Another fantastic new ski for 2023. The Unleashed 98 blends Soul Rider, Enforcer, and Santa Ana ski technology into a completely new ski that's going to satisfy a wide range of skier types and different applications.

The season's almost over, I'm about to wax seal my skis along with my credit card, but this video may be changing things here. As an aggressive skier, I've always liked the enforcer 100 and the rustler9, but the enforcer I have the 2019 version and I just can't go through trees too much if I'm spending the entire day on the mountain, my legs would get tired. The rustler on the other hand, does pretty much everything perfectly, except for hard charging LOL, the tip is so long and so soft, I get really nervous sometimes. This thing right here, the only 2 things that's holding me back right now is the graphic, and that fact I haven't finished watching this whole video yet, I paused it to write this comment. I'm not sure what would happen after I finish the whole video haha.

You'll see more park skiing towards the end from Jeff if that moves the needle at all. Sure, the graphics aren't spectacular, but nor are they offensive like some other skis out there. I'd say bust out that card. www.skiessentials.com/2023-nordica-unleashed-98-skis-w-tyrolia-attack14-gw-bindings.html

Purchased the '23 (same as '24) 186cm nordica unleashed 98s and love them. Extremely similar to k2 kung fujas, but stiffer, which means faster speeds

I just got soul rider 87s a few monthes ago. Love them to death. But since they've discontinued the line up I'll be getting these in the future! Nordica is knocking it out of the park I don't even bother to look at other brands because I know Nordica has it all right now.

Hey folks, great video! I'm finally putting my dynastar menace 98 in 175 length to bed and hunting for a new ski. I absolutely loved the menace (had it mounted at -2 cm from center and skied 75% park, about 50/50 rails and jumps, and 25% rest of mountain) but am looking for something just slightly longer ~180. Right now I'm wavering between Nordica Unleashed 98 in 180 length (would probably try to mount -2 cm from center), Black Ops 98 in 182 length, Armada Edollo at 180 length. I've tried J Skis All play at 177 cm and it felt way too short/noodly, and I've heard some people find the Edollos pretty noodly so I'm a bit worried about that. I've also read online that Black Ops 98 is not the most forgiving ski and not many people get along with it. There's not too much online about the Unleashed 98. Sorry for the long paragraph, but any advice?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've loved the Menace for a while too!. The Black Ops 98 is more similar to the Menace, so if you're looking for the same ski in terms of dampness and versatility, that's a solid option for sure. The Unleashed is more energetic with greater carving power and focus. I think I'd prefer the Blackops in softer snow, park, and trees, but for groomers and all-mountain skiing, the Unleashed is very surprising and awesome. The Edollo is more specific as a park ski, and feels more like the Black Ops than the Unleashed. I'd think the Edollo is the noodle of this group. We did an on-snow Unleashed 98 review this year that was a lot of fun: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNthl7Kf2p_cqYE.html SE

A Bent Chetler with metal - sounds perfect. Can you send 2 demo pairs to Sunday River for next week? I'm heading down to the U14 Norams with my racer kids and my lady from Toronto - so the SUV is going to be filled with race skis and I only get to bring 1 pair - I have to decide between a carver or an Enforcer 88 - but I want to bring both. Do you have any in stock? Awesome review as usual.

We do have the Unleashed in stock, both the 98 and 108. There's a decent chance you could find a demo at Sunday River... I can't think of any Nordica dealers off the top of my head, but I wouldn't be completely surprised if someone over there had them already.

