Maria you look absolutely gorgeous! However, I can not hold back to give my advice: When you wanna use an exfoliator, try to look for chemical exfoliants. The powder that you use is mechanical and basically scrubbing your skin away. It might feel gentle, but those little particles are way too abrasive on the skin. A chemical exfoliant works evenly over time to get all the dead skin cells off. A good start is Mandelic Acid (which I highly recommend) or Lactic Acid. Lactic Acid is already in your exfoliating powder, so you have a chemical AND mechanical exfoliation which is wayyyy to harsh for any skin. For the sake of your skin, please don't use both. Next thing are the masks. You say that they leave your skin red. It's not because they're working. It's because your skin is "pre-damaged" so to say by your exfoliator and those masks have a lot of perfume in them (hence the great smell) which is very irritating for your skin. The orange one even has some Glycolic Acid in it, so if you use it after your exfoliator (like you said) you're basically triple exfoliating your skin. That's too much abrasiveness, it leaves your skin very irritated and those micro injuries can cause inflammation. The redness does NOT mean that it's working, it means that you're irritating your skin which causes more blood flow which causes more redness. And irritation is contra productive for age defying. If you're feeling that a product is working immediately, be alarmed. You should never feel something working on your face. Except for pure chemical exfoliants, they can tingle the first few times. Also, you don't have to spend 140 bucks on a serum. There are great serums out there that do their job for less money. Not every expensive skincare item is worth its price. Most of the times you're paying for expensive water in a nice packaging to make it seem as if the price is justifiable. But, if it works for you and your skin doesn't react in a bad way keep on buying. Do whatever makes you happy :) My recommendation is to look for fragrance and alcohol free products as those are the most irritating ingredients. If you're using any kind of exfoliant, whether is chemical or mechanical, ALWAYS wear sunscreen. Even if it's cloudy, UV rays are coming through and your skin is more prone to sun damage when exfoliated. Skin cancer is not a joke. Especially your wonderful Californian sun should be a reason to protect yourself. For me, a good routine would be: Night: A good oil cleanse (as it's the most effective yet gentle), exfoliating (preferably chemical), serum (the main thing you wanna target, eg Anti-Aging, Acne etc.) and hydration to keep the moisture locked in your skin Morning: Very gentle cleanse, Vitamin C / Antioxidant (+ a hydrator if needed) and SPF I highly recommend Paula's Choice. Their products are fragrance free and very potent. They actually do their job. If you don't wanna spend too much money, The Ordinary or the Inkey List are good alternatives to try some things out first and see if it works for you. For SPF is recommend La Roche Posay ANTHELIOS series. I use the Shaka Fluid and find it to be the best under Make-Up. If you wanna use mineral filters be warned about harmful nano particles that can get through your skin inside your body. Mineral filters can also dry out your skin, as they build up on the surface. The following chemical filters are harmless, non-allergenic, do not interfere with your hormones and are photostable: Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Trianzine (Tinosorb S) Drometrizole Trisiloxane (Meroxyl XL) Terephtalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonier Acid (Mexoryl SX) Ethylhexyl Triazone (Uvinul T 150) Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (Avobenzone) Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus) Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone (Iscotrizinol) Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid (Enzulisol) Oh, and please don't be afraid if something is not "natural". Everything that exists on this planet is chemical. It's just a marketing strategy, because we think that if somethings natural it must be better. It's not. Especially essential oils which are often used in "natural" products are basically perfume, which again is irritating. The only thing worth looking out for is organic "natural" food, not skincare. That's just what I recommend after dealing with skincare products, brands and ingredients for over 10 years and coming from a chemist and biologist family. But you do you. It's your skin in the end. ♥️

Thank you for bringing some much needed sense and knowledge into discussion in a very respectful manner. I know Maria means her best, but spreading single-experience information (which is not fact-based) about something as delicate as the skin can end up being harmful to others. Also, skin care should be important because we want to take care of our health, not because our face, chest and hands are the first things that other people see of us...

@@winkie4life The powder she showed is a combination of acids (chemical) and rice, mud and oatmeal particles (mechanical). Even if it's a wash off product, the acids still work in combo with the grains so it's double exfoliating (triple with the mask afterwards).

Remember folks, always do your research on the ingredients. I like how Maria shares her routine steps; take all with a grain of salt. I’m not a dermatologist and neither is she. However, redness and tingling doesn’t mean it’s working. It simply may mean whatever is in the bottle is irritating the skin. A product shouldn’t make the skin irritated or red. And most importantly, good skin comes from inside out - what you put in your body, stress, hormones, etc. with a combo of a few good creams/masks may do the trick. But just masks, creams and exfoliation won’t be a one fits all answer for all face issues. My opinion. 💜🦋

100% agree. I use nothing but water on my face other than a very small amount of an inexpensive moisturizer in the colder months. I gave up all products on my troubled skin over a decade ago. Yep, I still get a pimple now and again but it was worse when using all the products. We age, we get wrinkles and spots and marks. They are all part of the natural aging process.

