Ok, So today let's start with Sketchup.
SketchUp is a 3D modeling computer program for a wide range of drawing applications such as architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, civil and mechanical engineering, film and video game design. There are 3 versions to select from. 1. The web based version, SketchUp Free, a freeware version, SketchUp Make, and Sketchup pro, which is a paid version with additional functionality.
First of all let's open the software, in my case I will be using Sketchup Pro 2019, with the additional options offered.
GETTING STARTED
As soon as you open the software, The Welcome to Sketchup dialog box will appear. This is your first step to creating a model and this box appears everytime you start the software.
CHOOSE A TEMPLATE
Here in box you will choose your template to begin.
We have several options:
1. Simple : which is based on Imperial Measurements, Feet and
Inches
2. Architectural Inches
3. Simple: This one is based on Metric Measurements.
4. And three more Metric Architectural Templates
Let's begin with The Simple Template.
LET’S EXPLORE THE SKETCHUP INTERFACE

The Title Bar:
In this bar you will find the basic, standard controls: maximize, minimize, close. The sketchup logo, the name of your current job and the sketchup version your using.
The Menu Bar: Similar to other software, here is where you will find the majority of the sketchup tools and commands. We can also find the settings in the menu bar. We see: File, Edit, View, Camera, Draw, Tools, Window, Extensions and Help.
The Upper Toolbar:
By default, Sketchup loads these basic tools necessary to begin your model called, Getting Started.
The Drawing Window:
This is your main space to create your model. In this space we can find the drawing axes, which lets you now the sense of direction in this vast infinite 3d space.
The Status Bar:
Here you will find a step by step guide for the command selected. At the far right you will also find a Measurements Box for a more accurate 3d model.
The Default Tray:
Located on the right side of the screen. Here you will find the Entity Info window, Materials, Components, Styles, amongst others.
For Additional help you can select Window and the look for Instructor. The instructor helps you with any tool, it displays a short animation that shows the basic use of the selected tool.
