? Started skating in the late 80's, but really decided it was something I wanted to commit to in 91. Tje whole scene was a big F-U to conformity. If you wore a helmet or not, so what. Sure, there were always those whom were to cool to wear them. Those "cool" people often stopped skating after their first concussion. Not because of the injury, but because they became believers of helmets, but darned not to be seen in them. Anyways, Skating back then = Corrosion Of Conformity Skating Nowadays All About Conformity A large part of skating been sold. in the 80's & 90's we had Vision, and they were the sell-outs, turned skating into a fashion trend. The birth of the poser, and the birth of the fashion trend. I can't say what the environment was like with helmets, but when people were committing to more risky things, I say way more helmets used. But nowadays, to flat out shun people (pros) because it doesn't fit the image, and then trickles down to the weekend warrior; I'll happily claim that skating has been sold. Image & Conformity. example: When those huge awful baggy pants became the fashion trend.. There were many pro skaters getting denied because they would NOT wear those damn overly baggy pants. Wear the helmet, even if it has a giant penis on it, and if anyone says anything, then you know the type of category they fall into, then give them 2 middle fingers, and if necessary, make them eat a Venture! 😁 I liked your vid sir!!