Hi Maria! :) I would be very careful using either of those masks after the exfoliator. They are all CHEMICAL exfoliators; one has lactic acid, one has glycolic acid, and the other is using fruit enzymes, which is probably why it tingles/burns so much, and also may be thinning your skin over the long term.. another reason why SPF is even more important. I highly recommend checking out "The Ordinary" - looking at all their products is a little overwhelming at first, but it's all super helpful information and all of their products are ridiculously affordable. They teach you which active ingredients can/should be used together. I've been using their products and have seen amazing results in terms of acne, texture, and fine lines.

Just a heads up - if your skin is getting really red that could be due to inflammation which can lead to hyper pigmentation. It is normal for your skin to get a little red from blood circulation but if it is showing signs of a reaction or inflammation type of behaviour be weary!! Xx
@444abbey
@444abbey 4 жыл бұрын
@Anna Smith when your skin experiences inflammation, it releases inflammatory cells which cause melanocytes (pigment cells) to produce more pigment to the skin. But it is very normal for your skin to get red after washing it or putting products on due to blood resurfacing, however if your skin feels irritated and much more red than usual it is most likely inflamed. Good to test products on your wrist before using them on your face to make sure you won't receive a reaction.
@nyk0l3tt3

It's the glycolic acid, and maybe the cinnamon. When your skin is inflamed (red) it thinks it's damaged and sends protection (melanin) which is the hyper pigmentation.

I have a degree in skincare and honestly your skin is beautiful and I think your doing a great job. I understand everyone wants to bombard you with advice, but no one should critique a routine unless they have given you a proper skin analysis, reviewed your allergies, etc. Everyone's skin is different. I've had clients from teens to elderly women, using a range of modalities and products both organic and non. If you find something that you love and it gives you results then enjoy it. If you don't want to splurge on the serum again but want help with the redness, simply placing a cold wet towel on your face for a few minutes can help. Or buy some derma globes which are super useful with calming skin down. I love you and appreciate you very much 🙏

Hi...what did you get a degree in, i'm really curious? Im a medical esthetician & where i am in FL i had to get my esthetician's license then transfer to another program to get the "medical" training, which FL technically doesn't have a separate license for, i just have a certificate. I went to USF to get my bachelors of science in psychology but that was right out of HS & decided to go into skincare later on in my late 20s. Im 35 now. I'd love to actually get a bachelors in the field but all i could come up with was nursing if I wanted more schooling. What did you get your bachelors in, it would help me on my hunt. Thanks! Edit- you didn't actually say bachelors, just degree, so sry if i misunderstood there. You might also mean esthetician, & if that's the case, I get it. Some of us should have 5 degrees by now, am i right. I spend more time keeping up with new studies, ingredients, products, techniques & equipment. Since Im a med. esthetician i keep up with botox, fillers, lasers, ipl, microcurrent, dermabrasion & the list goes on. Not 2 mention continuing education...sry, ranting, but it burns me there's no 4 yr degree with all some estheticians learn & do...that's y Im hoping u tell me about 1 😀

Hi Maria, i want to say first that i adore your voice and your attitude in this video❤ then i'll tell you my opinion: if you do a research, you'll see that the external layer of epidermic cells, which is a dead cells layer, once you exfoliate it it takes 14 days to grow up again, which means that the following layer that you are exfoliating are made of alive and good cells. It sensibilizes your sking so far, the fire red sensation does not mean it's workin. I'm studying these things so i'm not talking just to talk. Love you, and sorry for the errors but i'm not english💕

General reminder, too: fragrance should not be in skincare. If you can't avoid it then search for products that have as little fragrance as possible. Even if you do not see an immediate reaction to fragrance it is still having a long term effect. If something has a tingly and stinging effect, stop using it. The only exception that I have personally come across to that rule is AHA (and should only last a few seconds); after the first few uses of AHA that should stop happening.

I would be very careful and mindful about using products with fragrance on the face. I get that people enjoy the sensory experience, but it really doesn't belong in skincare at all. That includes artificial fragrance and essential oils, which are just natural fragrance. All fragrance can be sensitizing to the skin, and even if you're not actually allergic to it right now, you can develop a fragrance allergy at any time. It really is the most common irritants and allergen in skincare. Even worse, essential oils, particularly citrus oils, in high enough concentrations can cause photosensitivity when you're exposed to the sun. Be extremely diligent with sunscreen! Unfortunately, most "natural" brands seem to add the most essential oils to their skincare products.

It's pretty awesome, this isn't legal everywhere, never take it for granted. If Maria specifically asks people to stop giving advice, I'd respect that, but she hasn't. When you're a content creator, you come to expect unsolicited feedback. Also, I don't exactly expect her to read every single comment on her videos, as she's a working mom and doesn't really have the time. Looking beautiful as ever, Maria. Sunscreen is the most important anti-aging product there is. I like all mineral ones. The Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Face SPF50 has a great formula that dries down beautifully, it does have a light tint, so you can maybe skip foundation on a light makeup day. I also like a Korean product I recently found, Purito Comfy Water Sun Block. It's SPF50 and PA++++ and leaves no white cast even though it isn't tinted. If you're using the recommended amount of sunscreen, you go through quite a bit of it, so it helps that both of these are around $10. Lets you feel better about springing for some of the more expensive products elsewhere. LOL

