Love listening to your thoughts and choices. Having watched you ski for different reviews, it seems like not only do you know your skis and how construction and shape influences experiences, but also how you ski and how your preferences and actual ski days look as you age. I have learned a lot from you and bob and feel that your insights have shaped my much smaller quiver to suit me well. Thanks from Australia for your excellent advice

Thanks, Jeff! We've been asking, and you've delivered😀. And glad you're going to even provide some quiver-building suggestions in the future (something else some of us have asked about). I really love the fact that you guys pay so much attention to our questions and feedback. I figured you'd have a Ripstick this time around, but I guessed wrong about which one. Glad to see the Montero AX still getting the love - can't wait to get mine on the hill this December. Thanks, again!!

Thank you for introducing us to your quiver. Great stuff. I would have thought you would have more Nordica's in your quiver but I do understand you loving the twin tips given your style. Excited to see others at SEs share their respective quivers as well. Living in Colorado I plan to have some more free ride additions to my personal collection as well as some newer carvers. While I continue to try and learn to ski switch the results often end with some of my best falls of the season. Would love a video of you guys during one of the Beer League races...Thanks as always!

I agree completely about the play maker 101. It's an excellent east coast powder skI I skied them on the real deep east coast day we had this past year. ( 2 feet plus). Never felt like I needed more float. They were pretty bouncy and fun. I also tried the armada ARV 100 that day. You could say almost exact same things about that ski. Two excellent powder skis for the east! And i'm definitely not a twin tip skier. I am a Kastle skier mostly. But in the fresh snowI like something softer. I also think that the 3D carbon rod technology is much better Suited to a twin tip than an all mountain ski.
@SkiEssentials

Interesting take about the rods! I agree as well, there's really nothing wrong with a 100 mm ski with decent rocker and taper to make 2 feet of snow feel just fine.

I will be getting my daughter on the slopes for the first time this upcoming season, and I have been searching for a ski that can be incredibly fun at slower speeds. I usually ski my enforcer 88 but you have peaked my interest at the mirus cor. I think that may be a sweet spot

It is certainly one of those skis that makes a lot of sense for a variety of applications, including your own front side and all-mountain needs as well as those of slower skiers. The short turn radius and playful shape makes it incredibly fun at moderate speeds.

Jeff. Watching you do all those tricks in the air was very very impressive. But dude, nothing left to prove. I'd love to do tricks but I want to ski into the sunset of life. And I want to see you testing skis for a long time so don't push it too hard. Too little to gain, too much to lose at this point. Let the kids do that.

I'm going to get back to all the comments here, but this one stuck out to me! Trust me when I say I'm not doing those things to prove anything to anyone else. I'm doing those things for myself, 100%. I absolutely love skiing park and the feeling of doing a handful of my favorite jump tricks is something I can't even put into words. It's where I feel home, it's where I feel I'm at my best, and it's where I feel most confident. I completely understand, respect, and appreciate where you're coming from, but I won't stop anytime soon.

I'm a one ski quiver kind of guy (due to limitations with $$$ and how many skis I can have around the house before my wife says something). The Nordica Unleashed 98 is still in the lead, but that Fischer Nightstick 97 looks interesting too. I guess at the end of the day, leaning to a more powerful carve and trading off a bit of playfulness will keep the Nordica Unleashed 98 at the top of the "my next ski will be" list.

I’ve spent lots of time trying to figure out how to expand beyond my current sole pair. I’ve got some Kanjos I love and a list of skis I think I want- something uphill capable(maybe backcountry), possibly a stiffer skinnier groomer ski, and posssibly a wider ski(though not sure if it makes sense to look at a more all mountain ski or something that might be uphill worthy). But not sure which to add first and if I could scratch that itch with one ski in two roles… but seeing your wall of skis, I’m like “guess I just need more pairs.”
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 9 ай бұрын
More pairs is usually the right answer, especially if you're looking to mix uphill and downhill--that's where the multiple skis really makes sense as you're able to pair specific bindings and not have to deal with hybrid stuff. Keep the Kanjo and get an uphill setup, then I'd move to the front side ski.

Thanks for this, one thing you could add to the comments is the length you have on all of them. It looks like they are all around 177-180 but not sure. Would you consider the declivity 82Ti or the the black crows Divis in your quiver? Looking for a fun ski on the groomers but that can rip the bumps. I want to see Bob's quiver. Jeff, I really am interested in the Stockli Montero AX and was looking into putting a pivot binding, as you and Bob say you both love that style.... I figured I would try it then realized that the brake widths are 75 mm and 95 mm. The 95 mm seems too wide so were you able to mount the 75 mm brake with the pivot? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all your great reviews! Later, Rick (also in the 6ft plus and over 200 lbs category)
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 10 ай бұрын
The Pivot with the 75 brake fits on the 80 mm AX, but I wouldn't put it on the 84 mm AR--too much rubbing along the edges. the 95 hangs way too much. The only other issue is that the 75 either comes in the 18 or the 12, but not the 15 or 14. Unless you have a 75 mm brake platform hanging around, you may need to search a bit for the new binding with the 75 mm brake. Have fun! SE

Out of everything you had so far , what do you recommend for a ski style playfull, park, allmountain ish, consindering being 165 and like really light 135 pounts (60 ish kgs). I was thinking of bent 90 but the sizes idk, if they fit (157 to small, 166 too big) also I have a bent 100 in 164 and seems a bit heavy for me to pop it so I am not so certain about the 90, was looking for other possibilities tbh? Or what's your opinion/take on this?