The Choose Your Own Adventure bit make me chuckle :) Just recently found your site and youtube page, awesome reviews guys, I'm hooked! Going to test out some new skis in the coming weeks and have narrowed it down based on watching a ton of your reviews. I need help finding that new "one-ski-quiver" ski for me. I'm a heavier guy, 5'11" 230. 42 years old, former patroller, expert skier. I've skied 35 years, mostly in Northern Utah, but now in the PNW. I need a ski that can do everything from carving on groomers (50%) to skiing soft chop in trees and bowls (40%) and still float in powder (10%). I'm moving on from my 2009 Volkl Gotama (105mm) 183 which I really enjoyed. Kind of heavy, stiff, and blast through anything, but still float, and were surprisingly decent in tight trees (Maybe because of the partial twin tip?). I like a damp ski for long, high speed turns when I get the chance, something stable through crud, - *but the thing is* - I'm spending almost all my time teaching my 6yo and 8yo on greens! (Soon to be blues). So it would be nice to have something that is fun to mess around on with them and do wall hits and what not. Because the majority of my time now is skiing with and teaching my kids, and not all that other stuff. :) But when I do get the chance to head out with some friends or on my own, it needs to rip. From your reviews I'm looking at: Nordica Enforcer 100 Nordica Enforcer 94 Salomon Stance 96 Elan Ripstick 96 Black Blizzard Rustler 10 Maybe these Unleashed 98s?? Any strong vibes on any of these for me and anything I should maybe stay away from? I keep coming back to the Enforcer 100 because it sounds rewarding, can carve hard, and floats, but also the Stance 96 because it sounds like it can maybe be a little bit more playful and looser for getting backwards when teaching? I think I'll be a 182-186 in length regardless, does that sound right? Thanks!
@src248
@src248 2 жыл бұрын
The new Mantra 102 (or M6) are worth a good look (I'd agree that the 184 would the right length for these skis). Long high speed turns are where the 102 shines, they feel fantastic on edge. I had them going absurdly fast and they stayed perfectly composed. Also liked them a lot in trees and more technical terrain, powerful but easy to maneuver (though I did find them more fatiguing than off-piste focused skis). Long/low rocker makes them loose with the bases flat so they'll happily slide around when you're taking it easy.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Enforcers and Stances rip the hardest while the Ripstick Black has a lot more in common with Unleashed. Rustler 10 is more of a freeride option, and I don't really see that fitting on this list. I'd narrow focus to Stance and Unleashed, as they offer a good mix of performance, fun, and accessibility, with the Stance falling more on the performance side and Unleashed more fun. Length sounds right to me!

The best skis which fit your description are Enforcer 104 Free - more playful than 100, and more directional than twin-tip Unleashed 98. They also perform very well at low speeds, great for teaching kids. Note, that I own 104 Free and I recently tested Unleashed 98.

I tried the Unleashed 98 at a spring demo and it was really awesome. Super fun and maneuverable in woods and tricky stuff -- going backwards is great. Also loved the feel on piste. Perfect ski. I can only imagine the downsides, like presumably something wider might be in order for super deep snow or charging wide open stuff? But I really enjoy the exploration and maneuverability and this ski also makes me excited about learning some new tricks. Watching your other reviews helped steer me into trying these. Oh -- I remember one drawback: the boring graphics. Oh and I didn't get the chance to try the 108 so I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts on that one

I demoed the 98 as well. I liked it, it's a really fun ski. I don't ski park, but it was fun for hitting kickers and other features on the hill. I like the Enforcer Free 104 more, but enjoyed skiing the Unleashed 98.

I've skied the 108, thought it did everything pretty well. Super fun using the camber to bounce the skis between turns, quite stable, and a very good carver for the width. I was in soft snow but nothing deep, but I fear they wouldn't perform particularly well (for the width) in powder. Lots of camber with not a lot of rocker or taper... still, could be a great option for someone wanting one ski to do everything
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Regarding deep snow, for a lot of skiers, that opportunity either rarely presents itself, doesn't happen at all, or only lasts a few runs. As such, the 98, for most people on most days, is more than enough in soft snow. I skied them in about 8-10 of fluff and they did great. The 108 is certainly the better choice for that untracked application, and actually bends nicely into a carved turn on the softer groomers. I'd take the 108 as a soft snow ski to complement a narrower one, while the 98 can serve well as a one and only ski. Pro tip: If you pair the ski with a super-obnoxious binding or boot color, it takes emphasis away from the boring graphics.

Im so sick of you and your amazing reviews! I was in between the QST 98 and BC 100 and now this ski comes up and now I’m between the 3! Can you give your thoughts on which ones excel or fall short in certain applications between the QST 98, BC 100, and Unleashed 98? And personally which one do you guys like the best and why? Again awesome review and as soon as I figure out which ones to get Ill be ordering them from y’all. Cheers fellas. Also, which would you say of the 3 is the superior all mountain ski?
@privatsergej
@privatsergej 2 жыл бұрын
honestly I would go with design language and price. Get the cheapest! Bent Chetler will be the softest and has speedlimit. Nordica will be a full on twin Tip while still be "chargy". QST will have a flatter tail, definitely directional.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Haha! So many good skis out there these days. It's great to have so many options, but sometimes it can feel somewhat overwhelming. I do think there's a good way to differentiate between those 3 skis, however. QST has the longest rocker profile, both in the tip and tail. It also has more early taper, so that really puts it into a smeary/slarvy/surfy category. Super agile in the trees because of its easy edge release. The Bent 100 is agile too, but it comes more from a springy flex pattern and a lighter weight feel than the slarvy/smeary performance of the QST. It's a very energetic, bouncy ski. Lots of camber, snappy flex pattern, etc. The Unleashed doesn't have the same energy or pop of the Bent, but it has more vibration damping and feels stronger overall. Not as surfy as the QST, however, so in that application it kind of falls in between the Bent and QST, but I'd say more vibration damping than both. I can't really confidently say that one is the superior all-mountain ski, mostly because I could think of 3 different skiers who would find each one of those skis is the best ski for them. The Unleashed 98 is just about a perfect tool for how I (Jeff) personally like to ski, but if you valued a lighter ski, you could easily prefer the Bent, or similarly if you valued more of that surfy feel, you'd likely prefer the QST. This is the type of thing I could talk about for hours and hours. In reality, all 3 of those are awesome skis, they accomplish similar things, but we're always going to point out the differences among skis, even if they're minor.

