"How could I have forgotten... You."

What I remember more than anything else was the sky. The cold, swirling shades of blue, ever-present and constantly in motion. I remember how the patterns twisted and turned in waves of celestial pigment, diffusing the moonlight into an icy, ethereal glow over the landscape. For a long time, the sky was the only thing that ever changed, and because of that, I used to hate the sky. For a long time, all I knew were mountains and valleys and the snow that covered them all, leaving nothing but identical black-and-white landscapes and the constant swirling sky. I don't remember why I was travelling, and by then it didn't matter whether I was escaping an old life or searching for a new one. What mattered was the endless journey, and the long-forgotten memories hiding at the edges of my mind. They would come when I didn't have anything else to focus on, an occurrence that came all too frequently, when I was resting or staring at the sky. Fragmented memories of a time long past, memories of warmth and a long-lost embrace. Memories of home, whatever that meant. They always left me longing for something I didn't know I'd lost. The sky made me remember, and because of that, I used to hate the sky. I don't know how long I travelled, trudging through endless snow under an infinite sky, but eventually, long after I lost track of time, something changed. After an eternity of myself and the sky sharing the only movement in the world, by some miracle, it started to snow. It was light and soft, large snowflakes drifting lazily down through the still air, glimmering in the cold light. It was movement other than the sky, and more importantly it was change, something I'd never seen for what felt like eternity. It wasn't long after the snow started falling that I finally found what I was looking for, or perhaps what I had set out to escape. A lonely building, standing out as a stark grey form unmoving against the sky's unceasing waves. When I saw it I remembered, if only for a brief moment, everything I used to faintly recall when staring at the sky. I remembered the grass that used to grow there, the leaves that used to cover the trees. I remembered what was once a warm lantern that now hung dark and cold by the door. I remembered the warm embrace that once lived here. I remembered the feeling of returning home after a long journey, and I remembered long nights sitting on the hill outside and watching the sky. For better or for worse, my endless journey had, impossibly, found its end. As I stood there, speechless, looking at the building in front of me, I realized that it was now just as colourless as everything else. And despite the old, familiar longing tugging towards the old, empty building, I couldn't bear to come any closer to it. So I turned and left, travelling as I did before, letting the memories of what I'd lost drift away once again. Eventually, somehow, the mountains around me got smaller, and the snow thinner, but I kept going. The mountains turned to hills, and the snow slowly turned to softly rippling waves of grass, but I kept moving forwards. Eventually, I had left everything behind. The mountains, the snow, the memories... and the swirling, ethereal pigment of the sky. I used to hate the sky, but I remember it over everything else. Because the sky was beautiful. (I'm honestly not quite sure what I just wrote, or if there's any message to it. It's probably incoherent nonsense, but I wasted 10 minutes writing it and the sunk cost fallacy has kicked in, so I'm leaving it here.)

I really REALLY love this one. It’s just so calming to me. It feels like I’m sitting in a snowy forest, alone and finally at peace, but the peace had a cost that leaves me feeling melancholy. It’s like a final end to life’s pains and hardships, a final crescendo to everything. A final moment of peace, eternalized in snow and ice.

Like I said, I haven't felt a piece like this since Sketch 26, and it may just knock it off the podium as my favorite. I just gotta listen to it a million times. It makes me think of a convoy trekking through snow-covered mountains, looking for a new hope. Maybe even a little reminiscent of Frostpunk. Now that I said it if you ever needed inspiration maybe take it from Frostpunk's ost? It was an experience listening to some of the more dramatic songs while playing it.

I think Rush already did get the OST as inspiration for a previous sketch. #25. At the very least, the commissioner said they sent it to give an idea of what they wanted the music to sound like.

The cold wind blew against my face as I treaded on to a place long forgotten. Cresting over the horizon, its familiar form manifested. The skyline of white covered trees broken up by the various buildings and streets. A place I knew. Home. I stood in the ashes of what was, walking in spaces untread for many years, the familiarity of the form betrayed by the deafening silence. I swore I would never return to this place, yet here I was, drawn once more. Perhaps it was necessary. Perhaps I needed to face what was in order to see what could be. As I walked through the empty streets, I saw a swing set, its faded colors and warped form--broken--a crater where the other half used to be. The silence broke. Echoes of a bygone era, all flooding in at once. A warm smile. Laughter. A loving embrace. Flames. Fire. Burning. The ashes of what was.

AhhhhhHHHhhHhhhh okay so I knew this was a Dark Souls inspired piece, even before I played the first game just from the art alone, but I went "well why not" and listened to it regardless and ahhhhhh I loved and love it so much! Now that I have finished the first game for the first time and visited the Painted World of Ariamis, I found myself gravitating back here (I mean, this one is part of my personal playlist of your works) and I just realized how much the vocals echo the actual vocals in Priscilla's theme, never mind that the description of your video mirrors what Priscilla says to you. I'm so glad that I get to basically experience this track twice XD

This song was able to inspire the most pure dread in me, I had accidently corrupted my Minecraft world that I had been working on for the past year. 4:55 hit right as I got back to what was left of my base... A bunch of paintings floating on nothing, on top of a hill in complete darkness.

This is up there with my favorites of yours incredibly easily. Sketches 20 and 23, the Hollow Knight and Celeste orchestrations; this one is with them all. I adore your work, Rush. Your songs never fail to disappoint. That's why I would like to personally toss you the idea of making a Oneshot orchestration. It's such a cute little game with so many good motifs, I'm sure you could do it better than anybody else. Other than my (probably bound to be discarded) request, keep up the work you do oh so very well :)

Sometimes this reminds me of death. Being cold, alone, full of regrets hoping that anything I did or tried to do no matter how small made some sort of impact or mattered to someone. And as darkness creeps in I ask one last time that if one day I'm given a new chance a new life that I can take a different path this time, one that didn't end the way this one did.
