@CrizzyEyes4 жыл бұрын
I think he's less outright supporting it and saying "It's a necessary evil with the absolute deluge of content that KZfaq has to put up with nowadays." No algorithm is perfect, but if you think about it holistically, it doesn't really do a bad job. The website has grown a lot since its inception.
@spookson56794 жыл бұрын
@@CrizzyEyes still calling the way it is necessary is a stretch since the algorithm punishes you for not stretching your vids to 10 minutes and for getting demonotized, and we all know how easy it is to be demonotized on KZfaq
@CrizzyEyes4 жыл бұрын
@@spookson5679 Yeah, like I said it isn't perfect. Some of the parameters are designed to get KZfaq more overall ad revenue by promoting specific videos over others. However AN ALGORITHM is necessary due to the sheer volume of content, for the same reason that search engines have algorithms. You simply would not be able to find videos otherwise. It is flawed, but still blamed too frequently for inadequacies in the uploader's content.
@trickytreyperfected14824 жыл бұрын
@@spookson5679 it doesn't punish you for not extended your videos to be 10 minutes or more though... the only reason channels try to extend their videos is because after you hit 10 minutes, you are allowed to add mid-roll ads.

@Gravijahz Жыл бұрын
I know this is old but I think the bigger point is that it's not just as simple as "algorithm change??", because it is very much true tastes change and things go in and out of popularity. and on top of that, it was the algorithm that made a lot of these channels popular in the first place. essentially, the argument then becomes "the algorithm should never change."
@cronchtm490010 ай бұрын
And now they’ve removed the dislike button, run double preroll ads, removed the indicators for mid roll ads, and tried to stop people from using adblockers. I just wish that KZfaq stayed the way it was when this video was made. It wasn’t perfect, but these recent changes...

Personally, I *_love_* having the option & never once did I struggle to notice the big blue text box that pops up after I've Subscribed and tells me I need to touch the bell icon to turn on notifications. No offense to the *_way_* too many channels I subscribe to but imo getting a million notifications gets annoying and the more video post notifications I get the less often YT notifies me of a reply to my comment, etc (at least, ever since I turned off most of the forced video/post notifications & changed the option to occasionally I seem to be notified of Likes & Replies *_FAR_* more often! Which I like)
@SgtLion4 жыл бұрын

"Overriding the KZfaq algorithm with a single click" Because, you know, the subscribe button isn't for actually seeing what people upload! No, that would be silly. But the subscribe button does *exactly* that. All the new videos for all the channels you subscribe to still show up in your subscriptions tab, just as they've always done. A lot of the recent drama has seemingly confused a lot of people about how all the subscriptions stuff works, but this is functionality that never changed. If you want to see new videos from the channels you *subscribe* to, check your *subscriptions* tab.

Regardless of the youtube's algorithm, why isn't this channel exploding with subscribers?
@ZipplyZane7 жыл бұрын
Because he refuses to "use his head for everything else" and figure out how it works. He'd rather just mock everyone else who is trying to figure it out.
@SkandiaAUS7 жыл бұрын
ZipplyZane I think it's clear by looking at what is popular that you'd have to market down to 5-15yr olds and simplify your content. You'd appreciate he's got more talent than that so is doing the respectable thing and keeping to his own style.
@ZipplyZane7 жыл бұрын
SkandiaAUS Bullshit. CGP Grey is far more popular. He doesn't dumb things down, and he releases even less content than CD. Numberphile is more popular. It produces some pretty high level math. Various other educational channels are huge. I'm not saying he has to actually do the work to figure out how the algorithm works. But, since he hasn't, he has no right to make fun of those who have.
@graphics_travelers7 жыл бұрын
Listen, all is not as it seems, Numberphile and CGP Grey have that extremely goofy factor to their videos, which as SkandiaAUS mentioned attracts small children. Why does this matter, you may ask? Well, there's this cahanell called forgotten weapons that has about 370 000+ K subscribers, he's monthly patreon subscribers give him about 5 000 US dollars I think. Now, I know many channels that are 3x as larger in subscriber base and they can barely reach that amount of money with their patreon supporters. Since all of their subscribers are dumb little poor(literaly) kids that can't afford or just won't care for financial situation of their youtuber. There's also the fact that adults are subsribed to a lot less channels and those channels are more of a serious nature, and hence they can watch every single video out there that is put out there by their youtuber and even support it financially. So sometimes it's not just about the number of subscribers it's about their quality. Oh look, CD's subscribers give him also 5K per month, that sure allows him to do his job at his own pace, so his situation isn't that critical, is it?
@Minileblanc7 жыл бұрын
He doesn't upload weekly/daily, since his videos take a long ass time to make since they're such high quality, so he has less views overall, and less subscribers. At least that's how that seems to work.
@Jackle026 жыл бұрын
Holy shit, this is hilariously ironic. I'm watching a lot of your stuff because you were on H3 podcast yesterday, and seeing you talk about "anecdotal evidence" with him in the scene just made me laugh my ass off. Also, beautiful explanation of "the algorithm" and the variable tastes of the viewers, as well as the ending.

I just still fucking don't understand why you are so underrated. And I mean the subscription numbers, because clearly your current viewers admire you as much as they can. So much effort in one video, my brain can't even process. You are truly a professional of your kind, and the satiric content makes it even greater. I wish you the best in the following years, 2017 might give you the attention you must have. Peace Captain.

Sidney Law exactly. This is one of a kind. Other KZfaqrs talk about the algorithm directly and sometimes seriously. CD was able to combine it with actual content. I really can’t imagine the amount of work he put into writing the script and everything. I’m glad his Patreon is at least successful enough to sustain his work. I don’t know when KZfaq’s gonna start recommending his videos, I know so many people who would enjoy these but they just never heard of it before I sending the link directly to them

Hey, I like Sky Captain. Even if it's cheesy and dated, I appreciate the pulp aesthetic and what they were trying to do with greenscreen at the time. Apparently the director, Kerry Conran, wanted the movie to prove that greenscreen could be used by small studios to create big-CGI spectacles, and I respect the attempt, even if the effort was goofy.

ZipplyZane Based on Game Theory's previous content, as well as the channel's central idea that what they present is only a theory (and not in a scientific sense), I struggle to see how they would be a reeputable source for this type of information.

ZipplyZane If your argument is "go watch an entertainment channel that pulls shit straight from its ass" you can be safely ignored. The only people who should take Game Theory as any sort of serious authority are the ones who also believe tinfoil can stop government satellites from reading your thoughts.

I know it's been 6 years, but... I still feel like I haven't actually missed any videos in my sub feed this whole time, including firearms ones. I think they just get lost in the hundreds of videos there, especially if it's from a channel with typically boring content. I also never intentionally hit the notification button. If a video that is super interesting is missed in my sub feed, it almost always ends up in the recommended feed and I watch it anyway.

I love your channel. For me, it isn't about number of subscribers, or anything like that, it's the pure quality of the content. This is a thinkers channel.Thanks for being a great voice of reason out there, among a LOT of misinformation. And for portraying it in a relatable, non-excluding way for those just starting to see how compelling and intriguing the real world is, yet leaving plenty of very amusing observations and voiced frustrations (even the rare, but admirable quality of self-observed jokes/critisisms) for folk who really do "get it". Thanks again Captain D. Keep it up.
