Hi Paul, thank you, thank you, thank you for these tutorials. I have tried to use SketchUp for several years and got nowhere. I think part of the problem was many years ago I used AutoCad and I kept automatically thinking in AutoCad mode. The way I found you was I was trying to change the dimensions of a rectangle and you made it so abundantly clear, decide position and dimensions before you start because, although dimensions can be changed later, it is a lot of work if you can avoid it from the beginning. Your motto the tape measure is your friend has changed everything for me. I sketch out a lot of things with the tape measure first to decide how I want it. I have been trying to design a kitchen for anew house so it can be priced and your first few tutorials have enabled me to do it. And I'm have a great time doing it! Thank you again!

I have watched several Sketchup tutorials to learn how to use it, but the instruction didn't explain the details of what was happening so when I went off on my own project, I got lost from the very beginning. Your instruction re-enforces the basic principles, so I understand them. I'll continue watching all of these tutorials.

Thank you so much for teaching with so much patience!! I really like it that i can see you. It's really like being in a classroom, much more personal, even though you cannot see us. Im a starting interiordesigner that can already draw by hand but now im going to school to learn the architectural side of it with includes computer, with im scared of. The teacher in our class is good but he goes to quick for me. Im grateful that i found you, you explain all those vital details from which the teacher assumes all students already know..It took me a whole day to learn your first two tutorials but its so great that i understand now a bit. I will go on tomorrow with tutorial 3 and the rest! Thank you, greetings from R from the Netherlands.

I am Mahmood Karim from Bahrain, and just came across sketch up software 4 days ago so I viewed many sketch up you tube videos but non was as precise on positioning and dimensioning, and explaining different methods of plotting and copying as yours. Thank you Paul, your instructions are much better thank Sketch Up Tutorial series. Are you planning to cover the whole functions of sketch up ? . Thank you again Sir.

The series continues until sketchup will not do what I want and then I get into Fusion 360 for the next series. It is best to learn fusion first.

Very nice and detailed instruction Paul. I was wondering... It appears that SketchUp solids are sheet/facet based. Is that true, or are we creating actual solids by defining the outer sheets/faces? Thanks for this series, looking forward to the next one.

I think we are making hollow objects. When I export stl, it does work right with a 3D printer. The inside is filled with honeycomb filling.

My only criticism is your usage of the word "pop". The proper term is "snap". Items snap to points, or is that the term Sketchup uses?

Hey Paul TY for the tutorials... I wanted to create a model in 3D but all my measurements are all less than 7” do I have to model everything in FEET first then shrink it? Then how to I know that it will be the same size when I print them on the 3D printer? TY

I have a few questions, why would you not draw at the origin then just move the completed box to the new location? (this is what i do). Also i see why you had to move to Fusion, "drawing" a box means its not a solid object, if you have Extruded the 5,5 base up 5 feet it would have been a solid cube that was printable

You created the cubes in different ways to show us how to use the controls. I thought of another way you might be able to do it. Could you draw the floor of the cube, then copy it and rotate it on its edge to make each wall? Like the wall had fallen over and you have to stand it up again. I don't know if this is possible, just an idea.

@paulmcwhorter

You must change the dimension immediately after creating the object. Type something like 5',5'. Make sure you are working in feet and inches by the template you select when starting the program.