Hello Maria!! First of all I LOVE your videos!! I've been a subbie of your other channel for about 6 YEARS and this one for a year! You are such a beautiful person inside & out. I have a few suggestions to add however. As a licensed esthetician (and massage therapist) and working in the spa industry for 10 years, I wanted to inform you that your regeme is flawless with 2 caveats. You should use the Eminence exfoliating powder mixed with a cleanser (which is a mechanical exfoliator) OR do the glycolic brightening peel (which is Alpha Hydroxy Acid Chemical exfoliator) Doing them both is VERY harsh on your skin. You are lucky to not have had a more adverse reaction other than the redness (which that alone should never happen btw) but this regeme could cause major issues with your skin down the road. I would suggest trying to do one or the other (and just cleanse using cream cleanser before the AHA peel) Also, after cleansing, then exfoliating in whatever ONE method you prefer, try to apply a hydrating mask. It could even just be pure aloe vera gel & use a brush (it's soooo soothing & you'll feel like you're at the spa) Leave on for 10 min & rinse off then continue with your normal routine using tiny bit of that serum you mentioned. I guarantee you'll see even BETTER results 😊 The concept is to remove dead cells of outer layer gently, and then enriching with a super hydrating mask to follow so your skin can "drink" it in. The serum sounds great, but serums are thin & help lock in that moisture the hydrating mask gives. Your face is immaculate already, but couldn't resist sharing more tips. And for a suggestion for SPF, try Coola products. Their line is AMAZING. Whew, I know that was a lot. I hope it helps you or anyone reading. I wish a very Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family🍁

Hi Maria!! I am in school to be an esthetician and I just wanted to reach out and help, the masks you are using have a mild chemical peel in them which is why your face is flushed afterwards, they are totally safe and great to use on skin, just be wary and don’t over use them, 1-2 a week is good! Mechanically exfoliating before using the mask is okay since the mask is not entirely a chemical peel. Enzyme and glycolic are mild peels, enzyme is more gentle so that is why you aren’t as flushed using it! If your skin is feeling irritated, just go for the mask or just the mechanical exfoliator! Your skin has been looking so beautiful and I wish you the best in your skincare routine!!❤️

Thank you so much, Maria! I sincerely love your haul videos! I think I’ve watched them all. Love them hurt as much as your ASMR videos and I find them just so relaxing, almost equally so. I really take your product recommendations seriously so thank you again for yet another amazing haul with great products! So far I’ve tried Pacifica and now just added two of your Andalou naturals masks to my collection - went and picked up both the Age Defying Berry mask and the Brightening Pumpkin mask and I’m so excited to try them both!!! Thank you so much for the wonderful recommendations, as always!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 love you Maria! ❤️❤️

I just discovered your videos a few months ago after some serious insomnia. You've helped me get to sleep more times than I can count. Thank you!! Found my way to this channel from your ASMR channel and you've inspired me to start a skin care regime. I've never been good about it but just entered my 50's so need to get to it. I'm lucky that I, too, avoid the sun (redhead!) and even better, I do not smoke!!! I've ignored a skin care routine because those 2 things have always been enough. But it's time to add a little more to my skincare. Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!

Hey Maria :) Make sure you have a good SPF to wear on your face during the day, especially since you are using lots of active ingredients! Mineral works well but it can have “flashback,” there are lots of good organic options but please try and find one you like! Spf is so important not only for anti-aging but for protecting your skin after treatments, the sun can cause dark spots!

I LOVE seeing you become more into the natural/nontoxic/organic/crunchy lifestyle 😁 I did the same thing as I became a mom too! It’s always a work in progress and I’m continually learning and making healthy changes for my family “know better do better!” We like a few brands of sunscreen, Badger Balm and Think Baby have seemed to both work when we need it (but honestly we don’t wear it very often 😅).

Australian Gold Botanical Mineral Sunscreen is my favorite because it is not greasy at all. It does tint your face a little lighter though, so it needs time to be worked in or worn under makeup. I am very fair skinned

My fav SPF brand is Avene or La Roche Posay. They make both mineral and chemical sunscreen formulations and it is very effective. I like that both brands make a sunscreen that is very fluid and I can use on my face without feeling really "greasy". I love Andalou masks as well. I love the Clarins hydrating mask and use that after exfolitation. It smells amazing.

Hi Maria! I've just watched this, and I have a couple of SPF recommendations for you if you're still looking out for some 😊 the vitamin E day lotion from the body shop is SPF 30, and the Skin Defence multi-protection essence from the body shop is SPF 50 if you want something higher (I have to as I'm a redhead haha)! The body shop uses really natural ingredients, and they're both very lightweight and don't clog my pores x

Hello, Maria! I'm leaving my first comment after following you for years and it feels exciting! I wanted to recommend an amazing natural SPF that I discovered thanks to Petit Vour. It's Suntegrity's Impeccable Skin. It offers a broad spectrum SPF 30 coverage. I'd say we have a very similar skin tone, and the Ivory version blended amazing with my complexion. Hope you can try it!