Hey guys, great review. Thanks for the helpful information. Wondering your recommendations on length for the 98s. I am 511, 165 lbs and ski Colorado. Guys, your reviews are just awesome but every time I think I've chosen a new set of planks, you publish another review and I change my mind! I'm 6'1", 205lbs and ski in Europe (French Alps). I guess ability is subjective but I'm probably what you would classify as advanced. Currently have an old set of Sir Francis Bacons but finding myself spending more time on piste / side-hits. Don't really ski switch that much anymore but do love the playfulness that the twin on my bacons offer and find myself going backwards to teach and video my kids! Love popping jumps all over the hill. I like to rip it on groomers and charge hard (the Bacons get a little sketchy north of 80kph in a straight line), using quick turns and loving both rapid, surfy, slarvy turns as well as some carving. I'd say my needs were closer to Bob's than Jeff's from the reviews I've watched - I pretty much want the best of all worlds and, as I have to travel to the mountains from the UK, want a one ski quiver that can handle it all from hard pack to crud, pow to spring snow. I'm currently looking at these Unleashed, but also Rustler 9's, Elan Ripsticks (probably Black), Fischer Ranger 96, Black Crows Serpo (or possible Camox!) and Line Blade Optics 96!! Would love to know your thoughts on the these and how they stack up against what I'm looking for! Thanks guys - keep up the great work!

Thanks, Peter, we love to keep people guessing! That's a pretty long list, and the good news is that they're all great skis--more right than wrong here. The Ripstick usually jumps out to me if you're looking for something that carves well, but is quick and agile. The Black is an awesome upgrade to the Green and feels damp and stable for sure. The Ranger and the Camox are on the bulkier side, but if you're looking for a bump in stability, those are a lot of fun. I'd narrow focus to the Ripstick and probably the Sender--that one's been gaining steam in my mind lately. Have fun! SE/Bob

@@SkiEssentials Can you elaborate a bit more on the differences between the current Bacon and the Unleashed 98? I'm in a similar situation, I love how the Bacons carve but they do get nervous at higher speeds. I'm looking to lay down some higher speed carves and still be able to ride a little switch at the end of a run. I can live without the slide and smeary feel but I do like the edge release and pivotability. Also, if you could throw in a size recommendation, I'm 6' 185lbs. Thanks Guys!

Couple more comparisons for firmer snow..New Ranger 102 and Declivity 102?? Thanks Nick
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Declivity 102 is definitely the strongest out of that group. Ranger and Unleashed are in a similar conversation for firm snow application, but they feel a little different. The Ranger is more responsive, while the Unleashed is a little looser. Both make clean, round turns on groomers, it's more the difference in tail rocker length and amount of splay than anything else.

Great reviews as always guys. After a long debate I'm set on these as my daily drivers, edging it over the enforcer 100s and rustler 10 as it just seems more fun, versatile and less tiring. Quick question on sizing: I'm 183cm, 83kg, pretty aggressive skier doing mix of terrains, enjoy jumps and bit of switch/180s. Torn between 180 & 186- hearing people say you can size up in this ski, but worried 186 may be unnecessary hard work for short turns/trees/180s. I'm also not the most technical skier in v tight stuff. That said I'd appreciate the extra stability at speed and potential extra float in deeper stuff of the 186cm - I don't have a dedicated powder ski so this will be my go to. V grateful for any advice- thanks
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
I'd think you'll have more success overall on the 180. The longer effective edge makes it smooth and stable. 186 may be on the long side, unless you know you prefer longer skis.

