**Check out my other video "Casting and Cast Handstands Supplemental Drill" for a drill that didn't make it into this video**
• Casting and Cast Hands...
This video presents a few casting drills (in addition to the tried and true method of repetitive spotting) that, in my opinion, can help develop a straddle cast to handstand. These are some drills that I feel help the girl get the idea of pushing down and leaning over the bar, which many athletes either have a fear of doing or aren't strong enough to do, and end up setting their handstand short of vertical. Nothing in this video is "perfect," but this athlete is very talented and is still learning and working on this skill. I welcome your criticisms of my ideas or approach to teaching this skill, but I will delete any comments that I feel are negative and directed at the athlete herself.
And as always, I do not own the rights to this music, but am very thankful if the owner will allow me to continue using it to get some depth to the quality of the video.

You're a fantastic bars coach! I'm pretty proficient at coaching my level 6-7 girls on vault, beam, and floor, but I've never had been any good at coaching bars. Your drills have given me a lot of ideas. THank You!

Brilliant! I'm just learning cast to handstand myself and as I am an adult gymnast it is a bit difficult to be spotted for this. I've got to the cast to straddle part however kept falling over the bar I think due to not opening my shoulders and being quick enough to snap the legs into handstand. I can know see what I can work on thanks to your great video!

Thanks for the ideas! Those look like great drills to help with cast handstands. Btw i think the girl is excellent. Minor form breaks or not, she's great!

Great video, its a nice comprehensive list of exercises. The straddle cast to HS is definitely a skill where progressions are helpful in learning it quickly and well. Thanks for the this video definitely learned something

Although it is I suppose "easier" to do a cast to handstand with an arched back, I, as a coach, find it painful to imagine skipping conditioning and settling for improper technique rather than conditioning to a point where a gymnast is strong enough to complete the skill succesfully and with good technique. It would be incredibly difficult to "mask" the arch after teaching the cast to handstand that way. The gymnast's muscle memory would used to it already again may as well teach good technique.

Could she already do the cast to handstand or did she get it from doing the drills?
