A gem in San Diego library is "Birds in Flight". The wonderful photos were taken at an angle we rarely see in print. Good Luck!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful sketchbook. I haven’t read all the comments so maybe this has been recommended already, but the best bird drawing book I’ve found is by Natalia Balo.

Hello and thank you for sharing your wonderful nature journal! I wish I had started when I was younger! I have been journaling for a few years but I'm old and gray now and I do not have any formal art training - just on-line & youtube. But I guess it's never too late! I liked & subscribed.

John Muir Laws has a few books that may help you out as far as drawing birds and other things. There is The Laws Guide to DRAWING BIRDS and THE LAWS GUIDE TO NATURE DRAWING and JOURNALING. I like nature drawing and journaling also ;)

wonderful work. At age 67 I am new to drawing and painting and since I have always felt at home in the natural world, that has been my focus. Your videos are a nice component to my education that I am gleaning from you generous artists. I also follow John Muir Laws and James Gurney's books and videos. James has a background of professional illustration work for science oriented publications such as National Geograhic (and is well known by all ages for his fantasy book Dinotopia)and if you have not followed him you may want to watch a few of his videos. John Laws has lots of info on drawing birds based on anatomical studies, actually James Gurney's approach is similar as he makes model replicas of creatures before he attempts to draw and paint them as demonstrated in his video on preparations for creating the dinosaur stamp series for Australia . Your videos are also valuable in teaching this old woman who has a high regard for creativity as well as science. Thanks for sharing your time and talent.

I'm honoured to be included in your list along with James Gurney and John Muir Laws! I also own all their books, they are incredibly skilled artists and both very good at explaining art concepts in a clear way.

This is such a treasure, thank you for sharing it (with your narration). I liked seeing the Green Apatite value study...and the Robin project of course :). Not for technical/art instruction reasons, but I love Lesley the Bird Nerd's channel.

I love the Alpha paper, for dry media and light washes...but not Zeta for my needs with watercolor. I find the paper doesn’t absorb very well, though I think it is great for pen and ink.

You can do it, I believe in you! It's hard to push past the self doubt and feeling like you've "ruined" a sketchbook, but the truth is when they're all filled up they always look better, even though many of the individual sketches may not be something you are proud of (which is great, that's why sketchbooks exist, after all!)

Lee Angold I started one yesterday (again!), setting an intention to finish it! Thanks for the livestream...and what a nice group of folks! I didn’t get a notification (all are turned on so hmm), still better late than never 😉

Looks so good, Im really bad at keeping a sketchbook, I have several but struggle what to fill it with, I feel that I'm usually disappointed by what I put in there
@LeeAngold

I totally understand that! I had not filled a sketchbook front to back until 2 years ago (so no rush, you've got another couple years at least to match my 'first sketchbook' age!). I think it's really valuable to push through that self-consciousness and use/abuse sketchbooks regularly. I definitely don't love all of the individual sketches in my sketchbooks. My smaller everyday sketchbooks especially tend to contain lots of pages of scribbles and bad ideas and failed experiments. However, somehow they all look more presentable once the sketchbook is filled. Also, although I try to see the value in even rough/deeply flawed sketches, I'm not above pasting over or reworking pages that really bother me, particularly if it's something like a bunch of ink blobs from testing pen nibs or a sketch I abandoned after a few minutes ;)