Bob skied them on the recommended line, which I think is a good spot for just about any directional skier. There's a good amount of tail rocker, so I personally wouldn't want to go too far back as I think it would start to get a little unstable.

Hey guys, love the reviews. These skis seem awesome! How do they compare to the 104 FR, Declivity 102 or Mindbender 99 ti? I’m an advanced directional skier who likes to rip groomers but like a bit of tail rocker to help with turns in bumps/trees. West coast skier who goes off piste when there’s fresh snow.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
I think the closest comparison out of the skis you listed is to the Enforcer 104 Free. It's lighter, quicker, and more responsive with the longer effective edge. Not as powerful as the Enforcer and doesn't track through chop like that ski can, so it's nice we have both. In some ways, it's like a Declivity, but if it had more of a twin tip shape. Unleashed feels lighter and quicker to me, however. Mindbender is a tough comparison. Really you have to compare the Enforcer 100 to the Mindbender 99Ti, not the Unleashed. Hope that helps!

Would like your thoughts about how to determine the best mounting point for bindings on a ski. Could you address this?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
That's a hard thing to answer from an objective perspective, because realistically, there's so much subjectivity going on when choosing mount points. The Unleashed 98 is a perfect example. Some (like Bob) ski it right on the factory recommended line and have no reason to move it. Others (Jeff) go a lot further forward. I'm about +4 from recommended on mine, if I remember correctly. If you're not sure, or don't have specific reasons to move it, my general recommendation is to go with the manufacturer's recommended spot. Maybe over the summer we could do a video talking about the benefits of moving and when/why you should.

How do these compare to the 104 free/unlimited specifically in terms of carving performance? I assume the skinnier and more directional enforcers would outcarve it, but I'm curious about the slight width, weight, and shape tradeoffs when it comes to carving with the twin tip enforcers. Great reviews as always! Much appreciated.

In a longer, more drawn out turn, I think the 104 Free is a better choice, but in shorter to more medium radius turns, I'd rather be on the Unleashed. The Unleashed has a longer effective edge, so it's a bit smoother than Enforcer 104 Free, but they all feel pretty darn composed in a variety of turn shapes and styles.

It's a nice comparison, and we've been working on the new 96 for a review lately, so it's timely as well. Great review, looks like a super fun ski! It's a shame they don't have a high 80's model to replace the Soul Rider 87 since those are sadly no more. Any ideas of a similar high 80 waist all mountain twin tip would be appreciated! I've been riding some Ranger 102's only the last couple of seasons, and want something that's a good step down for when conditions aren't great, but can still handle trees and bumps when things aren't fresh. I rode a friends pair of SR87's this season and they were a blast, but it seems like Nordica is only doing the 97's now. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I agree, would have loved to have the same build as the 98 and 108 in the 90. As is, though, the new 90 is similar to the outgoing 87, so I wouldn't discount that as an option. If you're looking for easier going through trees and bumps, I'd lean to the Bent 100. Unleashed is great, but the longer camber and heavier weight make it a bit more demanding in these scenarios. Nordica unleashed 98, 2024 rustler 9, elan ripstick 96 black, or Fischer ranger 96. What’s your one quiver suggestion for strictly NH, VT, ME? 250lbs, I ski blues with the kids, a little off piste, no hard charging. Need playful low speed maneuverability. Top speeds moderate at best. Looked at and skied the maverick 86c. Wonderful ski but considering getting something a bit wider, more versatile to grow into.

Good options! Jeff would lean to the Unleashed 98 while I (Bob) would take the Ripstick Black. The Ripstick will take the carbon power of the Maverick and bring it to the next level with the use of carbon tubes rather than stringers. Jeff likes the carving power of the Unleashed and the dampness of the metal.

Thanks for the great review. How do these compare to the new Black Crows Atris?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Atris is considerably more rockered so it has more of that freeride feel to it--drifty and floaty. The Unleashed still holds a lot of freestyle benefits, and a lot of that is the ski's camber and long effective edge. This is more of a twin tip in the park sense versus the Atris, which is more powder-oriented. The Unleashed is a better on-trail ski with more grip and dampnes due to the metal. Love them both, but really gravitate to Unleashed.

Intermediate/Advanced skiier torn between the Salomon QST 98's, THESE, or something more directional like the Mindbender or Enforcer. Could you give some comparisons between the QST 98's vs these and where these two would be better vs the Mindbender/Enforcer? Thanks!
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
The QST is drifty and smeary while the Unleashed likes to be on edge and in a carved turn--it has more pep and pop as a result of the higher camber and less dramatic rocker. I like the feel of the Unleashed in an all-mountain format, but it's not going to float quite as well. When you get into Mindbender and Enforcer 100, you're looking at better on-trail carving performance and more directional charging through crud and chop. The dampness of the Enforcer and K2 is more pronounced at higher speeds versus Unleashed and QST.

