You can check out the HockeyShot Revolution Synthetic Ice Tiles here:
www.hockeyshot.ca/Revolution-...
One big point I forgot to mention is that they are UV protected and weather resistant to withstand outdoor cold and heat! I really enjoyed my time on here and can't wait to get out there again. It's a nice break from the ice to be able to train in t shirt and shorts and still get a solid skill workout in!

They’re not that expensive if you only get like twenty or so tiles. You still have plenty of room to work on dangles, turns, and shooting. It’s still way cheaper than registration for hockey. It comes down to a few hundred bucks which is way cheaper and more practical with how much space it takes up than Pav’s pro setup. Love the video, man; it was so helpful when I was doing research trying to find the best synthetic surface to invest in for my basement!

looks like he has 18 tiles (w) X 18 tiles (L), and assuming each tile is 18 inches by 18 inches, the total area is 27 feet by 27 feet (18"x18"/12'= total 27 feet W&L). If each tile costs $10 (they range from $12 - $16), then total cost of tiles for this "rink" is $3,240, not cheap

Pavel - can you comment on the hollow that you use on your skate blades on synthetic vs ice? Do you go to a more shallow hollow to give you better faster glide (but then sharpen more frequently) or deeper hollow to give you more bite on the tile and hopefully a little more time between sharpening’s when you skate on synthetic or no change at all on the hollow that you choose for consistency? Also I’m wondering if you change to a different runner from ice to synthetic tiles (meaning keep a set of steel just for ice and one just for tiles) and how much of a difference it makes since people tend to think you need more effort to skate synthetic than ice? Thanks again for your feedback!!

Hey Pavel - can you comment on how it feels to skate over the places where the tiles connect together? Do you feel or notice those groves at all - under your blades? Have you ever noticed any of your edges catching on them when you're turning or trying to stop? I know they look like they connect pretty well together and from what I can tell they match up flush on the surface. Also from your video it looks pretty smooth so just curious if you you noticed it at all. Thanks!

Good question. No you do not notice the seams at all where they connect. Just ensure you smooth them out properly. A good test is to run your stick blade over it and make sure it doesn't stop or bump.

It depends on what I'm working on - however I prefer roller if I have the right surface. I love having a lot of space to work, and being able to be in the sun and gather more speed to challenge myself with. The only think I don't like with roller is there's a few edge work drills I can't accurately work on so that's where synthetic comes in.

I have a 22' x 22' area in my garage I'd like to cover. Says I'd need 225 tiles. They "discount" the pieces to $13.95 if you're over 200 tiles. I'm still at $3138! That's crazy. These are still just way too damn expensive. Better to buy some freaking inline skates - the resistance is similar to the drag/resistance on these tiles (probably less actually, but skates are a bit heavier, so likely equals out comparing the two), the inline skates can be used on more than just your really expensive floor, the inline skates don't need to be sharpened. I've been told you will need to sharpen VERY frequently if you use synthetic ice tiles, as they completely dull your skates in as little as two small skating sessions. Put the price of putting these tiles in and needed a dedicated space for them up against inline skates being able to be used practically anywhere... I'm gonna stick with inline skates. Now if these tiles dropped to $8 a tile, I could get onboard with that. That would still be $1800, but only then would I start considering it. $3100...lol - sheeesh. :/

No it is not... I was a professional figure skater and these are much better for hockey players. I have skated on synthetic ice many times and never had issues on whatever kind we used with Disney On Ice. But this is just not the same kind of quality as we used in the ice shows. My son is 9 and he has no issues. He does great actually. You would need a lubrication spray to keep them slicker. I am going to contact the company to ask them what kind of lubricating product they recommend and if you can use one on these tiles. I hope that is all I will need to feel more comfortable skating on these. Just my opinion.

@@evab4794 I was a professional figure skater, and I do not recommend these at all for figure skaters. For hockey players, they are fine. My 9 year old son has zero issues, but I can't even hold an outside edge well and backward skating is like a joke. I tried to do simple outside 3 turns, and about bit the dust. It takes practice of course, but I would not get these unless you plan to get a lubrication spray to use on them. That is what I hope to get and use because for now, I don't enjoy skating on these at all. Without the lubrication spray, figure skating is just not at all the same. You cannot do any kind of toe jumps... so no toe loops, flips or lutzes on this. But you could do your edge jumps. I hope this helps!
