He was a dirty fighter. He was hitting after the bell vs Carlos Zarate and even kept on punching after Zarate was down SEVERAL TIMES! He should've been disqualified in that match instead of given the win. The ref in that fight should've just watched the fight from home. What an embarrassment. When Sanchez finally KOed him it was so satisfying. So satisfying 🤌

I think the reasoning why there isn't as much Shoe Shining in modern boxing is most boxers are actually grappling one or both of the arms of the opponent, rather than the head as you see in the Shoe Shine examples you showed. Duran's grappling essentially became boxing clinching 101 from then on
@TheModernMartialArtist

Good points. Yeah there's a number of reasons, and now good fighters look to punish the clinch as their opponent tries to establish it in the first place too. But still, I wish it made a come back!

I think I see Inoue struggling way more than he expects to but taking it after a challenging start. But maybe AI will actually progress to the point where we could watch a close approximation of these fantasy matchups one day, like the bogus Ali vs Rocky "computer fight" but actually based on AI studying the footage. Would be really really cool.
@FinitoBoxing
@FinitoBoxing 2 ай бұрын
@@TheModernMartialArtist That’s a really cool concept. Yeah, these days computers are advanced enough to make a lot of things work. I feel like as you said it, Inoue would take 2-3 rounds to study Gomez. Kinda like Crawford letting Porter take some of the early rounds. And once Inoue gets his timing right he’ll pick apart Gomez and get him maybe in the 9th-11th round after a difficult time, with Gomez having scary moments where he almost take Inoue out. Boxing improves and techniques and conditioning are getting better nowadays. I think many fights would be different if boxing brings back 15 rounds over 12 rounds.
@nyobunknown6983
@nyobunknown6983 2 ай бұрын
I'll take Inoue by late KO. Gomez was a fighter with good boxing skills always coming forward while Inoue is far more versatile changing his style to suit the opponent while possessing power equal to Gomez. When a fighter could take Gomes' punches and impose their will on him he could be beaten. This is what Salvatore Sanchez and Azumah Nelson did to KO Gomez. A great fight to watch is the Sanchez vs Nelson fight where Nelson gave Sanchez the toughest fight of his career before being stopped in the 15th round.

@TheModernMartialArtist got dropped 40 seconds into the 1st, proceeded to beat the hell out of Sanchez from rounds 3 through 7, but was taking a lot of damage himself. His eyes were swollen shut by the 8th and that's what got him TKO'd.

Only those that are pro Sanchez are quick to make that call, but anyone that knows about the totality of Gomez's career realize that he was the real deal. How many Mexicans he brutalized like a dozen of them? He just lost to one and Sanchez was still relatively obscured before he beat Gomez.
