The first time I saw Skating Polly was at the Entry. Great bill with a bunch of other local bands that you can see there often.

It's based on a graphic novel series and the movie itself has a lot of video game-esque elements but the music and story are more indie movie coming-of-age/romcom/angst than anything else. Probably it's more of a cult classic than a universally loved thing. But the soundtrack's been praised a lot - features Broken Social Scene, Metric, Black Lips, you get the idea.

Sure do count myself lucky to be still around to discover good music like this group put out. Wouldn't be dead for anything as long as new and great sounds are being released. Then I listened to the other two songs on the album. And I thought "My god. That was amazing. The whole thing was great." I'm a fan.

Raul, I'm guessing your referring to Peyton Bighorse. I saw them for the first time May 1st 2019 in St. Louis, leading up to that time, most of the video I've seen of Skating Polly featured Kelly, who is indeed very talented. The biggest surprise at the concert though, was the sensational "rock and roll" voice of Peyton. When Peyton belted out "Free Will at Ease" it just about floored me and it became crystal clear what she really means to that band. R.U.

Peyton is a goddess still growing into her wings. I can't wait to see where Skating Polly is in another 10 years.

@WeirdPlanet108 I find that Fuzz Steilacoom is an acquired taste, but it was a necessary evolutionary change. I like Make It All Show. It was their first album with Kurtis. After touring for a bit I imagine they are all on the same page and the next album will be amazing. I hope he gets to sing on a couple tracks. I really love The Big Fit. I have noticed from live shows posted on here that Peyton's vocals are stronger and more confident. I think that is the album where she found her voice. The performances in 2018 and 2019 she is much softer when she is backing Kelli, almost to the point of not hearing her. I really like all the tracks on the current album. I am really hoping she sings "Don't Leave Me Gravity" live tonight at their 10th anniversary show. I think some early fans might not like Make It All Show because its more radio friendly, but if they want to headline venues larger than 500 people they need more radio play. I'm disappointed that the alternative radio station in Seattle doesn't play their music, despite recognizing they are a great band. The Seattle music scene is wide and deep, so getting tapped to be part of the stations Summer Music Fest is a big deal. At what point do you stop being a local band? Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Deathcab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, The Head and the Heart, and The Presidents of the United States of America were all local Seattle local bands at one point. It wasn't until I heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in new York before I realized Nirvana wasn't just a Seattle band.

Not to take too bold a stance, but fuck Come On Pilgrim. I'm tired of hearing about it. If it had the BBC version of Caribou and a different River Euphrates (specifically the b-side version) instead of a different Vamos, it would be almost as good as any Pixies album not called Doolittle. As for Skating Polly, OP pretty much called it. Between New Trick and The Make It All Show, they certainly sound like a talented band peaking. But on their 10th anniversary recently they tweeted they're just getting started...and I choose to baleeve!

I think we can all agree that Pilgrim and Doolittle are both amazing, they started producing shite after Doolittle, with the exception of a few classics like Diggin' for Fire or Alec Eiffel. And U-Mass isn't so bad, and Velouria, oh shit!-When did I start enjoying their other albums!?
