i was a skinhead early '70s . things moved north slower back then . always a case of being outside of the "norm" that was probably one of the main reasons we took to ska & the then rude boy culture . us & the black boys didn't fit in society , so we made our own world . does anyone else have those times ? no not the '80s where change seem to happen for very little reason . just wore the "uniform" & hey presto an instant change of persona . my times no one lead "fashion" . working class youth were what they were . the cloths were what we could afford , no f**kin designer shite . stuff from the army stores . we just saw what was around us & that became what we wore . dr martens ? don't make me laugh ! harringtons , ben sherman shirt , they appeared when the middle class tried to become street wise . steel boots , a union collarless shirt or two my 1st pair of shrink to fit £3 , 7sh . you could get a good pair of brogues black oxfords or at a push loafers for around £3 .. this was pre vat the best of times . the main thing i do remember well is in 1970 i invented sex ! anybody else want to run thru the golden age .only seems like y/day . maybe was cos i've never grown out of it .

The skins, suedes, rude boys, mods, rasters and ska boys were amazing! I remember them in London when I was a kid! They wore drainpipe jeans, DMs or loafers, Crombie jackets or overcoats and Fred Perry T shirts. The music was always reggae, Ska, Two Tone and new wave U.K.

Was a rockabilly at the prime time for youth cult in the 80's, we fought each other 'cult', skinheads., punks, mods silly looking back as grew to love all the other types of music and sad to think there will never be that individuality again in youths. Everybody now looks hermogenized, no individuality, respect to skins and a great great anthem in skinhead moonstomp. Up the rebels.

Remember a group of skinheads giving us ( the soccer casuals) some hassle on Southend sea front in 84 calling us poofs and fairy boys. However no matter how smart a ten hole Doctor Martins looked they were no match for a pair of Gazelles and Sambas as we gave them a good slap and chased then off, That being said and done my full respect goes out to the skin scene , nice people and great music and fashion .

I was never a skinhead. I was a suedehead!. When I was a lad in late 60s very early 70s skinheads were smart (clothes wise) They dressed sharp and was part of their style to look as good as they could. In south London we all mingled with the Rastas and rude boys, we smoked their dope they took our speed and we would all dance to some amazing music. Yeah course all the old BlueBeat,Island,Studio 1 ska etc And at the same time all the motown and what was later to be called Northern Soul the black US servicemen brought over with them But suedeheads were smoother. Dressed alot sharper, the direction the soul followers of the Mods went. The only people we ever fought were at football games. And around London there was enough of that to keep you going if you wanted it. The trick was finding a baance.
