Skid row came out at a time when they were too late for 80's hair metal but too early for 90's grunge. Awesome band with a solid first 2 albums nonetheless.

I was in college when Skid Row came out and have loved them ever since. Yes, I still listen to my hair metal, I love it! It's my youth! While most of the "glam bands" at the time were mostly focused on the "party" aspect, shallow lyrics, questionable topics, etc., Skid Row was different. Very talented, Bas' vocals were always outstanding, and their songs contained stories with a message. Slave To The Grind, the album this song was from, didn't get the love it deserved. It never got as popular as their first album, but in my opinion, every song on it is outstanding. There's not a bad one in the bunch. Thanks for showing this group the love they deserve!

"Bastard Saint" is the lyric that hits you in the face! I do like your interpretation too! Rachel Bolan is an incredible poet and artist. I think he wrote most of the songs and lyrics. Darkened Room is awesome too.

If I recall correctly, Rachel Bolan (the bass player) said they wrote this song, right after the gulf war kicked off. It was about whether they could hold onto their beliefs, or fall to worry and fear.

The meaning of the song according to Sabastian Bach in an interview "a song about trying not to lose faith in God with all the sh*t that goes on in the world". Really fits the past year. Your spot on brother. To much hate and judgement in the world today. I played in bands during the 80's and still play now. In the 80s we were so dedicated to our craft. The playing the look it was show business and we knew it. I wish people would realize that a little more today, the reason these bands got your attention was they could all play and bands didn't look like they just got done working on your car when they went on stage. Whole Package!
