This is a 15 gallon tank. It has four black skirt tetras and four white skirt tetras. I selected black skirt tetras with less dark black stripes to match white skirt tetras. These are good to keep in planted tanks because they don’t eat and destroy plants. They mainly will eat pallet food that I give. In this video, we can see they chase each other like each fish wants some privacy. If we observe carefully, they are chasing nearby fish without actually touching or biting. They just move in a flashing manner near other fish as though they are going to bite. They are schooling fish and like to be in groups.
In community tank where many different fish are kept, if any fish got fin nipped, these fish can be mistaken as fin nippers because they always will be chasing each other.
Fin nipping behavior is very rare in skirt tetras, but there are pet shops where they put too many fish in a small tank without giving food to avoid cleaning of tank till they sell, these fish can become fin nippers.