I like the sound of the Bent 90 for sure. I don't think 157 is too small based on weight. Also Dynastar M-Free 90 in a 156 would be a good choice. Have fun!

What are your thoughts on the Montero AX as a flat ski with the Pivot vs the system binding. Per your choice, obviously you prefer the flat ski and Pivot combo, but how much of a difference is there? I might know a huge Pivot snob that was able to get a great deal on a used pair of AX's after the season, but they have reservations about skiing that system binding.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 10 ай бұрын
The main difference is the flat spot created by the system binding versus the shorter mount span of the Pivot. By allowing the ski to flex more naturally and freely, you're creating a more versatile product with better snow feel--it definitely brings the ski to life. If you're looking for a more race-like feel, the system is great and looks super-sharp. Keep in mind you have to find a Pivot with a 75 mm brake on it as the 95 is too wide.

Coming from a 2018 atomic vantage 85 under foot. Ready for something new and exciting. I ski resort, but want something playful as I seek out side hits and trees. I’ve come to the conclusion of either getting the Mirus Cor or Captis from black crows. I also was pondering about a bent 90 but might be too soft for me. Have any thoughts? It's tough to look past the Mirus Cor when dealing with resort skiing, trees, jumps, and others. The Cor has better grip and turning performance than the Captis, but the Captis is really fun as well. @@richardcole4776 I think the rippy 106 is a great ski. The hill I patrol at is Powderking in BC. 3RD highest snowfall in avg of North America resorts. But it is not a steep hill. I bought mine the season before the black edition came out. The black edition adds to its firm snow and crud capabilities but takes away from the powder skiing as it is a fair bit stiffer. I regularly take mine out in 2-12" of fresh snow and I'm really happy with them. 12" or more fresh I'll take the fatter ones out. If we had a steeper hill I probably wouldn't need fatter skis

Great review. What do you weigh and how tall?im an expert at 5 11 170lb looking at the enforcer 110. I like a mix of turney playfulness and aggressive cruisingoff piste crud. What length would you recommend 177 or 185?the 18.5 turn radius on the 185 I like. Do you think the16.5 tr on the 177 would be too turney and squirrly at speed?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 9 ай бұрын
5/10 150. The 185 in the 110 is quite a handful--it's just a heavy ski. There's no squirrelyness to these skis at all, regardless of size--they can turn but they don't have to--that's what sets Enforcer apart from a lot of other skis in this zone. I'd go 177 if you're looking for a mix of playfulness and cruising.

Was thinking of Salomon QST 98 or maybe Elan Playmaker 100? Fischer Nightstick 97? Unleashed 98? Would these that are less than my current 102's be too narrow for our pow? Any other suggestions would be helpful too. Many thanks in advance!

You're in the right zone here for sure. I'd maybe take the Playmaker out as that ski falls on the lighter and non-carvy side of the spectrum. The QST 98 is the most directional, just ahead of the Unleashed. Nightstick crept up on me this year, and while it does have more of a park focus, it's a very solid and smooth ski for sure. Overall, though, I bet the QST 98 will fit the bill of having the carving, flotation, trees, and bumps covered with mild park/switch skiing.

Hmm boots.. My first season I got 20 days and my second season I got 35 days.. 55 days total but that is out west days.. But not full days.. There must be a formula;) I will say this.. One of my pairs of skis, my feet do move around in the boots but I use 2 other pairs frequently and I never had that issue.. The pair of skis that I used 6 times I did not have that issue and my old race skis I did not have that issue.. I didn't even have that issue when I demoed a couple pair of skis.. With all that being said, I should be able to get at least 1 more season of at least 35 days... Hopefully 2 seasons.. I do have a back up pair of GoodWill boots that are too big that I could use.. I have seen a few people use those boots that the shell attaches and those are really cool but they are $900..

I would love to have that Montero AX or even the AR.. My guess is that those would be quicker on and off the edges than my Stormrider 88s.. My 88s can probably go through a little more crud than those.. My guess is the ratio is 80/20 with the Montero and 70/30 with 88s.. My Stormrider 105s the ratio is probably 50/50.. Even the 105s do like it to be firm underneath.. Can have a little soft on top but as long as it is pretty firm and pretty smooth underneath the skis Rock..

Jeff had to cannibalize the bindings off of those skis for another pair (I told him not to) and then the skis were gifted to one of our mounters who was extremely appreciative!

What is all this "Quiver" stuff ?? I skied literally hundreds of days back in the 60's , 70's and 80's and many of us had numerous pairs of skis. Myself I had Rossignol ROC550's, Strato 102's, ST650's, Dynamic VR17's, Head HRP Comps, K2 4 Comps, Fischer RC4's, and even the rare Head XR1 Competition. We never invented some goofy name to call our skis. C'mon man...."quiver". Gimme a break.

While we can't claim to have invented the term quiver, especially when referencing a case of arrows, it's generally accepted these days as a word that describes multiple items within the same collection.

Haha that is the best. Your taking somebody’s money with that player set up. I could geek out and say you forgot to include the shafts but it might distract you from ski questions.
