A Skitarii Ranger of the Adeptus Mechanicus in the Warhammer 40k setting is a hunter of sentient creatures in the same way that tech-priests are hunters of knowledge -- the enemies of the Omnissiah in particular. Skitarii Rangers are the unstoppable cyborgs of the Skitarii Legions that do not rest until the bloody deed is done, for they are driven ever onward by the imperative to locate their foes and ensure their destruction.

Ok but imagine this: Hitman-like video game where you play as a Skitarii Ranger assassin, you start with relatively small contracts, a planetary governor short on taxes, an Astra Militarum commissar who is suspected of being involved with Chaos, then as you progress you get bigger and better targets, a Tau from the Ethereal Caste visiting a recently assimilated Imperial colony, a Chaos Space Marine leading a cult in the underbelly of a hive world, a bishop from the Ecclesiarchy stationed on Terra who has been stealing church funds for his own devices. Seems like it could make a fun as hell game.

You mean in game or in lore? If its in game none of them are stronger than the other, just made for different situatiuons. Vanguards are good at being shocktroopers, specially with the rad aura and anti-infantry 2+, and rangers are great if you place them in Deployment zone + protector imperative for getting the AP 1, and you basically can shoot anywhere with the 30 inch range.

Can't take skitarii seriously, they cannot out assassinate an eldar ranger, nor can they stand up in a head on attrition fight like an ork, nor can they swarm enemy positions in an overwhelming tide like the tyranids. Even guardsmen can out morale them (Cadia Stands!), so they're basically over glorified cannon fodder in the grimdark of 40k.