Loving the reviews! I am just wondering what your thoughts would be with regards to the Enforcer 94 unlimited vs the Unleashed 98's vs Elan ripstick black 96. I'm a strong intermediate bordering on advanced skier, very confident and like going fast on-piste, but definitely more an intermediate off-piste, but absolutely love tree skiing (pretty much all I do in Japan, if I can!). I'm an Australian who ski's predominantly Japan and New Zealand (very different conditions) and am looking for something to replace my old 168cm 2016 Armada Edollo's, and want something more geared towards true all mountain, that can comfortably ski off-piste and on, in powder or firmer snow. I'd use these mostly as a directional twin and don't do a whole lot of park anymore. Was settled on the Enforcer 94 unlimited's, until I saw this review and the Elan ripstick black 96's! Any thoughts on what would be a better fit would really be really appreciated!

Just keep in mind that the Unleashed has less rocker, and is therefore a bit more grabby in the fresh. Overall, I like the energy of the Unleashed for sure, and it's a fantastic ski for all-mountain conditions and freestyle skiing. The Ripstick is considerably more directional-oriented, and has a stronger carving personality. They really use those four carbon rods quite effectively, and it mimics the metal without the weight or potential sluggishness. I would say the Enforcer 94 UL is last on my list for you, as it is a bit on the light/stiff side of the spectrum while the other skis are more well-rounded. If you're dealing with directional skiing mainly, I'd go with the Elan. Have fun! SE

@@SkiEssentials Thank you! Just one more question, on sizing. Given i'm a strong intermediate bordering into advanced skier, what length would you recommend? I'm 176cm (5' 9") and 68 kg, for reference. Also, of the 15- 20 days i'd get in, each year, very few will actually be powder days. But powder or no, when in Japan, I'm in the trees! I'd lean towards the 172 Ripstick, but that's also bias from skiing on 168cm ski's for so long!

This may be what decide to do since I'm used to lighter skis. Unleashed 98 definitely feels lighter than the Enforcer 104 and in general is going to be more appropriate for a playful skier. You'd likely prefer it over the 104 Unlimited too, mostly coming down to a shape difference more than anything else. For length, there will be plenty of skiers your size choosing the 186 in the Unleashed 98. It skis a little bit short. If that seems long to you, you could go 180 cm too.

Can you guys share your opinion on a comparison between these skis and the Fischer Ranger 102 fr (pink/blue edition from 21/22 season)? Will be intersecting for the huge crowd of fans of the retired Ranger 102 Fr (and please, do not mix with the new "no fr" 102 edition, that have nothing in common with the only real Ranger).
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 10 ай бұрын
Sure! I think a lot of skiers are hording the 102 FR's, especially Pink, because they were so beloved. The Unleashed makes deeper and cleaner turns, as it's more consistent in flex from tip to tail. One of the things I noticed, and frankly enjoyed, about the 102FR was the reactive and engaging shovel that pulled you into a turn and made getting from one turn to the next super easy and fun. The Unleashed is heavier in the tips due to the metal, but there's less camber and rocker, so it still hooks in nicely--that is brought forward from more traditional twin tip shaping principles. The Fischer is floatier and more maneuverable, but I personally prefer the Unleashed when it comes to groomers and carving.

Can you advise how this compares to the Mantra M6. I love speed, but also looking for more control in trees and bumps where my friends often drag me. My skill level in trees and bumps is average at best, but I think I'd spend more time there if I felt more in control. Prior to watching this video I was leaning heavily toward the Mantra M6, compared to the Enforcer 104 for a so called all mountain ski, now I'm wondering if the unleashed 98 is a better choice. Maybe advise which is better on hard groom, soft groom, bumps and trees. And where would you advise mounting bindings for the best balance between speed, and bumps? I've been watching your reviews all winter. Keep it up!

On the mount points, I've skied the wider versions of both (M102, U108) on groomers and in trees; the recommended lines on both felt perfect to me. The Volkls are mounted further back and want you to keep your weight a little more forward to bend/pivot the ski but both are pretty happy with a neutral or forward stance. I felt no reason to move away from the line. Either ski could work for you, the Unleashed will be more playful and the easier ski in the trees while the M6 will give more power and stability. I liked both skis a lot in either terrain!
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say the Unleashed is a nice blend between M6 and Enforcer 104, although slightly more flexible than both. It's a better choice for bumps and trees, but that's going to come at the cost of groomer performance. The 104 is the best floater, and the M6 the best carver. I think the Unleashed will fill the space in between quite nicely. For mounting, if you're looking to balance speed and bumps, I'd stick to the recommended line.

