I got Sketch up to design the timber framing for a campervan. This tutorial showed m things that would have taken months to discover. Thanks from Australia.

You know Coach, you excused yourself for the video being a bit long BUT for us BEGINNERS we are hanging on each word and every movement you make and time for us FLYS. So I say for all the hot shots out there, be cool for at one time you were like us trying our best to understand programing language. OK? You, Coach, are doing a GREAT job helping us beginners. Thank You from all of us.

I really appreciate these instructional video where I can mimic in a second window. Really helps to reinforce the process. The pace is awesome as I can always pause but it is more work to try and jump ahead when an instructor goes too slow. Thanks very much.

Great collection of tutorials. I enjoy the speed and content. I have my computer screens split so I can 'play along' trying to copy what you do, pausing if needed. Your easy explanations make them easy to follow. Thanks for taking the time to upload these videos.

Outstanding! This whole concept of groups and components was confusing to me, but you have cleared up a great deal! Don't worry about going too fast - a person can re-run the video multiple times; far better than plodding along! One stumbling block I have had is how to move two objects together so that their faces end up coplanar. I am sure there is a simple trick, but haven't hit on it yet.
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 6 жыл бұрын
Usually your best bet to get objects coplanar is to use inferencing - move objects along on the the axes and hold the shift key to lock to those axes. Then you can just mouse over the object you're trying to align. Hope that made a bit of sense. Thanks!

Very good video. Not so much about woodworking per se until the end but you gave a lot of needed basic fundamentals. I am a hobby-ist woodworker and I make a lot of things in my head, along with a rough drawing on graph paper and subsequently I make a lot of mistakes. I want to learn SketchUp so I can do a better job of creating plans before I cut that first piece of wood. Like I just made a flag case and I based it off of 3 different plans. So I want to make SketchUp plans so if I am asked in 2-3 months or so to make another one, I will have detailed plans to go on. I know, boring and TMI for a comment. In other words, this is providing me with a great foundation. Thank you and I will be watching more of your videos.

Great series of vids man. I am learning sketchup now simply because I am becoming more and more of a believer in computerizing everything. It is making my life easier in terms of cleanliness and organization. The question that I have is if I wanted to create a starburst table top, I could make say, a 16 sided cylinder. Can I show the center of the top face and have lines automatically drawn to the center from each outside face of that cylinder?

I had the same issue, but found the O (orbit) and H (pan) tools to change camera view. Then space to reset to the pointer. Would have been handy to know this earlier. I'm sure there are other good tricks too.

I should also have mentioned that holding down the middle mouse button also activates orbit function, then release to deactivate. This is the quickest way to change camera position without using the keyboard.

I make model cars (out of wood). It would be helpful to create the model in sketch-up before I make it. I am a beginner and watched a lot of beginner videos. None of them, so far, deal with adding a curved line to a flat box, counter sinking holes, edge rounding and 45 degreeing. like your videos. will keep searching.

Love the vids...seem to get lost in my projects when they get more detail...unsure what the different reference points ( on edge, on face, endpoint etc) mean when referencing a new object. Think I need a sketch up command basic video....Sometimes I don't know how to tell Sketch op which plane I want to move in or build in.
