Gary has been a star in the Philippines for years, so is one of the people you see on singing competition judging panels all the time. After one of these competitions he became the mentor to Katrina Velarde, who was a member of a girl group, and she toured as one of his backup singers. You can see a Y.Tube video of them performing "Spain" together see "Gary V and Katrina Velarde - Spain @ The Town Hall ". In the intro he talks about being inspired by Al Jarreau who wrote the words for and scatted on Corea's song.

Gary has been singing this song for decades. He is a musician, a great artist and an excellent dancer as well.

Thank you! The instrumental jazz fusion, “Spain”, was Corea’s most recognized piece. But I wished you should also have recognized Al Jarreau. This is Al’s version with lyrics in his album “This Time”. The full title of this song is “Spain - I Can Recall”. Mr, Valenciano, I would believe, gave this tribute to Al Jarreau, who passed in 2017. The Bus, it seemed, released this late the same year or early the year after. Mr. V did an overwhelmingly, very close and very fine rendition to Al’s “Spain - I Can Recall”. 👍🏻🎶🤗

Good reaction! Thank you. Gary is amazing, but Al Jarreau gets the credit for the lyrics and scatting. Check out Jarreau performing "Take 5" in 1976. (Watch from the beginning; his intro is part of the performance.) Off-topic: please also react to Hua Chenyu "Child."

Gary V performed Al's version as a tribute. Still Gary added different nuances, beat box and expanded the scat solo.
