The FOD requirement...boiled down, you need to make it difficult for things that can be dropped/broken to be introduced into the aircraft (switches/mech. linkages/electrical connections), that's why it is difficult to disassemble or access the eraser. Our paperwork requires the use of pencil or black pen. We use red ink for the identification of discrepancies using symbols in red ink for equipment and aircraft. When we pull it out of our sleeve, we twist clockwise, and put it away counterclockwise. It is great when wearing the Nomex gloves we use. This is probably the best pen for what it is designed for, I absolute love this pen and have 3-4 of them. Good review.

Have two of these. I use it all day at work. Definitely recommend them if you like to work in black /red/pencil throughout your day.

Thank you for the video. The pen has to be non-reflective in a cockpit, so is matt black. Reports are written in the colours provided, plus pencil. These are also mandated. The multipen is the manufacturer chosen solution for these requirements. That is the sum total of my aviation pen requirement knowledge.

Similar in looks to the Fisher Space Cap-O-Matic but with the added benefit of being a multi-pen. Would pair up nicely with a Traveler's notebook or pocket size notebook/memo pad. Nice to know it takes standard D1 refills; I would probably mod them out with gel ink. Thanks for the video!

Thanks! I ordered that refill in .5 and .7 and it was a vast improvement with smooth, quick (less drag) writing and far more consistent ink

Not long ago I got two of them with extra refills for 17 bucks. It has made it to my primary EDC.

Go-to pen for most Army people I know of. Definitely sturdier then a lot of multi-pen on the market. I would love to know some cheaper alternatives tho.

You are correct on the FOD definition (foreign object damage) I work and aviation and these pens are not FOD free. They are awesome pens don't get me wrong (I use one all the time not on the flight line) but there are way too many parts to this pen to fall off, go missing, and possibly get ingested into a turbofan engine.

Sal, i have two questions. First, what would you say is better for every day use, this pen or the unijet stream 3+1? Second, for this pen would you be able to switch out the pencil for a third color refill?

Only thing I don't like about it is even if you are super careful the lead in the pencil breaks all the time if there is a stick of lead in the tip of the pencil part

For anyone who gives a shit, I’m an aircraft mechanic in the AF and I’ve used this pen before. It’s a red and graphite because of the forms we use to document what’s happening to the jet, all documentation must be done in pencil and status symbols must be in red with few exceptions. I highly recommend just buying a red pen and a mechanical pencil. While this one is pretty cool and fancy they last about a week on the line and for $20 it’s not worth it.

where can i find the working surface that you are using here?

I use one in a forensic lab/field environment. Really like the pen, dislike the refills; (the pencil is a non-starter for any official records). Does anyone make better .5 ink refills for this pen?

As someone who works on aircraft, i can tell you that the eraser would have to go in order to comply with the FOD program. Its too small, and it comes out too easily.

My friends from the Air Force refer to this as a Level 7 pen.
