Well we had anyways. Now there's just chavs and that's nothing to be proud of. Personally, I feel the death of the last real, home grown British subculture was probably the Madchester scene which for the most part had fizzled out over thirty years ago. And if we're being honest, even it was nothing compared to the groups we had from the 50s to the 70s. Personally I blame the rise of tech.. the internet, constant connectivity etc. Back in the day scenes developed more regionally, more organically back in the past before internet.. there was only the odd magazine of TV programme to see what was happening around the country, never mind the world.. so there was opportunity for unique subcultures to flourish and grow in their own way. Now we just live in a huge, one single, global culture and to honest I think it sucks. Sure, we have gained some things, for one there's a wealth of knowledge out there now, you can find anything you want to know or buy online.. you didn't have to go 150 miles by train to get the clothes or boots you want, you can order them and have them here in the post the next day.. but on the other hand we have lost so much. Its good that reunions keep the past alive because its all we have.. a memory of a better time.

I wish more ska bands had this style. It's usually more punks at thier shows. I got to see English Beat few years back,just before covid shut the world off. It was great seeing rudies & skinheads, they just aren't common anymore.

Love to see the old school generation still dressing up and keeping the style alive. Fashion just for fashion means nothing, but some movements comes with certain fashions that we abandon when we grow to fit in. I love ska but I'm more into metal and try to do my part to keep my community's fashion alive. Things like this are not aprecciated until time passes.

Reminds me of the late 70's eary 80's at the youth disco's. At my high school there was a group of about 20 skins and the same mods and punks that walked round the school with their gear on, skins with the drainpipe turn up jeans, braces, punks with the coloured hair, there was 18 hole DM's and piercings in every part of the head and mods with the parkers with the targets on the back. Sometimes they'd have a row and as a first year at high school it was a real eye opener, that said most of the time everyone got on, there were fights everyday but I loved my school days and it was a great era for music, better than today's load a shite

SKA FASHION, MUSIC & DANCE [10:09] The energetic, stylish boy wearing yellow braces and bleached denim dances a modified dub-step shuffle that is hypnotic, entrancing and rhythmic. Ska is fast dance music that became known to the world in the late ‘50s. It’s known for combining Jamaican mento rhythms with American rhythm and blues. And, it uses jazzy instruments like trumpets, trombones, and saxophones to give the mento vibes. The guitar is also one of the main instruments of ska. The songs of this genre have frequent jumpy rhythms, and the lyrics are more often than not talking about local issues.

The rythem in reggae actually derives from Country folk & irish music brought to the Americas. Not many ppl no that! In fact most modern regular rhythm music also derives from folk: Coutry, Rock, r&b, blues, jazz, disco etc all derives from folk from northern Europe. 🎵 🎼
@RSuban1
@RSuban1 Ай бұрын
@wm5311 no true music historian or student would believe such nonsence. The intricate complex rhythms of jazz derive from Africa. No European society has any history of producing such complicated poly rhythms as the African continent. What you claim simply never happened. Even Elvis Presley admitted that he would sit in the back of black churches on a Sunday and study the rhythms of the black musicians and emulate them for his act. Sister Rosetta Sharpe a black woman, was the God Mother of the guitar and her style paved the way for other musicians black and white. So please don't lie and say reggae music, rnb, jazz derives from the rhythms of Ireland and Europe. That is ridiculous.

I can remember in my younger days executing various dance steps such as the skank , the mosh pit , the stage dive , the slam dance , and also being very adept at various moves such as head bopping and just getting into a worked up state complete with all kinds of horseplay , let me just include that in my day I was always known as one of the more rowdy and just generally unruly type characters at the majority of the concerts , bars , clubs , house parties and also just when music was being played in any medium up to and including just whistling and snapping my fingers ... of course my consumption of alcoholic beverages was at an all time high and I could afford the premiums . And also I was really good at just what many call or speak of as carousing ..

"... do you remember" Levi's jeans and sta-pressed trousers. Sheepskin coats, windcheaters and Harrington jackets. Ben Sherman and Brutus shirts, grandfather vests. Brogues and loafers. Tighten Up Volume... And so much more. I was an original skinhead of the late 1960's. It never leaves you.

@@cmgordon12345 Yes ur right, I probably wasn't listening then but i am now. Jerry Dammers invented 'two tone'. He was son of a CHURCH dean. 'Two tone = B&W. I believe over 97% of current Immigrants are from the 3 Judaic religious backgrounds i.e. Christian, Muslim & Jewish. Coincidence? Huh Church still has its agents working within all media inc music. Nearly every current chart song has religious connotations to them. I'm glad u Enjoy your Ska. Hope u enjoy all genres of music! Such a shame Terry Hall died. I remember well him calling the two tone lot a bunch of w*****rs 😂 🇮🇪

@@wm5311 I caught a later wave in the US in my youth. I've mostly associated the scene with messages of unity, and the obvious connection to repressed people and colonization, as a fuck you, to the colonizers. I can see what you are saying, but the reggae that this came from has solid Christian roots. A message to Rudy is some preechy shit 😊. I'm no Christian

I was into punk before I got into this music, so the skinhead term confused the hell out of me. Reading about Symarip and that type of skinhead was eye-opening.

I want all you skinheads to get up on your feet Put your braces together and your boots on your feet And give me some of that old moonstomping Get ready, we got three million miles to reach the moon So let's start getting happy now Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah Now, before we reach the moon, fellas We got to make sure that everthing is spic and span, alright? We got to make sure you, shine your boots, brush your teeth Because the man on the moon look different from man on the Earth That's what I say boys Now remember, I am your boss skinhead speaking, my name is Caleb Alright, and remember, I'm the boss You can see, look at my boot, or my feet, or whatever you want to call it And you can see I've got the biggest boots (that's not right) Now, when I say "sing", I want everyone to get in the groove and start singing Because we're on the moon Ready? One time, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah Now, I want all you fellas to gather around me, and we're gonna start stomping Ready? Here we go, one time