Can't go wrong with either of those skis. The Unleashed has a longer effective edge so it's a bit snappier and poppier in addition to having a more freestyle background. Rustler is more born from freeride, so it's a bit more rockered overall. Even though it's narrower, the Rustler is a bit smoother of a floater. If you like the more twin-tipped nature of the Reckoner, the Unleashed will give you more of the same. For a slightly different path, and more of a controlled feeling on firm snow, I'd lean to Rustler.

It's a bit difficult to open that box as everyone's a little different and each length requires discussion then. Preference is king here, and I feel that the playfulness of the ski in its natural state is the best, while Jeff likes his skis as forward as possible. Beyond that, skiers need to know something specific about how they ski and the way the ski behaves in order to make that mount call themselves.

This is an interesting ski. An improvement that they could still make to it would be to reduce the tip and tail splay more and remove the tapering away of the effective edge at tips and tails, and narrow it down to 95mm under foot. This kind of ski is otherwise perfect. See the Atomic Theory from back in 2012 for the original and still the best one ski quiver IMO. I reckon they stopped making that because it meant people end up having more than one set of skis, that's what happened to me.... Still wish I could get another set of them.

I feel the same way about the twin tips, and that's one of the big reasons I was stoked that this ski was invented. I loved my Soul Riders, but always felt like there was something missing. The Poacher uses fiberglass and carbon to gain stability and power, so it's a different feel--the Poacher can still get chatty on firmer snow, while it takes a bit more to knock the Unleashed off course. Black Crows Camox and Rossignol Holyshred fit that bill as well, but I'm still taking Unleashed over those.

The biggest differences is in the rocker of the tips and tails. The Line has more, so is slightly more playful in softer snow when you're making smeary style turns. The Unleashed is more precise, so that works great on groomers and in the park, but the Line is more floaty while still having some great on-trail abilities. It's a fairly close comparison IMO. I think vibration damping is about the same between the two. The Holyshred gets it from the rubber, these from the metal. The feel is slightly different, but overall I'd say vibration damping is even. The Unleashed has more pronounced rocker (more splay), which I find makes it a little easier to swing around. Easier pivoting performance, while the Holyshred has a longer effective edge, which requires a little more unweighting. Hope that helps!

How would the performance of the Unleashed compare to the corresponding length of the Santa Ana?
@SkiEssentials

That's a great question. I wish Santa Ana 98 came in a 186. My feeling is that it's a similar overall character, just with the longer rocker of the Santa Ana making it a bit more enjoyable in a carved turn. The build is identical, so we're just talking about the differences in shape and profile. The higher camber of the Unleashed makes it more poppy, and that's a good thing for quicker, more energetic turns as well as park performance. It's not going to be quite as drifty or smeary as the Santa Ana on the other end.

@SkiEssentials

Hey Joe! I would at least strongly consider the 180. A lot of people have got on this ski and thought it skis a little bit short. That's mostly coming from the amount of splay in the rocker. I started off skiing the 186, which was perfectly manageable even at my size (your size). I did choose to go with the 180 for my own skis for a little bit more quickness. The big difference, other than the weight, is the longer camber underfoot and shorter rocker profile. This makes the Unlimited and Hustle a bit drifiter for woods--easier to skid and smear, but the Unleashed certainly is quick enough to make those turns as well, you just end up using your edges more than your bases. Hustle and Unlimited are lighter as well, so that just makes them physically easier to maneuver. The metal and the splay of the tips and tails make it different from the FR and Origin models, and I don't think the Ranger 96 is quite as playful as Unleashed. Even so, the Unleashed feels like it has more power than Ranger 102, mostly due to the longer effective edge and tip-to-tail metal, even if it's not edge to edge in the middle.

I'd put it right there in terms of performance, application, and overall character. The Camox is a bit snappier as the metal in the Unleashed will dull that energy just a bit. That said, the Unleashed is more stable at speed. I'd rather bomb a snowfield or a cruddy trail on the Nordica versus the Camox mostly for stability purposes. There's more splay in the tips and tails of Unleashed, so it does serve better in the park or in a freestyle application, but again, not by a whole lot.
