FAQs
1. Do you still ride for RVL8?
Yes! Meet the rest of the Pro Riders here
www.rvl8skiboards.com/team.html
2. I am 200+ lbs. Can I still ride?
Yes! Like I stated in the video, KTPs would be a great option. You will want a stiffer board like those and most likely non-release bindings.
3. No poles? Can I use them?
NO POLES! lol but yes you could use them if you really want but that defeats the purpose and freedom of riding Skiboards in the first place. Learn how to push and use your edges and you will never pick up a pair of poles again.
4. Is it like rollerblading?
Similar in the skating movements but other than that it is closer to skiing than anything else.

Thanks so much for putting together the differences. I've had such fun on my snowblades over the years, and the few times I saw actual ski boards I just yearned for them. Knowing the differences are more than just size has me convinced, I'm going hunting for a new setup!

Great explanation, Talon. Thanks for helping keep the sport alive! I started with Snowblades. I don't regret a thing. Rode them one season then got some 89cm MNP's (conehead model) in 1998. A few years ago, I picked up some DLP's. Now I've started collecting skiboards so I can start my friends on something a little better than the Snowblades. That said, those little Solomons put in some work converting my friends to skiboarding. Theres a lot to be said for the easy adjustability of the Snowblade binding.

Thank you for sharing this! Just finished up at Bear Mountain & I was the only one out there with skiboards. I have Line Weapons. I dusted them off after 20+ years & they were perfect after a fresh wax. I had a blast! The non-release bindings can be scary after a fall. I ran into my daughter’s snowboard after she fell, I wiped out & thankfully didn’t hurt my leg too bad. Kept going! I’ll share my GoPro footage soon.

Thanks for the content, super helpful. I had no desire to ski and being old AF and really didn’t want to try snowboarding again (been 20 years or so). Grabbed a used set of beaters and there was almost no learning curve to a day of enjoyment on groomed slopes. I’ve been ice skating for over 30 years so guessing that’s why it felt so natural. But never would have gotten a pair of boards without this video.

Glad I came across your video! It’s been a long time since I’ve skied and I’m not as limber as I used to be so I got a used set of snow blades, mainly because they are shorter and easier to maneuver on. I bought my skiboards with the snowboard bindings. I got them for comfort more than anything else and I already have snowboarding boots. Talon, was this a mistake? I've used long skis and I've gone snowboarding, and I hated and failed at both. I kinda found my niche in the skiboard / snowblade world. I'm still using the same Snow Jam 75cm boards I purchased 15 years ago. I believe these are far better than the crappy Solomans you mentioned though. Question? I find that my feet and ankles seem to hurt a bit more with skiboards, do you think that is a length issue or a boot issue? My thought is that a longer ski might distribute weight more evenly but i don't know! Had my Spliff's for a couple of years and can't quite get comfortable.

Since i don't Ski or Snowboard (only Snowbiking) i was wondering what i should try next. Snowboarding i tried, but i don't like the way how you are bound to the board. I dig the snow boards! I ski a pair of short skis... Head Salamander 94cm with rental bindings... I helped coach snowboarding and skiing for a few year and these were helpful to skate up hill without ski poles to aid beginners,... but now I like skiing with them more than my board or long skis. Sooo much fun in the park and in the tree trails. Mine are not wide enough for the powder though so I need some snow boards! 😁 What are a good pair for groomed trails and some powder, still good for the park though?. I'm about 148 lbs.. maybe 156 to 160 with gear. Great video BTW. Thanks

Thanks for this! Any thoughts on Summit boards for release bindings without needing a riser? Tried Twoowt?
@TalonSei
@TalonSei 2 жыл бұрын
People will tell you different things but I would never recommend direct mounting non release bindings to Skiboards. They are too short to give proper flex so if you want non release I’d recommend risers for sure

@@TalonSei Really appreciate the help, thank you. Shame the risers cost more than the boards...

Just picked up my old Groove Taxis from my mom's house. I'm going to be launching them with my speed wing. Great video. I've still got two pairs of Groove taxis, sadly I snapped my Groove Invertigos in half. Sold my old Salomon snowblades, since they're lame. There's a pair of old Canons on my local FB marketplace for $80 that I'm tempted to pick up.

What if I only ski groomers and I only ski a couple times a year? I am a total noob, I like skiing short skis anyway. Would ski blades work for me? I am looking for something inexpensive.

Hey Talon, I have the Rockered Condors but thinking about adding the Revolt or the Sticky Icky to my quiver for cruising groomers. Can you tell me the comparisons and differences between them?
@TalonSei
@TalonSei 3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t ridden the stickies so Skiboards online would be your best bet for a comparison. I love the revolts on groomers. They are one of the most all around boards.

How aggressive are you? If you're big and aggressive (knees bent, going fast, carving hard) then the Revolt. If you're lighter, more relaxed and upright in your stance then the more narrow Sticky.

Does rvl8 make a modern ktp? Looking to buy a new set of boards I am riding a pair of snowjams 75cm and I want something wider and longer for deeper pow but mostly all around the mountain riding

@@TalonSei well, not every year but typically every other. It's been two seasons now but that's because the BluntXL and Spliff have been taking sales away from the KTP but it's due for a refresh next season.

I'm a novice skier, just learned how to ski last season. I found dealing with ski boots and poles and skis to be a hassle. I'm someone who in all likelihood is going to ski a handful of times a year at most, with my family. Skiboards and snowblades and ski skates look like a fun alternative with less hassle, especially the ones that use snowboard boot bindings. Is there a entry level or budget skiboard that fits the bill for someone like me (and my kids)? Are these things even available at rental shops?

Should totally interview the man, the creator, Jason Levinthal, his new line of jskis are awesome, which I rock. After starting Line and Full Tilt. He also knows have to have fun with this own skibladezzzz. Saw the Sat Van in Breck a few weeks ago and saw the army of ski boarders while on the lifts.
