I am trying something new today. I was sitting down to sketch and thought I would record while I was playing. I hope this helps you not only get some good ideas for drawing dragon wings but also see how other artists use their sketchbooks.

FAQ:
Q:What penci, paper, pen (etc) do you use?
A: I generally use a 2b drawing pencil and artist sketch paper, sometimes Bristol. Check out my Art Supplies video for more information. • Drawing Supplies
Q: How do you record your videos?
A: I use a Sony Handycam HD to record my videos and Adobe Elements Premier for editing
Q: Can I send you mail?
A: Yes! Make sure you check that the correct postage is on the envelope or it won't make it to me.
Q: Will you write me back?
A: If you include a self-addressed stamped envelope, I will reply back to you! :)
Q: Can you draw a picture of my dog. horse, cat, Mother (Etc)
A: Unfortunately, I am unable to take personal requests. If you are interested in purchasing a commissioned drawing from me, send me a message for more information.
Q: How can I get better at drawing?
A: The biggest thing you can do is keep drawing! Never give up.

I love doing private studies in my sketchbook, and then just evolving the art until I have a finished piece! I could begin my study with something so small or simple, and eventual I while have this beautiful finished artwork!

Thank you so much for taking the time to teach, In just three days of just watching your videos my coloring has looked amazing ,I finally feel I have improved and I had given up on drawing and coloring over the years because I was unhappy until today I finished three drawings and colored!!! Take it I spend hours coping the same pose and coloring the same thing. And I take 30 mins or more to practice drawing everyday this whole year. You don't know how happy I am to find your videos. I feel like I'm closer to my goal. Thank you. Thank you! You are an amazing teacher!!

I really enjoyed this video. I'm too much of s perfectionist when it comes to my drawing and being shown how to sketch and just relax with drawing will help me. BTW: As a leftie, I draw with my book upside down so the spiral spine is on the right. It's amazing how many people think that I'm just being awkward or "artistic". Once again, thanks for this video.

I have that same sketch book! but mine is purple. I got it to practice things im not used to drawing, and right away, after i got the sketchbook, i went strait to your how-to-draw playlist and began drawing and practicing! I now am better at drawing animals and other stuff i never really draw! Thanks Valerie for your videos, they help me a lot!

This video really helped me. In a story I'm creating there is an animal that is part dragon and part horse, and the wings have been really hard for me to draw. I think you should make more of these kids of videos, I really liked it!!! Thank you so much for all of your drawing videos, they help me so much :D

Hey Valerie! I remember watching the "How to draw a dragon" video years ago, you give me inspiration every time I need it. I've got a little tip for you: if you put a little piece of paper (like a paper tissue) under the hand you're drawing with, the colour will not spread :)

I'm writing a book (I know, so exciting right!) and adding a few illustrations here and there, about this species of human like creatures with dragonish wings. I already decided what the wings are going to look like, but this was helpful anyways.

I'm so excited for this series!! Already I love your copic work--I'm getting some for Christmas and can't wait to follow along! I'm just starting to get back into art. I was pretty good with sketches and paints in middle school but stopped so I could focus on high school and college, and now I get nervous every time I try drawing because they turn out awful, so I've never let myself try again. ;^; any advice for overcoming that hump and becoming less of a perfectionist as I learn again?

+TheCaptainJade Tell yourself that just like "baking a cake" is a step in making a cake...so messing up a drawing is an important spet in learning art. You can't skip it,. It is your greatest teacher, to learn what doesn't work.

I thought I had a great name for the series until I read some of the ones others offered, now I like some of them better. I was thinking about using the work "inspiring" in the title, like 'Inspiring Sketches" or "Sketching my Inspirations".

I use led pencils they are a little darker when i try to sketch, but it makaes my drawing good. :3

Those are a bats fingers and arm. As they evolved the hand gradually grew more and more like that until modern bats.

I love your videos; you always remind us to relax and let sketches be, well, sketches. Do you have any advice for someone (cough, cough, me) who doesn't like leaving things alone, who always goes back and adds onto one little sketch? It leaves these people (me) feeling exhausted.

Only advice is that you aren't alone in that... I constantly go back to my drawings and fix little things. I do it less now than I did before. So maybe there is hope... Maybe not... 😀

I know it is very cartoony, but I still want it to have realistic features. I'm having trouble figuring out how to do the wing anatomy with the way they look. How would you suggest I improve them?
